- A well-made knife takes time, energy, and precision to make. All that considered, it’s no surprise that their prices can vary greatly. We’ve all heard of Japanese and American knife makers but in today’s video we meet Filipino Sean Alonzo (otherwise known as Balete Blades), who is making a name for himself in this industry.

Thanks again FEATR for featuring and promoting Filipino knife maker. Salute to all our talented kababayan.
I met this guy once during an Arnis class. Wow good to see the success he's achieved with his knives. Good job, Sean.
Ganda ng production grabe, thank you for featuring local craftsmanship such as this. Galing!
I’m a cook and I’m amazed this kind of knifes for sure I will buy one of his knife. I support my Filipino family.
Jaw-dropping artistry, passion and craftsmanship from a young person. Go, Sean, show the world what you are fully capable of!
The Chinese cleaver at the end of the video is a dream knife. She's a beauty!
You do realize all of the knifes had almost the same design? Only the type of knife's change's,so riddle me this what was so unique about this?
Been a knife critic since being a young model maker using xactos. Few impress me, and I use many different types of them a LOT! This was a breath of fresh air. More like a shot of oxygen. Stunning design and execution. A piece of art made to be used.
I can watch this for couple of times and not get tired. No narration. Genius! God bless all people who made this video. Thanks so much 🙏
The damascus blends with the design, this dude really knows whats he's doing. Kudos to you sir!
I have been eyeballing your knives for years and hope to purchase one of your knives one day! Very nice video and good to learn more about you besides just looking at your knives.
where can you find his fb page to make an order?
Such a fan of these knives. Will eventually get one. Happy to see his knives showcased here. ❤️
From the sheer amount of blades that we had during pre-colonial times, none of them exactly like each other. His unique knives kinda fit the theme.
Pretty disappointed they're not really forged considering the price. I'd have no issue spending this much for a knife. But it's really not a great skill to grind metal. His skill is in design which he succeeds with.
@@veganpotterthevegan Weren't they? I thought he forged them.
@@AngryKittens just little hammer marks for looks
@@veganpotterthevegan How do you know they are not forged? Have you bought one? I can see atleast 3 layers of metals in his knives. A steel core, copper layer, and damascus layer. I don't think you can produce this kind of layering without forge. I am not a blade smith but I used to watch "Forged in Steel", so I kind a have an idea how these layering are produced.
@@juandelacruz5247 He's buying blanks that way. It's pretty obvious he's just cutting these from stock and hammering a tiny bit for looks.
*I'm a metalsmith...
These are some of the most distinct designs I've seen in knives in a very long time. Chapeau!
Wow! What an amazing guy... you can tell every word that came out of his mouth are real, it's him, it's how he felt. So it's not surprising how beautiful the knives he had made (yes I looked up his FB account and found some pictures there). He's amazing, simply amazing... would be cool if I could get to meet him one day...
I’ve made over 120 custom knives. That fit the person I was making them for. Custom blades and custom etching. Your blades are wonderful.
So good to see you so intimately involved in your craft, Sean, and to see your labour of love captured in this video! Cheers!
This is my Dream Knife. Sean is such an artist
Those knives are beautiful, It's a dream to own one of those fine, fine knives.
WOW, the production is something undeniably so goooooood! Plus, the outro sound is fuc*n brilliant!
Yea the blades are unreal, so is your research and production. The quality of your vids are topnotch.
Way to go dude! Keep doing what you love if you can
Sir Sean I wanna have one, you are so talented! Thank you FEATR for featuring him. ❤️
What I cant believe is your production quality with the tools at your disposal. A well equipped shop, but still impressive considering the quality
This was so amazing to watch!! Great to discover and learn more about local artisans. Those knives are stunning and the attention, thought, and care put into their creation is amazing. Thank you for this episode!
Some of the best talents in the world are from the Philippines. These are some of the most exquisite knives I have ever seen! Great job!
Gunggong! Proud to be k na naman!
Haha ayan nanaman kase binibida ung pinas gunggong
It’s still sad what happened with the baseball tournament…
Without a doubt many talented people come from the Philippines, it’s a small nation with so many different groups & languages. It trains the mind, food place for competition but also communication so there are more minds to solve problems.
Also because language one of the biggest aspects that dictate how people think, problem solve, amd even impacts values.
It’s also a nation of so many islands, so many of the populations arrived via boats, which in turn formed DNA. As Maritime travelers needed: Fearlessness, skillful at problem solving, ability to tinker, mindset of independence.
Recently it was confirmed that DNA changed with experiences including memories/thought.
It’s a small place, unlike other island heavy nations. All throughout history it’s had influxes of various groups around the world.
There being so many cultures, languages and societies communication has been so vital & problem solving( creating ideas, concepts etc)
I’ve always found it fascinating that astrology ( for maritime traveling) was developed often in regions that weren’t maritime heavy. Specifically looking at Central&South America, Christian & Islamic nations and even central China. All through history, often without any form of communication or record keeping.
For Island nations I’ve tried speculating as to why not. If it’s due to being forced to coexist with nature more so, so time/energy was focused on that or if it was a factor like, things grow so fast and smaller populations would lessen the chances to have ideas/thoughts continued, or like the lottery if it just is chance to have someone born at the right time, inspired by the right things. ( Philippines continue to dramatically impact the globe with inventions, answers to problems like bamboo replacing plastics, particular plant life that can’t be found else where etc.)
Sorry a bit of a rant, I’m just throwing out random information to see if any sticks and you have any thoughts/corrections.
$2000 for that is cheap. It's a work of art. A must get for knife collectors.
yeah! it's a working piece of art...
Ok, you buy them for $999B if you have money like that.
In the ph. $2000 is a 3-4 months worth of salary.
@@pesd8575 in Australia, that is an obscene amount of money for a knife.
@@pesd8575 he deserved it he work smart
You know you have a true artisan here when he said..."I can rush a knife...but...I Don't Want To!!!...with a smirk...more power to your endeavor...and ty for the vid!!!
Wow! Amazing! Very inspiring to watch someone so dedicated to his craft.
This is functional art! Beautiful and useful at the same time! Would be hard to use coz of the artistry that went into it, but also sad if you just put it on display coz then it would lose its function… Great job Sean Alonzo and Featr!
Gratz bro. Expat here in Philippines.
I wish to follow you and just become a amateur knife maker in the next five years.
Knives are life!
Yung uniqueness talaga for every knife. Papatok talaga to doon sa enthusiasts at sa mga chef pati rin sa yayamaning collectors. Kahit ordinaryong tao pag nakita to pag-iipunan talaga dahil napakaganda ng quality.
Holy 🐄 Cow! There IS one artisanal knife maker IN the country 🤯🤯
I mean there are Filipinos that can play with the big leagues of the world when it comes to their craft but watching other videos around these parts have shown me this things are unique and crazy expensive too not to mention you need to go to Japan or something.
I'm just fascinated that there's an artisanal knife maker in the country.
👍🏼👍🏼 to Sean!
Wow those knives are beautiful. Love the copper wave pattern in the knife.
Stunning!!! Thank you for sharing!
This guy can be a demon slayer blacksmith 👏👏. Beautiful knives.
Bruh. No ones gonna talk about the cinematography of this video? The shots are amazing! Good job!
This man is a true artist!
I really like FEATR. because they did not reveal the process on how do it. And I LOVE IT they really secure the originality of the artisan. BRILLIANT ! ❤️❤️❤️
Very inspiring featuring Filipinos on different industries. Hope to see an episode about Software Engineers.
gorgeous art!
That is definitely, definitely a quality knife! Good job!
A good work of art
So cool. I'm interested in one of your handmade knives.
It's freaking awesome
Absolutely beautiful , well done mate that wouldn't be used it would be a collector peice.. 👍
FEATR! Thanks for this!
Best I have seen.
Those are Art !
I like using different kinds of knives when I cook. This is crazy amazing! Makes me proud of him as a Filipino. How can I order one?
Is a link below
as usual. great vid. thanks
Coloring of this vid is super nice good job to the prod and editing team also
Damn! That's sick! 🔥
Now i have someone to follow. Keep up the good work
Cool knives. Finally, a Pinoy who values quality of products. Pinoys usually go for what is cheap and affordable these days that our products tend to be low-end. In my opinion this guy has a good mindset of making quality knives even if it cost more. Don't get me wrong but I like products to be cheap and affordable but not to the cost of losing quality.
Best presentation to promote the filipino knives. God blessings upon you
Respect , absolute respect 💥
What an amazing aesthetic he's an incredibly talented artist
Wohooo this will reach international audiences more and more
Beautiful knives!!!
Wow.
Very cool, bro.
Keep it up.
amazing commitment he has, I always buy the best I can find, I am going to start off with 2.
quality craftmanship is hard to find, I found it right here.
Wow! beutiful knives, and the design are stunning.
What an amazing art
Very beautiful knives.
Baaaai!!!! PROUD ILIGANON HERE BAI!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! It Gives me goosebumps when u said you were from iligan!! Latnanay kini!!!! Proud iliganon!!! ♥️🤘🇵🇭
Excellent content, and cinematography. It reminds me of "Great Big Story".
Oh man what a talent galing hands down I love the art of the knife.
This is amazing.
Your definitely Japanese Filipino.... It's in your Blood to have this knife talent. Great looking knives! I want one and will get it ✌🏼 keep it going
Wow! Taga Iligan! Congrats and more power!
Seeing his $3500 prices for a custom chef knife --that will likely never touch food-- makes $500 hand-forged Japanese knives look like a steal. I would like to support a fellow Filipino, but this guy is already catering to the wealthy. At his selling price point and the cost of living in the Philippines, this kid lives like a king
A true master of his class.
Holy F…. They are extremely expensive!! I am not a chef but I do love cooking. What sean is making is a dream knife for a chef.
Masterpiece
When I have my own place I will invest in these knives... coz products like these are a lifetime type thing If you look after them definitely an investment I love anything that's well made and good quality... and I want to support more entrepreneurs and talents from the Philippines 🇵🇭 🔪
Blades are works of art . I know a bunch of dudes will pay top dollar for these blades . Kudos from Napa California
Very impressive young man! Knowledgeable…. Modest…. Skillful …. eloquent speaker, and seem like a very ethical craftsman. Wish you success….! USA, 3/2022.
Beautifully Made😍 🇵🇭

You are a genius, your work is outstanding. Make sure your renumeration is that as well.
Hey Sean.. big salute to you bai.. kana bitawng maka hilak ka sa pagka well made! Haaaiz.. Sean.. keep it up bai. Am a fan of blades.. your work belongs to great international knife maker. Nakaka proud🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
He CAN rush the knives but he just couldn't. A true artist!
Really good design. I hope to own one of this functional piece of art someday.
Very well done 👍😊👍
Amazing knife.
That's a Filipino for you .. what a nice unique knife blades, an art of mind .. i like the name Balete Blades I suggest you use some balete curve roots as a handle ..
Woah! 6 minutes and 40 seconds is soooo bitin... Kinda want more... 🙂 It's a great episode team FEATR!
OK, I love this guy.
Ui si lodi!!! 🤩🤩
Very detailed
You make that beautiful knife. You will become famous one day. Hope you can join competitions like forge in fire and became a champion.
Followed balete blades after erwan unveiled his in one of the vids. I could not not notice it.
WOW!
if i have this kind of knives on collection... i am hesitate of using this work of art, instead i will mount it on my wall and appreciate that work for my eyes only
Beautiful Damascus blades. I would end up cutting stuff just so that I could keep on using your knives. I am partial to Santoku knives for the practical design and lack of the redundant pointy bit in most knives.
Jag ,Singapore
Its so nice wow
My job is to use a knife more than 10 hours a day. I think your products are wonderful and I am very interested in them. Are they available in the UK?
World class knives 👌👌👍🏾👍🏾
That copper damascus looks really good
proud iliganon... well done bai👌👌
Ang Galing!
