We all know about Iran from the news due to its conflict with the USA, but in this video I go beyond the geopolitics and talk about various facets of Iran. I hope you find it interesting!

Hi, everyone! I hope you like the new video! Note that there is a production mistake at 1:41. It says "2%" next to "Azeris" but that is a mistake. In my script it "Azeris 16% + 2% other Turkic".
I hope that someday RUclips will allow us to upload updated video files so I can fix things like that in the video, but they don't let us. I'd have to delete this and upload it as an entirely new video., deleting all the comments, etc.
You could fix it with an annotation? Oh wait, they got rid of those... ;-;
They got rid of those years ago.
Paul, I bet you get frustrated when people post corrections in the comments which have already been posted a million times. People don't bother to check...they will probably pile on this one even though you pointed it out already! What can you do but soldier on and thanks for doing just that. ❤️
Please record the fact that turkic speaking people in iran like azaris do not speak their historical language. Their historic language was a dialect of persian. Language dies not indicate race..As they are native iranian people living in iran for thousands of years whose language shifted. Turks were not native..they go back to around 1000 years western asia..they weren't even native to central asia.historically Turkic people were very different people who lived in northern asia. They were mongoloid people with very different culture than of modern "turkics" speakers.Turkic people in central asia are also very mixed both in race and in culture.
@@sunny-td7qg Yeah yeah sure, they suddenly changed their language just for fun... I don't understand why Iranians reject Turkic part of their history. They portray their history as if they've never mixed with other ethnicities. Ethnic mixture happened. It is not only we got mixed with you. Persians also got mixed with Turkic people as much as Turkic people are mixed with Persians. Neither side can deny that. I personally admire Persian history and culture, Turkic people owe most of their historical achievements to Persians. However, denying Turkic minority in Iran by labeling them as Persians won't make you superior, but acknowledging the facts will.

Iran is my favorite country in the World. The history grabbed me first, then the architecture and art. I visited for seventeen days in 1999, and it is difficult to find words to describe how wonderful it was. I had my own guide and driver, both of whom were wonderful and brotherly to me. The people were kind and curious about me, the food was great, and there are thousands of sites of interest to me as a lover of history and art. I HIGHLY recommend going. If you are American as I am, you must go with a tour company approved by Iran.

As a an Indian I can say we share many things in Common with Iranians .....
Such as Persian being India's official language till the year 1856 ..
Parsis coming too India and Zoroastrianism being a minority religion in both countries..
Certain Iranian cuisines are So similar to Indian one s ..
Such as the Samosas and Jalebis...
We are brothers and civilisation root that we share ,and we love you
We love indians and they are warmy welcome in Iran ..Indians are our beloved brothers just like the people of Turkey .
There is way more in common than that
Iranians are very friendly and welcoming towards foreigners. Would like to visit it when normal travel resumes.
As an Iranian, I'll share this video as an unbiased introduction to Iran to my non-Iranian friends. Excellent work! Perhaps, as a follow-up video, the contemporary sociocultural environment of Iran would be an interesting topic to explore. Iran has a very young population which is highly dynamic despite all the restrictions imposed on it internally and externally. Quite educated and progressive, given the circumstances.
I agree. Went there as an independent traveler nearly 2 decades ago, and it was already the case. Iran is probably where the Middle East will start a renaissance. Some day.
It was a Great introduction to me that live in Colombia. Hope to meet an Iranian peson once.

To answer your question as an Iranian who lives in Iran,
the most common misconception about Iran is the way our own media portrays Iranians, I estimate that maybe only a third of our population is supportive of the current government, but our media shows otherwise, same as with religion. Iran is in this weird period of transition, when religion is becoming less popular rapidly and each generation cares less about religious values. The sad thing is, we can’t legally change our religion to Christianity or Judaism or even change it to agnosticism or atheism, so this creates a false image in the statistics and they can say that 90 percent of the population is legally Muslim. However, I am legally a Muslim, BUT I have never stepped foot in a mosque voluntarily, except for when I was a kid and I didn’t really understand, nor have I ever read Quran voluntarily, I was made to do so in school (and even in higher education), but ever since then, I haven’t read it and I don’t intend to. Of course I respect religions and religious people, that’s not my point here. but the truth about Iran is not what our government shows in our media.
Keep up the good work, thank you for the video
Thanks for adding your perspective.
Thanks for spreading the truth 🙏 my family are underground Christian converts, so I appreciate your comment ❤🥰
Hello, I'm from Pakistan and I feel the same about my country. I really want to learn Persian, would you like to be my language exchange partner?
Basically, I'm asking if we can be friends?
What you stated there is exactly what I assumed about many people in Iran. Even here in the USA I know many people who are secretly non-religious. But I cannot imagine the pressure in such a repressive place like Iran. I'm a declared atheist here but if I were born in Iran I would have to be a secret atheist.

Welcome to GREAT PERSIA IRAN.
forget about the politicians. IRAN is the cradle of civilization. When you come to Iran u will see the deep culture that goes back to 1000 yrs ago. The human rights tablet was written by CYRUS THE GREAT PERSIAN KING and its at the United nations. So Welcome to Iran, the mother land of Persian people. U will enjoy ur trip.
Iran has historically and right up to the present day been totally misrepresented by others (such as Greeks in the ancient time which actually is the basis of west's misconception of the Persians and nowadays, America, Europe and Israel), because they feel threatened by its well established diverse, complete, and amazing cultures. Iran is one of the oldest countries if not the oldest in the world.
It's not true.Greeks always respected Iran. They never mispresented Iran.
Even after the ancient war ,you can read the tragedy of Aeschylus "the Persians".

Iran is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit, although I might have to wait until they put in place a less religiously conservative system. It has such a rich history and it's one of those places you certainly need to look into BEFORE going to visit lest you miss too many essential aspects.
Persian is currently first in my languages-to-learn list.
I don't see it happen soon - Japanese is a demanding master and Icelandic is tricky - but it will happen. I have been told that Iranian literature can stand its ground even against Greek, Latin and the most celebrated European literatures. I have also read that, although the language has changed and Iran has today a diglossia situation, reading ancient literature is not as forbidding as reading Chinese classics for those who only master modern Putonghua.
Just go! It's an incredible place and Absolutely safe. Definitely safer than most countries one considers safe!
Hopefully when one day iran will get rid of Abrahamic religion all for good or just becomes secular nation
It's not a religiously conservative government, it's a Fascistic islamist regime

as an Iranian, I can point to some misconceptions like
our language: the official language is Farsi and not Arabic
hijab: although there is a law for ladies to cover their hair and dress modestly, this law is not enforced strictly. so no worries for foreign ladies who are coming to Iran as tourists.
Iran it's not at all like Saudi Arabia, the degree of tolerance and the variety of different people living together having different way of thinking will surprise the visitors.
unlike what is advertised in media Iran is a safe country (as many western travelers are confirming this in their RUclips travel logs)
ladies are not oppressed in Iran. some may argue the opposite but as evidence of the presence of ladies in all activities in the society (education, politics, business..) is obvious.
as correctly pointed in this great video, Iran is not a desert 🏜️. most parts of Iran is four seasoned and all kind of climates can be experienced in Iran.
Iranian currency is relatively weak comparing to dollar, so foreigners can easily enjoy best services such as transportation and hotels, food with very cheap cost.
When talking about Iran one has to note that Iran is not a country, its a culture, an empire that strechtes beyond its physical borders. Iran is the mother of civilizations in some sense. No matter what, you can never turn your back to your mother even if you are a delinquent teen. This is a fact and has been at the core of Irans survival mystery.
Americans have chosen their enemy quite unwisely.
As flattering as it was We are not anybody's enemy ... Damn politics ... People have no animosity towards each other

Please note that it was called Iran in the ancient past. The name " Iran" is mentioned in shahname ( 1000 year old book of poetry by Ferdousi :"cho Iran mabashad...") or even avesta ( may be 3000 year old) .
Pars ( Fars) or Persia was and still is one province of Iran. It was where achaemenid dynasty in Persepolis governed the empire.
@@xerxes8191 avesta was not written in India. It was written in different parts of " great Persia" which included Afghanistan,Tajikistan and Türkmenistan. And it was written in Avestan language.
@@xerxes8191 it's true that Iran's size has changed many time during the years. But Ferdousi who is born near " Mashhad" ,a current city of Iran, always uses " Iran" as his beloved country.not just a region. " Cho Iran mabashad tane man mabad" (he doesn't say " cho pars mabashad tane man mabad" )so clearly he knows himself as an Iranian. Now,pars is a province in Iran, which has been the capital and probably the most important province. So you are right to say Persia is different from Iran, because it's a part of Iran .
@@xerxes8191 Avestan language is a language. People who follow Zarathustra in Iran understand that language. It's not Sanskrit. Although it's close to Sanskrit
The following is from the first four lines of Wikipedia under the name of Avesta.

You can see super-rich people to super poor people in different parts because of the wide gap between the rich and the poor.
So, similar to almost every other country including (especially) the USA. Always inequality…human nature unfortunately. I’m fascinated by ancient history and Persian languages, mythology, art, poetry, and military campaigns are some of my favorite things to study. One of my doctors is Persian and he is an expert on infectious diseases. Also, growing up I had a neighbor who was a very handsome, athletic guy who used to play soccer (football) for the Iranian National team! He was sooo amazing with a ball ⚽️. He moved to California because of the political situation after the Islamic Revolution, so I knew him in the 80s. One of the most humble, kind, and intelligent men I knew. He had just started a family and had a couple of young kids with his wife, and he had trained to become a civil engineer. I have always been fascinated by Persia and its people and culture. I’m not a religious person and I wish the “West” and the government of Iran would both stop acting like children. I would love to see Iran and to snow ski there especially! And of course, eat some of the amazing food and make some friends. I’m a bit older now, but maybe it will happen some day. خدانگهدار 😊
@@dukeon thank you very much for those positive replies. They made my day😉😉

Thanks for your true information, and showing real Iran, love from 🇮🇷 ❤
as an Iranian I like your video very much, most of the information was correct. I just think if you mentioned more about iranian poetry and music the video would be much more better. I wish some day you come here and visit our beautiful country. people here are so welcome and hospital. and please do not judge Iranians by their government. we ourselves have no problem with no country and we are not militant people. we want peace with all countries in the world. and I should mention here that now a great number of Iranians (specially the younger generation ) are no longer believe in religion and they are really open minded.
Wow !

Iran is our ally. I love Iran from China. 🇨🇳😍🇷🇺🇮🇷 🇨🇳😘🇮🇷🇷🇺 🇨🇳🇮🇷🇷🇺
Iran is not your ally. mullahs are your ally
The Islamic Republic is your ally not Iran! although we Iranians have no problem withe Chinese people (I myself admire your ancient country very much )but we can not tolerate that how your government is actually eating our country and all of our worthy resources and support the government that most of us don't want.

Don't believe media guys we are not terrorist and Iran is the safest country in Middle East... love from Iran 💖🙏 peace ✌️
You did amazing job, thx.
As an Iranian, I think that most foreign people think that Iran is falling because of the sanctions. But they don't know how bad our government is. The 1979 revolution was a complete mistake and we don't want the current regime!!

Is it true former president mhamoud tried to overthrow the Khomeini supreme leader?
shah was the puppet of us.we saved our country from the slavery.
@@Dani2kAl_GEIR what about mhamoud?
Shut up baby🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're good. Non judgmental, excellent balance reporting.
There are few countries as beautiful as Iran, few cultures as refined as the Persian culture, few peoples as educated as Iranians. (I am not Iranian).
Thanks for beautiful unbiased introduction 👍🏼🌺
highly informative! Zoroastrianism was the original religion of Iran and was exported to many nearby countries (especially india)
