True. Laxman is one person who's been irreplaceable. 85-4 and in walks Laxman to stitch a 300+ partnership with Dravid to set up India for a famous victory at Adelaide test in 2003-04 BGT. And countless such innings!

Surprisingly, watching the 'A' series Devdutt Padikkal has turned out to be a pretty competent test batter, someone who can occupy the crease and he was doing great in the Duleep trophy too.
the pitches here are definitely suited to his game. Comfortable off the backfoot, drives well and pounces on anything short and wide. He will hopefully have his chances soon!

I am a big fan of Cheteshwar Pujara. He scored 19 centuries in test cricket. I will say that Indian cricket board spoiled Pujara's cricket career. I know about him. He is a good batter. His batting style is similar to Rahul Dravid Sir. I want Cheteshwar Pujara to come back to India Squad. He is currently playing for Saurashtra. But our selectors are not selecting him. My opinion is Rahane and Pujara should come back to the India team. I can't understand our selectors. I like Ajinkya Rahane, too. I will say that still, India should get better batters very soon.

Consider this, you trail by 300 with 2 wickets down. U play a whole session getting 50 runs and another session 70. Now lost only 1 more wicket, but still almost 200 behind with half your batting gone. Can easily loose from there. So much pressure on batting team in last session they are bound to loose wickets. If some attacking batsman even though in just 2 sessions gets a 100, they have knocked off more than half of the trail with still 7 wickets ramaining and less than 100 to get. The game has changed and confidence is key in batting. Now everyone even the tail will wag. And post a lead or win the match depending on which innings it is. In first case you are still losing or draw at best.
Get a young replacement. Respect Pujara.. This can be his last series before announcing retirement from international games. He deserves it. One test he deserves as both RoKo were given lot of chances.

Actually I think that bringing Pujara and Rahane will do more damage than good for the Test side, Both were great in the both of the BGT series in 2018/19 and 2020/21 and contributed in the victories but they are now nothing but players of the past. Selectors should instead go for players from the domestic circuit who can replace their roles and also the coaches must work on the spin playing ability of the players.
The problem is in the current Indian team every player playing attacking cricket which is forcing someone like virat to take up pujara’s role. Virat gets runs only if he plays like how virat normally plays.
