    Could you show how you would track thru Zulu with a condenser mic that requires phantom power.

    • @langstonmasingale3365
      @langstonmasingale3365  4 года назад +2

      If you have a phantom powered mic you would do the following: mic to preamp (48V) to Zulu. If you don't have an external preamp then you will have to print vocals to Zulu in post.

      I'd recommend you purchase a small Mackie mixer to interface with Zulu and whichever method you're using to record your results. Mainly because you'll get analog gain and EQ from the mixer to manipulate the sounds going into your Zulu.

      do you always have to cook your mix in order to get the best results from zulu I assume yes but would like to know from the man who created this device

    • @langstonmasingale3365
      @langstonmasingale3365  2 года назад

      @@kaisersoze9488 you don't need to pummel Zulu with level on input for a mix. I normally go closer to peak 0db, occasionally +1 or +2 if I'm using JUST a set of converters. The most important piece of prep is to EQ into the tape formula. Never go flat and expect it to sound 1:1 frequency response wise. EQ some extra treble into the mix before Zulu to offset treble rolloff, you can also cut some bass to increase the ceiling of saturation. That's all normally addressed during mixing, but in a pinch, try a Pultec before Zulu with a high shelf boost and either a slight cut around 30hz or a boost depending on how you want the tape formulation and machine combo to react.

    What’s a girl gotta do to get themselves a Zulu?

    I’m extremely frustrated that I bought this thing, and it came with no instructional manual. I have no clue what each knob is actually doing. The only knob I can hear any clear change with is the enhance knob. It seems to add treble and depth. The rest do almost nothing. To make it worse, there’s no tutorials on how to get it to run smoothly with Logic. I’m having all sorts of issues, and it seems like I’m SOL. I don’t know why, but I have the worst luck with gear.

      Hello, cbrooks0905 the instruction manual is on the Handsomeaudio.com website next to the buy now button. Please turn Enhance back down to 0. How hot are you levels coming out of your computer? You more than likely are coming out too quiet. Tbh Logic is not the easiest platform to use hardware inserts with. More than likely you'll need a gain plugin in front of the hardware insert and one after it to get similar results to what im doing in Reaper.. we try to save paper so our instruction manual is digital. Ill put the link for you here as well.

      @@langstonmasingale3365, I’ve seriously been thinking about switching to Reaper or Studio One because Logic gives me nothing but trouble. I think Logic is the main problem. Every time I try to send out to the Zulu I end up with either latency or not a good sound or both. I’ve successfully used it about twice. The rest of the times ended in immense frustration.

    This beat is wack. I can't hear what Zulu is doing. Having a techno distorted type bass drum sound doesn't help trying to discern the effect of the Zulu.
    Take a one mic digital drum recording and turn it into a Daptone late 60's soul breakbeat sound with the Zulu then I'll believe in it.
    Process individuals tracks and A/B switch between Zulu and no Zulu mix so we can hear a cumulative effect of the Zulu.
    This isn't tape. It is hardware saturation. But how useful is it?
    Telling me it sounds like you sent your wack beat to a mastering engineer with million dollar gear doesn't influence my ears or convince me.
    Wack demo Langston.
    PS, I'm still gonna buy one to experiment with it.

      Thanks for your feedback, there's several other demos I'd recommend for something along those lines such as Mike Avenaim's Zulu demo or pretty much anything AJ Hall posts on Instagram since he uses Zulu religiously for his break beats.
      Here's Mike's Zulu Demo: ruclips.net/video/_dxySQlKCVg/видео.html
      Here's an AJ Hall Clip (ps most of his stuff is on Instagram, he has some Daptone-ish breaks on there that use Zulu): ruclips.net/user/shortseT_sMj-9hjM?si=Tgn-HeAjme6wYJSR
      Take those for a quick spin and see if that's more your vibe. Zulu is really flexible and while this might not be your vibe, there's a tape machine for everyone inside Zulu.

      Is that the best you can come up with?
      The first video is less than minute long and is horribly distorted.
      The second video had a somewhat useful drum squash sound. But it was also a 'short' video.
      Is this box for deaf mentally ill people who want to sound like they recorded through a talk back mic clipping the audio interface for some some nasty digital clipping sound?
