  • In this Field Strip video I show to how to field strip for cleaning and maintenance the Browning Buck Mark Contour .22lr Target Pistol. This will be the same or similar process for most of the Buck Mark pistols. This firearm is a little tricky to take apart and requires tools. It is not required to do this often, but from time to time you may need to in order to deep clean it. I hope this video helps someone in the future.

I waffled between the buckmark and Mark IV. I went with mark 4 because of the ease of field stripping and cleaning, so friken simple and quick. Browing needs to redesign the take down of the buckmark, it's stupid!

I love my contour!! For light cleaning I use a pull through snake. But a deep clean i do disassemble it like you are doing here. I also find that it does nit affect my red dot accuracy at all.

Truly awesome. Thanks for sharing sir.
Out of curiousity, how would this version of the Buck Mark compare to the Buck Mark Field Target in terms of target/competition shooting?

The Buck Mark is a fantastic .22 pistol. You can use a pull through cable cleaner(Real Avid makes a kit) instead of removing the barrel for easier cleaning.

I am not 100% sure. I no longer have this pistol in for review.

    Thanks for the video

      Not hard at all.

This is from a review that someone did to the 7.25 inch barrel
“Well, after I literally bent a hex-head wrench trying to loosen the 3 screws, I called Browning Tech Support and was told that the screws are "permanently loctite'd in"

I've had three Browning Buck Marks. Taking out the barrel from the frame for the FIRST time, you need to use a heat gun to loosen away the thread lock that Browning use in the factory. Be careful doing this as you can warp the frame if you rush the process and aren't careful. Use low heat. It will take several application of heat as you try loosening that barrel screw. It's a good quality 22LR which I like better than Ruger Mark IV and the Smith & Wesson cheaper model, not the expensive model of SW.

The field strip process sucks big time on the Browning - makes a Ruger mk4 with the one button disassembly seem like NASA technology. Two different allen wrenches, small washers that can easily get lost, barrel screw that can back out , having to take an optic off just to strip it - what were they thinking? The Browning notion that one should clean it through the open action seems like they knew they messed up.

Great points. It needs a big redesign to address it.

Maybe you could have a look Ruger Mk3 field strip.

Ok that looks like a pain to clean and strip

It kind of is. I guess you could get used to it though.
