West Ham United can confirm that defender Thilo Kehrer has joined AS Monaco on a permanent contract for an undisclosed fee, having spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at the French Ligue 1 side.
The 27-year-old made 12 appearances for the Hammers at the start of the campaign before linking up with Les Rouge et Blanc in early January, in a deal that included an option for him to remain at the Stade Louis II long term.
In his 17 outings for eight-time French champions Monaco so far, Kehrer has helped Adi Hütter’s men secure second place in the table, and a return to the main draw of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2018/19.
In total, the Germany international played 50 games for the Irons after signing from Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2022, including one as a substitute in the UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina last June.
Everyone at West Ham would like to thank Thilo for his efforts during his time in Claret and Blue, and wish him all the best for the future.

The irony is both would improve our starting 11 straightaway! A partnership of Dinos and Maguire at the back and McTominay and Alvarez in midfield is better than what we’ve currently got and both would also suit Lopetegui’s style of play as both Maguire and McTominay are better with the ball at their feet than Zouma and Soucek.

When we signed him Kehrer was of the standard of West Ham players. We just didn’t have anywhere to play him. ironically, by the end of this season, he’s probably a better standard compared to our center backs. Anyhow, pleased he’s found a place to prosper.

With the squad places we currently have free and the players yet to sign a new deal there are 8 squad places not filled (9 if you include Mubama's role in the first team). Youth players should be involved as part of the squad but even so with the longer games and amount of injuries we've seen this season we need 2 quality players per position and a group of youth players ready to step in. 6 players wont cover that. Especially when Ings, Cornet and others aren't likely to stay as well. However I'm very sure that Steidten is looking to be very very busy and a lot busier than people are expecting.

I think when we judge players on their performance on the pitch we to make bigger issues of it when they are defenders,,,, perhaps when a forward,, let’s say. ,, is off target when there is an open golf situation.. there’s nowhere near as much background music as there is if it’s a defender ,,, smaller error

I’m a big fan of selling players at their ‘peak’ provided we have a professional scouting system. So Paqueta this year and in a season’s time maybe Kudus and Bowen. Bring in talent and hope they reach their potential. We have always been useless in the selling of players and hopefully this will improve

The personnel is the problem at the back, rather than our style of play. Because if “sitting back” really was the problem why does the defensive minded Sean Dyche have no trouble conceding 22 less goals than we have this season? Dyche didn’t have to spend a lot of money either. Tarkowski was a freebie and Branthwaite was peanuts from Carlisle.
That’s what Moyes got wrong. It’s not how he sets us up defensively, it’s the ‘quality’ of the players. Not only that, the money he spent on them. Zouma and Aguerd combined are around £60m. We even knew during Zouma’s medical he had a dodgy knee and still signed him.
Zouma’s knees are gone. Aguerd is too much of a wimp for the Premier League. Oggy’s age has sadly caught up with him.
And Dinos can’t go for more than 3-4 games without making a sloppy/costly mistake.
For all the good things Moyes has done, and he really did do a lot of good things, the defence is arguably what cost him his job in the end. He got it horrifically wrong with his signings. Hopefully Lopetgui does a better job with the defensive signings as I personally think that’s all we’re missing from being back up in the European places.
If our defence was as solid as Everton’s under sergeant Dyche we’d comfortably be in Europe for next season, as our attack isn’t the problem.

How he got onto PSG's books I would actually pay to know! Ogbonna has been a gladiator for us and I will miss him. Aguerd never quite hit the levels I was expecting, and the pace of the PL frustrated him and asked a bit to much of the lad.
