FYI….I just installed the 83905 on my new mini-split. The instructions specifically show the two black leads getting connected to the LOAD side of the disconnect and not the LINE side. Other you tubers have also connected the device to the LINE side but I decided to follow the instructions to the letter so that the warranty won’t be voided if I have a problem. Based on what I read about surge protectors, I don’t believe it matters. Mine worked fine connected to the LOAD as instructed but yours also works fine connected to the LINE. I agree with you and feel the extra cost is worth it to protect your equipment. Thanks for sharing.

Nice product. I'll mention these. We had a power surge last winter that had us replacing boards for about a month straight. I bet a lot of customers would like to avoid that situation again.

Intermatic AG3000 also a good surge protector, plus it has a prettier green light which customers like.LOL.

The MARS 'equivalent' to the AG3000 uses a green LED for 'Protection On' and a red LED for 'Protection off'.

Looks like the Mars is wired in parallel. In theory, if I recall correctly, voltage does not change across devices in parallel circuits.
As I understand it, MOV-based surge protectors bleed errant voltages to ground.
How does this product protect other devices which are essentially connected to the same errant voltages (via parallel)... and without a connection to ground (only hot and neutral connections)?

Thanks for the video...quick Q, i was gonna use a dual strip terminal to link the wires as the installer of the furnace already spliced ince with a winged cap. Will this handle the load?

Thanks for the fast reply. Please clarify... You are saying that if I install this (Mars 83904 OR 83905) INSTEAD OF the dedicated ECM specific surge protector, I will protect the ecm motor the in the same manner as a dedicated surge for the motor AND get the additional bonus of protecting the whole furnace... correct? I greatly appreciate your fast replies.

does it matter if the surge protector is 10 feet away where my power switch is located for the furnace instead of right at the furnace

Never had a surge kill anything yet (knock on wood) but a neighbor had a tree fall across her line & she lost the range, big screen tv, microwave, etc. So I know it can happen.

I would feel a lot better if you put a Zip Tie on the wires in the Air Handler or Furnace. But good job.

Can they be double tapped in the disconnect? Or do they need to be pigged tailed??

I installed a surge protector for my entire home. It's basically a double breaker. Why get one for just an appliance?

Why are some of these 83904's equipped with a neutral wire while others are equipped with a green equipment ground wire?

If you have an ECM motor running inside that furnace it will be completely protected by this surge protector after installation... Correct? I was looking at installing a dedicated ECM motor surge protector and saw this video. Is there any benefit to adding an ECM motor specific surge protector instead of (or in addition to) this. If I put in this device AND an ECM specific surge protector (like the Zebra VZPro) would that be overkill? Wasted money? Your fast response would be greatly appreciated.

Jo Tu I would just install this surge protector to cover the whole furnace thanks for watching

My furnace is on a 15 amp circuit breaker. Is this ok for a mars 83904 protector?

I'll put my foot in my mouth and loose the chance myself... MARS should make a 120V/240V combo surge and brownout protector for coolers and fridges.
I've seen ones with relay to break 24v to condenser, but not everything has 24v contactors and no space to add all the stuff to work, too costly/large scale to modify building wiring :)

      Stand by.

lol, something that easily wires inside the limited space or second choice plugs inline on the line cord :|
mid-day call due to brownout, doesn't happen here often, but they were nervous over the nine individual cooler/freezer/sandwich carts not starting due to low voltage and then they sat there cooking themselves because nobody knew to unplug or turn off breakers.
it would cost over $12K to modify the building wiring with simple protection circuit or more for full backup generator. so I see a market for such devices, but tech will have to be good at sales

Isn’t the voltage going to air handlers 220v?
