Cold steel do make decent products. I was dissapointed how my trail hawk arrived. The edge was square. But once it was fixed up it performed well. Buying a cutting tool that doesn't cut drives me nuts. I bet that thing with an edge would be a beast.
This is an interesting video. You got a budget version I'm guessing. Mine I got at a yard sale about 7 years ago and it has a sheath. No issues with the edge what's so ever.
i love it more than the normal katana cause its cheaper and you can chop wood with it and the handle doesn't take that much of a shock but it is slippery you can modify the handle with some ductape on the bottom cold steel made it good
I've been wanting to see you review this. My gladius Machete looked like it was cut out with a plasma torch. Lol After a lot of file and stone work, it's great. Great bang for the buck. Should say some assembly required on the box. Thanks Tac
My katana machete came just like yours, crazy burr and rolled tip. Still a fun, functional blade but I wish cold steel would have corrected these before sending them out. From a business perspective you would think that since these are so affordable that they would go out in great condition 1 because they just should, imo this is not a finished product and 2 to attract more customers by demonstrating the quality of their products at an affordable price point. I've been using cold steel products for a very long time and i'm going to continue using them, I just hope that their standards for quality in their lower priced products goes back to what it used to be.
Nice vid Tac, don't care for CS much, but i wanted to try out one of there Gladius Machetes, it came with a crazy burr like you described; a few passes over a stone, then touch up with a sharpening steel took care of that real quick though. There longer blades/swords tend to handle like sharpened crowbars, and like this one the tips don't hold up well; i'd recommend Condor for something like this.
hey do a review on the coldsteel heavy machete. mine came almost without an edge. rolled, chips, dents, even flat spots. after a week or so with stones and files it became the best machete i ever had
You definitely got a bad one. I ran the risk and got a perfect one. No roll overs or burs. Cuts like a charm and is fun to throw like a spear. For $23 it is nice. That being said no one else really makes something like this... A big machete katana sword tanto spear thing...
Some Cold Steel knives are pretty good and solid. I have a Spartan that is a pocket sword and came from the factory razor sharp. Some of their cheap, big stuff is just that... cheaply made but functional.
Yo Tac, brother, if I were to pick up a sword to use in the event I run out of ammo in shtf, what would you recommend, one handed, usable in a middle class house with narrow doors, hallways, capable of stabbing as well as slicing? Any suggestions around $50? Thanks!
Hey brotha im lookin for a nice good knife i can use outdoors like for choppin and stuff like that but i dont have a lot of money to spend on a good knife so what would be a goo knife to get that is under 30 bucks
KK so I seen this at a knife dealer. While handling it I musta slipped into this pseudo zombpocolypse dream , plunked down my 48 bucks and went home. Get home and try and use it and found out I am not allowed to go to knife stores by myself any more. AGAIN lol. Handle is to long for the weight(or lack there of) of the blade. The handle is also to thick for the grip they gave us. Though I found with non slip gloves it was not to bad in wet weather. Anything you hit it with over say an in in diameter tranfers vibration all the way to your shoulder. I was calling it my "Neither here nor there" LOL. It is a very expensive weed whacker; Oh and mine came reasonably sharp with no burs and the tip was shaped like it should have been. I gave it away.
It's a giant tanto blade! You got a bad one. That tip is unacceptable. There is a new "tactical" version of this blade that actually looks like a katana available from Cold Steel this year. No one has reviewed it yet.
***** Yea that is definitely something I'll be looking forward to if/when you review it. The design looks great, but the steel on the thing has me wondering, and I hope it isn't the same steel used in this machete. And I'm very surprised that no one has reviewed the thing yet. Unless everyone considers it the same as the machete reviewed in this video, just with a different shape.
Brian Mccann No, the Thai machete is shaped differently he is talking about this one www.knifecenter.com/item/CS97TKMS/cold-steel-97tkms-tactical-katana-machete-carbon-steel-blade-polypropylene-handles-cor-ex-sheath That being said, it looks flimsy and unbalanced. I would still prefer the Thai machete because of the better balance and 2 handed option
To be blunt. How can CS call this a katana? what makes this a katana? It`s just a huge ass tanto sword/machete imo. But hey thats just me :) Great vid bro! fun to watch something different. Snake
Really not a fan of Cold Steel, I bought a $110 knife and the edge was horrible. It was like half serrated because it had so many little chips in the edge. And I guess they haven't fixed this issue, I would buy so many products from them but I'm worried the edge will be complete shit. I don't want to spend half an hour fixing a edge on high price knives, but great video as always!
Nice review as always. That edge though.... Almost seems like the handle should have been straight all the way back instead of so tapered. There are better options in the $30 price range for sure. Go kill some more trees with that thing!
I have a CS Katana Machete. It came with the same bur. I cringed when you ran your hand down that blade no glove. Metal sliver like a mofo! That being said, it's SO much, I'm not at all dissapointed in it.
I think either just laziness or cs just shits these machetes out I've heard similar stories about bad blades profile uneven coatings but in cold steel defense I do own an srk and it's a bad mofo

Easy to sharpen and get a decent edge on. Handle is a prime candidate for grip tape.
This is an interesting video. You got a budget version I'm guessing. Mine I got at a yard sale about 7 years ago and it has a sheath. No issues with the edge what's so ever.
That is a hillarious shot of you battoning with it! Really though, not fair to leave the bead on.
i love it more than the normal katana cause its cheaper and you can chop wood with it and the handle doesn't take that much of a shock but it is slippery you can modify the handle with some ductape on the bottom cold steel made it good
Been eye balling this blade for awhile now, its worth the money!

TACT, I like the way you really tell it like it is, great job!!

Cool field Test 👍
Thank U for the Info 👍
For the price i'm sure it won't hurt to ease the burr off for a nice edge. I want one.
surprise surprise, cold steel's limpin to the barn again!
Man I got one and its wicked . I've had it bent in half almost and it springs right back . It's not a toy by any means .

maybe hard use on hard wood such as batoning can get rid of the burr....?
hey do a review on the coldsteel heavy machete. mine came almost without an edge. rolled, chips, dents, even flat spots. after a week or so with stones and files it became the best machete i ever had
Those were some nice rocks in the begining. :)
You should do another test after you have fixed the rolled point and sharpened the edge.
Tony Atzen we shall see
Could you do a video of your top 5 favorite fired blade and/or folding knives? Unless you already did and I'm being stupid. Great vids also.
Lol when he starts cutting the tree 🤣🤣🤣
good review Tac you know your stuff.

Looks like a blade you could have a bit of fun with and not worry about ruining it.

I like the good content, keep it up.
What is best a katana or the 2 handed machete ?

That looks like something I would make in my garage.
I've never been able to find info on what kind of tang this has. I'd hope it is most of the way down the handle.
Got mine off of Kult of Athena. Paid extra for the sharpening service. Came razor sharp, so I guess that was money well spent
Nice vid tac! :)
Could you test the Jungle Hunter Machete, please?
Joseph Stalin I haven't seen it
I'll provide a link ASAP.
It's in there, it's in there; that what's she said ??? :-)
Nice review Tac.
FloFloNL lol
Great review brother
KNIFEJUNKIE 13 thanks my man
I would make it a little shorter so its sturdy and make it into a clip point.
joel Velazquez that's a good idea

Jeff, you talking about the Tai Machete ?

+AquaAriaSachou ok, i see the new Tactical Katana Machete. looks better.
man you could really see the rolled over edge on that thing. that's sad that they don't use better quality control
torince1 I hear ya
Damn it Jeff! Oh well.
4:27 that was funny. Idk why lol
tac has some awesome nikes lol
For total mcnastyness get there Chinese warsword. Its heavy duty
If I was in the knife business I would sell sharp knives?
Sweet

Hey so tac , we know your fav knife, tomahawk and axe but whats your fav machete?
Sid Organ well if you count the Kershaw camp series
The shape of the tip looks weird
Charlie Baker true
Charlie Baker thats what she said
It seems like a tanto/sheepsfoot blend
I love mine.
To be blunt. How can CS call this a katana? what makes this a katana? It`s just a huge ass tanto sword/machete imo. But hey thats just me :) Great vid bro! fun to watch something different.
Snake

Wow Tac. Another bleak blade nevertheless you gave another nice report on them
Kirk Veesaert I do what I can my friend

Foges584584 thanks man
Good Rev. Except you couldn't break it. So I give it at least an 8. If you had broken it then it would deserve at best a 5, Hahahhaaa
four words: Kershaw Camp 10, bitches!
They look good but yes they co.e bad loaded with burrs a d I hate there plastic handles. The kukri has a rubber handle and is a better chopper
I will rush out and buy one as soon as the zombie apocalypse starts other than that its just stoopid stupid lmao
Nice review as always. That edge though.... Almost seems like the handle should have been straight all the way back instead of so tapered. There are better options in the $30 price range for sure. Go kill some more trees with that thing!
Tim Schmidt 10-4!
I have a CS Katana Machete. It came with the same bur. I cringed when you ran your hand down that blade no glove. Metal sliver like a mofo! That being said, it's SO much, I'm not at all dissapointed in it.
It was probably a dumb and lazy worker that did the sharpening. He be like 😒😒
Kaden Asher lol true
