i want to replace my epic evo with a pivot mach 4 sl or a spark rc but i can’t decide . on my trails i have to do a lot of climbing and a lots of ups and downs, no real long descents. thanks and keep up with the good work
I have owned some fantastic bikes including, but not limited to, several Ripley models, Epic Evo, Spur, SB100, SB115, and I recently purchased a Mach 4SL and all I can say is that it's a fantastic bike. It has the efficiency of the Ripley, yet is plusher and more progressive, making it even better for most trails. It's nearly as light as the excellent Epic Evo, but better looking and pedals better. It is more lively, responsive and fun than the SB120 by far. It seems to me like what the SB115 should have evolved to. The color ways on the bike aren't my favorite, but everything else is. Pivot Cycles nailed it on this one and it may become my favorite down country/XC/light trail bike!
Great review as usual, Wil. Interesting comparison with the trail 429, does the extra weight of the burlier components on the 429 equal much greater capability than the Mach 4 sl? Or would you prefer the pedalling performance and climbing superiority of the Mach 4 sl over the 429. Did you transfer the personalised sticker with the Aussie flag over to your personal bike?
Finally a weight competitive effort from the Pivot boys. What kept me away from the previous version was that if I'm going to be dropping big bucks on all the high zoot components then I don't want to be looking at my bike as it sits on its throne in my bicycle room and have that niggle in the back of my head that it's always going to be 400g heavier than the other market options because of the frame. What I also really like is how expensive it is, that way when I ride away from all my friends I can tell them that they just weren't rich enough to catch me.
I'd love getting a lightweight bike like this, in the hands of a very skilled rider, could this replace a trail bike with slightly more travel and aggressive geometry ? Currently riding a trance X 29, but since I'm more fitness-driven and only hit gnarly terrain on occasions, I am considering a trail 429 or a Mach 4 SL
Great idea! We've requested a Mach 4 SL from the Aussie distributor to follow up with a proper long-term review on home trails so that we can compare it to the Cervelo ZFS-5 and all the other XC bikes in our current group test: flowmountainbike.com/tests/best-xc-bikes-cross-country/ Stay tuned! You can certainly race it, though it'd depend on your priorities and what sort of terrain and events you'd be competing in. The World Cup version changes to a skinnier 32mm fork with 100mm of travel, and it uses a shorter stroke Float SL shock to reduce the rear travel. There are some other changes, like the dropper post and tyres, between the World Cup and the standard builds. Quite a bit more info here: flowmountainbike.com/tests/2023-pivot-mach-4-sl-review/ [Wil]
My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
It’s £12,469 !!! What the actual fuck is this world coming to ?? I just bought an Orbea Rise M10 £3900 !! So ONE PIVOT = 4 Orbea , seriously Pivot get lost ! I’ll never buy one of your bikes absolutely disgraceful prices, we’re mountain bikers not Doctors! Keep your bike !
Very expensive not to have a lifetime warranty or lifetime bearings like the Santa Cruz, or even other brands that give you lifetime warranty. I’m just saying.
Great review.. The price point becomes irrelevant when you ride such a quality bike. The ride characteristics make you a better rider. Once your in the market the great price you get for your secondhand pivot makes changeover to new bike price is nearly the same.
Yeah they have to pay those college kids for finally getting a job so they don't feel worthless like the others that picked the wrong subjects to study....lol.
Great review! Thank you for the quality work you do in your videos.
I am running a LES Pivot now. looking forward to getting 4
I got mine in 2020, love it!
Always provide amazing reviews keep it up!
Thanks mate, appreciate your support! [Wil]

Any comparison to the Epic Evo? Besides being slightly lighter and having two bottles the Mach 4 seems to blow the epic Evo out of the water.
I’d like to hear as well. I had the 2020 Mach4SL and I currently have the Epic Evo.
Amazing bike. Cheaper versions will come out

I’d like to see this compared to the new SuperCaliber
Could you please do a comparison with the Mach24 SL vs the Cervelo ZFS-5 . Thanks

10.5k start price eeik
With SLX!
It starts at 6.7k with SLX/XT
Any chance of an update video in the near future?
I would love to, but we've had no luck trying to source a Mach 4 SL locally 🤷

My favorite color is ham
I don´t know why they are making world cup version with less travel. When the world cup tracks are the most gnarly terrain this bike will ever see.
Yes but World Cup is also the best riders this bike will encounter, so it is to gives retirees the feeling they are in world cup😂
PivotCycles OTE (World Tour Team) are running the longer travel version. At least they did a review of the longer travel setup
Is this a race bike tho? Not the World Cup version

How Much..!!!! Bikes are WAY too expensive these days,I mean, you could buy a supersports Motorbike for that money...!!
I got a really solid full suspension enduro bike for 3.5k USD. Pivot’s are nice but super expensive.
Don't worry... there will always be options for everybody.

I’m so tired of seeing/hearing this comment… don’t buy it 🤢 🤮
@@johnwilkes9142 No bike is worth that $. It just isn't. $7K for the lowest end spec'd bike is a joke.
design the new bike wery good
I don't like the Maxxis tyre

What happens if you still have a Titus Racer X?...lol
Too pricey.
Overpriced just like Specialized
Keeps the poors away.
Agree to disagree… completely different ethos and people 🍻

@@trentvlak Keeps the more money than brains crowd happy, but still slow.
Lost me at XC… ✌️
