    This is one of the best all around touring skis for the east coast. 30+ days on mine touring last year, happy with every type of skiing as mentioned. Rips on the groomers, nice float for the pow, minimal chatter even in the ice, feather light uphill ect. Just buy!

    Torn between this and the Orb Freebird for my only dedicated touring ski (for now); will be primarily touring in Tahoe, but might do a trip or two. I think both seem fine from an uphill perspective, and although I would like a wider ski for more float, I want to bias towards which ski is more maneuverable/surfy than the other (even if it comes at the expense of speed/stability). For now at least, I want something where I can confidently make my way down through technical terrain in variable conditions even when I'm tired from all the climbing. I guess I'm asking, between the Orb Freebird and Camox Freebird, which is "easier" to ski?

      I'd say the Camox. The Orb is slightly strange in that it has a very long turn radius. If the snow is soft, you'll want the width.

    Hi! I'm looking for a ~100mm waist downhill/touring ski (70/30). Hoping to have a one-ski quiver and I ski on the west coast, primarily in Whistler, BC. How would you compare these to the Atomic Backland 100s? Any insightful drawbacks between the two besides the big weight difference? Was also considering the Black Crows Navis Freebird instead of the Camox Freebird, but still hard to decide between the birds and the Atomic Backlands!

      The Camox Freebird and the Backland 100 feel quite similar--maybe a bit more energy in the Atomic due to the carbon stringers. I'd prefer to ski the Atomic in a 70/30 scenario, mainly because I'm just super impressed with the resort application here. The Camox has a rounder shovel with more taper, so it's a bit smoother in the softer snow, but that's about the only benefit from going that route.

    I am looking for a 100% touring ski and trying to decide between the Camox Freebird and the Atomic Backland 100 right now. Any recommendation on what to go with in this scenario?

      The Backland has an impressive amount of energy and pop to it. The Camox is a bit more subdued, so it kind of depends what type of energy level you're looking for. Both are remarkably light and uphill efficient.

    Thanks guys! Im looking for a light 1-ski quiver. Could this be a good option? Im only 60kg and a moderate skiier.

      Sure! Light weight, mid-90's underfoot, good build--should be a great option!

      @@SkiEssentials Big thanks for your advice! I tested the skiis this Monday and just loved them. They suit my type of skiing better than the QST 98. Luckily the shop allowed me to swap the skiis.

      I got over 100 days of skiing on these with some Armada Shifts. Shred super hard on groomed and have a lot of fun in fresh snow. One of my all time favorites. Only downside is if it's very very icy, not stiff or heavy enough to grab. Then again it's not the purpose of this ski at all.

      @@GoSockALemon Totally agree! In addition they are a bit noisy when its icy as well. That's the only drawback in my opinion:)

    How would you compare this to the Navis Freebird?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  8 месяцев назад +1

      The Navis is more floaty and freeride oriented with a wider waist and more dramatic taper in the shovel. The Camox is the more efficient climber, but it does reduce the downhill power and stability. If you're aiming to be more aggressive in the backcountry, I'd go Navis, but for more moderate skiing and terrain, the Camox is an easier ski to manage.

    Hi guys, I'm looking for skis for 70% rando, freeride, forests and 30% grooms. I'm an intermediate skier looking to improve technique. These Camox freebirds like the Blaze 94 catch my attention. I am 1.82 meters tall and weigh 95 kg. How can you guide me to decide? Thank you!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 месяца назад

      The Blaze is a better groomer ski or sure. Camox is lighter and more efficient in the climbs. If you're 70% rando, I'd say the Camox in the 180 makes good sense here.
