    You did an awesome job! I like all the extra/custom stuff you did to the cabinet as well. Adding those white LEDs to back light the marquee was ingenious.

    for sharp edges on stencils and stripes, a light coat of clear can seal the edges.

    There are a few varieties of painter's tape that also specifically do a bit more than normal to help fight paint creeping under the edges; worth adding to your DIY kit for the future. They usually brag about this on the packaging, so easy to find at Home Depot or wherever.

    That kit is amazing! The cabinet just screams for that faux woodgrain peel and stick laminate that I saw on so many conversion games back in the golden age of video arcades in the early 1980's!

    A layer of primer first helps the paint from spreading under the tape. Also try Frog brand tape. Works best for creating smooth lines. Also rolling paint gives you better control over it to prevent jagged lines.

    Clear spray paint will stop the color bleeding on your next project. This is wonderfully built. All of the videos I've seen so far have sort of glossed over the case build, while having their wire harnesses magically appear built.

    The overlay for the CP is actually the overlay from the old Sega Aero CIty arcade cab. Nice vid! I like how the OG jamma standard is followed here using the 3 button standard instead of opting for the 6 button layout which usually requires a kick harness. Keep up the vids, I enjoy them!

    I built a MAME cabinet from the ground-up cutting MDF, t-molding, etc. DON'T SPRAY PAINT!!!! You can use a sponge brush for this size but prime it first, then put a layer of black paint on, let it dry. Put another on... then sand it down with fine grit sand paper. Paint another two layers, sand. Wet sponge off the rest and it's perfect.

    Removing the painters tape while the paint is wet will give a better result. You'll prevent paint crawl and potential paint peeling when removing the tape.

    this gave me an idea, why not build a cabinet that would fit a laptop and just slide it in from the back but it would have to be made sleek and for the controller you can buy a usb stick and build it in the cabinet, so all you would have to do is plug in the usb before sliding it in. then u would have to find some sort of emulator and even be able to play online! never seen an online arcade cabinet :D

    my only question is how did u regulate how much power was going to the pie and how much was going to the screen and audio amp? im trying to do the same type of idea but with a rechargeable 12v battery. It looks like your jsut plugging them into power and letting them differ the voltage on there own?

    • @ThisDoesNotCompute
      @ThisDoesNotCompute  6 лет назад +1

      They all run off of 5 volts, so as long as the power supply can deliver sufficient current (amps), then everything works great. If you use 12 volt power (either from a battery or AC adapter), then you need a step-down converter to turn the 12V into 5V for the RPi.

    What LEDs did you use for the marquee? Where are they from?

    • @ThisDoesNotCompute
      @ThisDoesNotCompute  8 лет назад

      They're generic white LEDs. They have these little PCBs with a resistor built in so they can operate off of 5V (the LEDs themselves normally use 3.3V). I can't remember where I got them unfortunately, I've had them in my parts bin for years.
