Lea’s version is still my favorite. She kills this song every time she sings it. Although I love Idina, I didn’t really like her version of it.
She shouldn't have changed the notes for no reason. Hate it when singers try to personalize a song they are covering by altering it unecessarily. Glee usually doesn't do that.

No, she was out of tempo, her breathing unstable, and Barbra clearly didn't like it
Belona v.a. I respect that. But Idina was a little off key for the orchestra and that took her out of place, and then when she was trying to get on key, her breathe started to get unstable and then she switched to chest voice, and then to using her neck, which took away from the overall sound and performance.. I love Leah Michelle and Glee. And I love how they do interesting twists to the story like Indina doing Don’t rain on my parade. And Leah doing defying gravity, and let it go.
It baffles me that people even put that auto-tuned Lea Michelle in the same category as Barbra.

If she can sing Defying Gravity and The Wizard and I, with asthma, she can sing this. I dont know what she was thinking or trying to do, but she did not do a good job with this cover. I think this song was just a little too fast for her which is why she had trouble singing it.

Idina has never said she has asthma. That's just a rumor her fans like to repeat. Kristin Chenoweth however does have asthma and always sounds great.

Naya’s version was so much better then Lea’s, she really made it her own and in my opinion I think she’s an overall better singer than Lea
I love both version although I love Naya's emotion everytime she sings, she's more raw and infectious, Lea is a little bit over the top at times and like she's forcing her emotions with her face. Although I have to point out that Naya's version may have been on a lower key.

Lol that’s so funny! I read somewhere online that Barbara didn’t like performing in front of live audiences bc she often forgot the lyrics to her songs and it would stress her. That’s why she didn’t have many live tours.

It truly is insane how accurate Glee was casting her and Lea as mother and daughter. They literally look the same, have the same voice, same power, same stage presence, same facial expressions, and same talent. Its seriously so crazy looking back.

In my opinion she really tried to build the song very well... Her opening section was in a sort of chirpy, happy tone, which I had never heard before (and tbh found a tad unsettling), but it built to the broad and belting section, which I LOVED! Still love Idina!
Came back to add.... I think I like Idina's vibrato more than Lea's (though have to acknowledge Lea's awesome Macy's Parade opening!!)

I remember watching this on CBS! This was the first time i ever heard the song. I was almost 16 when the telecast aired that night. I'm 28 now. It took me four years after this to actually rent Funny Girl. Idina slayed this classic showtune

Wicked cast album was the first time i heard Idina sing. Years before Frozen happened. I wore one of my T shirts to see Frozen at the El Capitan in Hollywood in 2013 in her honor

I love Lea and her work on this song... but Idina is a proper, Broadway trained singer and actress. She’s stellar, and her voice resonates more than almost anyone’s. I love her version and I think she puts her own fun spin on the song. I just don’t think people like her twang... but I LOVE it 🖤

Yah, I wanna love Idina on this and she had some great moments. Unnerving to say the least singing this SONG to LA STREISAND!!!! I'm glad she had the honor. I've long been a fan of Ms. Menzel since I saw her in Rent in '96 & '97. I feel like she's earned the right to do this song so this makes me happy.
