Ebike Riding at Peninsula State Park

- Thanks to Magicycle for providing the two Jaguarundi's for our trip!
We rode the Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek. (Door County), Wisconsin and really enjoyed it. The water flies were hatching when we were there and really made it difficult at times. We stayed "under 15 mph" as regulated. While some websites said, "No Ebikes", almost everyone we saw there were on either their own ebikes or rented ebikes! We rode around 27 miles!
Check out my new "blog" website that has a list of everything in this description (and more) for my recommendations of accessories and products. Affiliate links help my channel. Thanks!

Like looking at trees and lakes rather than houses and cars. Nice ride.
This is my favorite Russ is Right video so far this year. I love the scenery. Of course I like the slower rides so I can see stuff, so I might be a bit bias.
I completely agree on the scenery. This is my favorite too. Very nice vicarious ride😀
Like the area you’re riding through, around here the streets are dangerous cause nobody pays attention that much. Out riding earlier to pick up some Copenhagen snuff, and was asked by two different guys about my bike. The price of it, where I got it and made them both watch this video. Ah, the day of my workless life………PRICELESS.
I like the ride in the woods and feeling close to mother nature. Great video.
Continue with the nature rides, most seniors buy fat tires to get off the streets . your skills have improved enough for you to ride rail trails and some natural trails . this shows the bikes are truly made for this type of riding .
In Europe we occasionally ride on dirt trails with quite narrow tires. Have not been a problem for us. Most of the places we ride are paved in Europe.
Have ridden a lot on gravel near our house with 2 inch tires. It is hard when it is loose (freshly bladed). But very doable.
We live in South Dakota and a lot of the roads are gravel.
Until 1 year ago our house was on one of the gravel roads. Luckily a short distance to a paved road. Paved road is much better on your teeth.
Another great Door County Video Russ! There is a really great outdoor play house there in the state park too. If you are ever there during the season you should take in a play. Also we have been seeing more and more e-bikes in that area, especially around the state park. We will be there in late June through the week of the 4th of July. It can get crowded but the holiday is such a fun time to be there. Each little town has a fireworks show and a parade. It’s a blast!
I really enjoyed this ride such a beautiful park , and the bikes looked like they had no trouble handling the trail
Thanks for sharing
nice ride Russ and Mrs.
right. You can do these kind of rides any time. My kind!!!
Hi Russ, another fun/good video to watch. On Mothers' Day my son and I went out riding, I rode for 39 km and I still had 2/5 battery bars left only using the thumb throttle. It was so hot with temps in the 80's I got so sun burnt coz I was wearing a tank top shirt. My arms/ back and neck got super sun burnt with a nasty heat rash on my arms. I got a cream from the pharmacist but wow is the rash ever so itchy, sure looking forward till it's gone lol :)
I still find it weird that I get more range if I thumb throttle and ride 20 km/hr ave, it may not be fast, but I get about 13.5 km range.
Looks like a nice area to ride. Lots of wilderness plus the water
I like to brake my ride into road and trail rides. Never get board that way.
The 360 looks to be great for adding effects, but prefer the GoPro footage by far. Keep them coming and thanks for doing so, Dan
Occasionally a trail like this is fun and interesting. Since I have ridden a lot on gravel it does not scare me. We have ridden with others who are very uncomfortable on gravel trails.
One thing I can say is make sure you are not going too slow that is when you often fall. That does not mean go 30 miles an hour on a gravel road. Just don’t go so slow that you fall.
When you are on gravel or dirt, ride strong you will be fine.
Go, Go Russ & Wife!! Love seeing you folks out riding on the real bike paths!! Don't find any car traffic here!! Hope you enjoy it!! Yeah, big difference hitting rocks or roots between 2" and 4" bike tires! Really a beautiful park ride!! Enjoy those Big Lake front rides too! Hope to see some coming up this season!!
Love the trail riding and enjoyed your ride today
Nice ride Russ. Mrs. Right amazes me. She looks like she has done this forever.
I have similar trails just outside my door. A couple of weeks ago, I was riding along and my front tire kicked up a little stick which went through the spokes and jammed with the forks. I was down before I could blink. Fortunately I was going slow and the ground was forgiving.
I had sticks going into the spokes as well during our trip. Has to stop once to remove one that was clicking every time I pedaled.
That is a beautiful state park
Great to see that you are in Wisconsin, close to my neck of the woods, a bit south of Green Bay. So glad that the weather held out for you two. Great video as always!
Thanks!
Since I do not have any trails nearby I enjoy riding around our lake community and then the rural backroads behind my house. There is a rail trail about 45 minutes away that I go to sometimes. Take my folding bike. But I have to plan that day.
Fabulous!
It looked like a wonderful ride
Looks like the Possum Walk trail. Beautiful ride. Looks like a great place to find beavers
😊
Wait, Russ non asphalt trail = Danger! The Des Plaines River Trail in Lake County and many of the limestone trails in our area are much wider, smoother and usually dryer than that trail. Definitely smoother.
Don't limit yourself to just paved trails.
Nice video.
I think there are basically no ebike rules, regardless of what are technically the rules. If they are even there, it’s hard to know. If you don’t go crazy, nothing will happen, anyway. I ride an EUC which can be illegally operated (it’ll go 40 mph, over 25 is illegal), but I rarely do, and because I keep it respectful, police don’t care and people mostly just want to chat about it. I’ve had precisely one person raise any fuss, and he’s a legitimately crazy person who is off the streets again, so I don’t have to worry about him.
Nice seeing you on trails. They’ve kept some here even in tight development, and it’s nice to pretend like you’re in the middle of nowhere, even if there are tens of thousands of houses 500 feet over. I like the gravel/dirt sections, keeps it interesting and road bike free.
😂😂❤❤❤ outstanding job russ glad to see your sister out riding with you good company and tell her that she is doing a great job out there riding on the ebike she's getting hang of it 😊😊😊😊outstanding video keep up the great work you and your sister two thumps up .take care stay safe down there amen here from Alaska. 😊😊
Mrs Right is my wife. 😊
Very nice ride will try to find a gravel trail nearby.
We ride pretty long distances on loose gravel or grassy paths. Love the 4" wide tires on our Ocelot Pros on those trails. One thing I hate about the gravel trails is that when we get home the bikes are absolutely filthy. Still figuring out the best way to clean them, especially the chain and derailers.
You can use dish soap and water with a light cloth. This is what I've been using ever since I bought my E Bike. I wash my bike every few days to keep it looking like new :)
I use a chain cleaner for the chain. I run it the first time through with a bio-safe degreaser, then run it a second time with hot water and Dawn detergent. For the bike, I use warm water & car wash soap and I have a set of soft car wash brushes that help me get into the nooks and crannies of the bike frame, wheels, spokes, etc. I have a compressor and I use a blow gun to blow off the water, especially in the drivetrain and chain.
You don't have to degrease the chain for every ride obviously. Just when it gets really dirty/grungy. I'd say I only average once per month on my everyday bike, less often on my part-time bikes.
@@Joerides7 Exactly, and you can buy chain cleaner grease spray which also lubricates the chain and cleans it.
I'm always learning and Russ is Right provides insight into our world and a great opportunity for that learning. In just the first minute and a half of this video, I learned when dirt gets wet it is muddy and slippery. Amazingly, just a few seconds later I learned we need to cross the road to get to the other side. Wow... just wow. I may have to take a break to absorbed these gems before continuing my learning experience.
Lots of life lessons learned by watching. 🤣🤣
Great ride Russ! Love the change in scenery. Looks like the two of you had a nice little getaway.
4 inch fat has poor cornering control but great traction on rough terrain and sandy sections.
Russ, did you do the 10 mile loop around Penninsula Park? Did you see the lighthouse? Very pretty views of Lake Michigan.
Yes. We saw the lighthouse. I took a photo of it but forgot to put it in the video!
Tires don’t have to be wide to ride gravel. My Trek gravel bike has 38c tires which are about 1.5 inches wide. That’s typical of a gravel bike tire.
I was thinking more about the mud. :)
@@RussIsRight Mud usually isn’t a problem for a gravel tire. As someone said earlier, speed is important when going through mud. Don’t go too slow or you will fall.
Thanks for the great content. I love your channel. I have a dumb question: if you ride somewhere restricted to a certain class, do authorities check the computer of the bike to see if it's unlocked to a higher class (if you are asked to pull over), or is it enough to just obey the speed restrictions? Also, do you think an Ocelot Pro with its 20" wheels is okay for light off road use? Thanks!
Never been stopped by the police, so I don't know... but I don't think they know enough about where to look on the display screen to check the speed on the menu system. Besides, so many different bikes with different ways to unlock the speed on the various menus... how could they keep up with that? And yes, the Ocelot can do light off road riding no problem.
@@RussIsRight thanks so much for the reply!
Are there any dirt trails like this in the Schaumburg area ?
Don't know... probably. I usually just go to Busse Woods, but it's not dirt trails in there.
@@RussIsRight Thank you for the info. I've been wanting to ride Busse woods. one question about Busse. is it a loop?
@@aleksmikeincolor487 Yes it is.
Sorry if I missed it, what is the range on the batteries?
Well, for me, I can get 29 miles on level ground with pedaling and throttling. But Mrs. Right would do a lot better since she pedals all the time.
@@RussIsRight my wife is the same way. Always showing me up. Lol. Enjoy your ride and keep the videos coming.
I haven’t really considered a folding bike. Today I might have changed my mind. I’m playing bingo. It’s too cold to ride here before but I would like to ride home after. It would be nice to throw it in the car and take it with. I have a rack but I just use that to take them to visit the kids. That bike looks nice. How many e-bikes is too many to have?
Even folded, the bikes are rather heavy and awkward to move on your own. But put in the 55 gallon container, it makes it a lot easier. I would still recommend two people to lift it though.
@@RussIsRight have you tried the adjust handlebar stem accessory?
Yes, I have it on several bikes to adjust som distance to the reach but also to raise the height easily.
@@RussIsRight I was wondering if it raised the handlebars or pulled them closer or both. Sounds like both. Just what I think I need on my ocelot pro. Thanks
It tends to move the handlebar further away if the angle is too low. If the angle is more, it makes the handlebar closer while raising the height.
Is it just me, but you have barely said anything about the Jaguarundi? The third video could be about any folding ebike. So, do you dislike the Jaguarundi and you are trying to be discrete?
I have reviewed the Jaguarundi in the past. This is just a ride.
