I just cleaned my engines with Krud Kutter. Works great. Painted afterwards and it sticks great.

I watch a lot of sailing vlogs and never see them cover this important topic. Well done!

I thought this video was actually pretty useful. It might be a boring video but it does have it's use. I like your channel because of the variety I see. There are entertaining videos, learning videos, and just some videos where you talk to the audience or other people. It's definitely the kind of thing I come to youtube for.

Love the videos and the stoic joy you have for sailing. Go Navy, Beat Army.

Well done doing the old school way. Another sailing channel Life in a Nutshell used automotive spray on degreaser on his Diesel engine. The fumes were trapped in the bilge and caused an explosion when he later turned on the gas stove to make coffee. Luckily not too serious damage.

Watching this video has helped to demystify the engine of a boat. Not at all unlike a car's engine.

Got to this video a bit late, but for the corroded parts, you could brush them, apply rust converter and then spray paint them. It will keep the rust away. Thanks for the video

FYI to all watching... Alternators and starters and almost anything if not everything on a motor can get wet. You do want to minimize how much you spray directly into those components, but dont be afraid to give her hell! be smart about it though!

The CRC corrosion inhibtor is good stuff, but just as good or maybe better is Sta-bil Rust stopper. It is a bit thicker, and cheaper than CRC. Plus the flip up straw is better

Water is not going to hurt that alternator I have an old Ford tractor. The alternator has been getting rained on for 30 years and it still work but I get what you’re saying.

Great video, thanks. Just curious, why use so little water if you have the electrics and intake covered anyway? Soaps can leave slightly corrosive residue, I'd be inclined give it a good rinse after. Diesel engines are not very susceptible to anything from water.

Use the Blue Dawn with the duck on it. Its a better degreaser., That's what they use to degrease ducks during oil spills

Great post Mr. Post! Front of the engine looked to have quite a bit of V-belt dust while the sides seemed fairly clean before you started. More like years of oil creep from spillage during oil fill or diesel leak? Fantastic safety considerations. Something learned in the Navy?

Thanks for the great video. It's very informative to new boat owners. Also and watching some of your other videos what type of motorcycle did you have in your tour around southern Mexico?

Thank you. In Mexico I had an Italika FT200. They are very inexpensive Mexican / Chinese bikes. Even though they are “cheap” bikes, we never had any problems over more than 3000 miles.

Question - I want to make all my interior surfaces white / off-white. The tabletops, and counter tops, etc. Can I just paint them all white? Or will that not last? They are wood stained currently. I am planning on light sanding, primer, and a good quality exterior or expoxy paint

Hi, we changed the interiors on our cruiser...the ply was thoroughly sanded and de-dusted, primed and painted with scrubbable paint. The worktop was changed ..we made different shaped one for a new layout from 25mm ply which was given a resin prime and 3 decorative coats. Bit messy but looks good. Loads of tips for resin worktop creations on YT .... just adapt to suit your preferences. Good luck ..

Cleaning that thing is no different than putting lipstick on the pig. That water pump cover has corrosion over the screws. Tells me you weren’t in there. Yours is very easy to get at. Number ONE thing on a used boat; replace the water pump impeller! Don’t believe what the former owners says. Replace it every two years minimum from the install date not running hours. Clock is ticking from install. Keep spares onboard. Check risers. Any signs of leak or stains, pull, inspect, replace, repair, new gaskets and assemble. Check valve lash per manufacturer’s instructions. Replace thermostat. Change fluids and filters. These are the minimum for an old used boat. Limit running till it’s addressed!

      @JoshPostVlogs  3 года назад +2

Thanks. This video shows only the cleaning. One of my next videos (filmed the day after this one) will show the full maintenance work up I did with oil change, impeller change, fuel filter change, coolant flush and change, raw water filter install, etc.

@@JoshPostVlogs *_ OK, so every time you drive your car in rain/wet you're going to cover the Starter & Altenator...... Those were designed to handle lots of water and as for the wiring, its DC Current and getting the connections wet will dilute any salty deposits..... DUH! Always use a Water Soluble DEGREASER which is kinder to the environment and Non-Volatile! _*
