How We Celebrate Christmas & New Year in the Coldest Village on Earth (−71°C, −95°F)

  • Christmas and New Year are celebrated differently in Yakutia. For the Yakut people, there are two new years to celebrate.
The first is the Yakutian new year, which falls on the summer solstice, on June 21st. This is a time of great celebration, when the people come together to mark the beginning of the summer and to honor their ancestors.
The Yakut people also celebrate the western new year, which takes place on January 1st. This holiday is similar to Christmas, with celebrations, gift-giving, and special traditions.
I am pleased to share how we celebrate Christmas and New Year in Yakutia, as we say in Yakutia: Sana Djilinan, Sana Djolunan!
Wishing you all a happy Christmas and new year, to you and your loved ones from the coldest place on earth, Yakutia.

Im lying in bed at 4am fighting cancer and this video reminds me of what life is truly about. Not trivial things we buy and social media with its self indulgence aspects. This family for me is the heart of life. They love each other and the respect and happiness they share is a testament to how little we need to be happy. Love and family are so sacred. ❤❤❤

    -------------
Greetings from Scotland! I think every "Westerner" could relate to their celebrations! When my children were young I would go out looking for a suitable tree, just like this! 1 year I found a perfect tree and cut it down but as I stepped back, I went through the deep snow into a hole about 1.5M deep! I had such a fright because I thought I was going to fall much deeper! I got out and took the tree back home to my family, like a triumphant warrior! Ha ha ha! Good memories! Thank you for another excellent video of the Yakutian way of life, Kiun! 😊😊👏👏
I hope you all enjoy this festive, wonderful time of year! May 2023 be a great year for everyone and may we have peace everywhere, please! 🕊🕊

Probably religious people go to church and visit but there are too many ethnicities of different religions in Russia to generalise

    • @Pauldjreadman

@@oliviao3686 Well looks like they and they are. I had no idea there were in Russia, until I saw numerous videos on other channels on this on this place. Christmas is peagon but was nicked by Christianity. This religion has been spread far and wide. Alternatively they heard about it and just like it. I'm not religious but you don't have to be religious to enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it fair enough, a lot don't or many humans celebrate in different months for different reasons. :)

What the West calls Christmas is actually the Nardugan holiday of the Turks. Santa Claus is actually Ayaz Dede. Ayaz means very cold and Dede means Grandfather/Ancestor. Ayaz Dede appeared at night to the Sakha Turks living in extreme cold and helped those who were about to die of cold. The White Pine tree is sacred in Asia. It represents the tree of life. If you research the Nardugan holiday, you will learn about the real Santa Claus, Ayaz Dede and many other things.

Sadly as a lay in bed watching this video it brings back memories in how we in the U.S. used to traditionally celebrate Christmas! Watching this reminds me of the earlier years when things were celebrated with the family and before Christmas true meaning was robbed by being commercialized with buying large expensive gifts that very few can really afford!

I don't know if you're aware of it, but Christmas is the celebration of winter solstice with Christianity shoehorned in. Most of the traditions we practice are today are from pagan culture and have been coopted by the Christians so they could celebrate winter solstice without being sinful.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with Christians celebrating it, but it's funny to see this strong association of Christ and pagan winter celebrations when you consider that in the 1600's, the english puritans tried to ban it and replace it with fasting lol

There are lots of security systems that have cameras capable of extreme cold. Technology has gotten very good, so there are lots of options nowadays, but the main issue with filming in the cold is the battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if they needed to insulate them, but we can see that there are lots of shots that they take, and inside it is probably much more comfortable to film. I'd love to see behind the scenes on how they film.
