The Metolius...sacred ground for sure. One of my favorite places on earth. The one that broke off must have been an absolute tank! But, you landed some real beauties after that. The Brown was amazing. That's a day to remember!
I agree. Never caught or saw a brown caught on the Met. Have caught rainbow and Kokanee. I wonder if the browns come up from Lake Billy Chinook to spawn?
Just rewatched this and have to say that this video deserves a million views. I know of guys that have pulled bulls and rainbows on the same day but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone else catching a Brown, a Bull and Rainbows from the Metolius all on the same day. It is a tough river to fish and getting the trifecta on video is pretty unheard of. You've had a great season. That beast you got on the D during the Salmonfly hatch was amazing as well.
You're super kind! Yeah, the stars & moons aligned well for that Trifecta. The Metolius works in mysterious ways. I could easily get skunked next week! The video is probably headed for a million views. LOl. Just gotta break 300 first! 😂 Positive thinking!! 😂Thanks for your support!
Hi Jeff- Great videos. My son and I have been fishing the Metolius now for a couple years. Can you give your preference of rod weight and length? 4 or 5 wt? 8' 6" or 9'? thanks
Agreed on the coming back! I marked the spot in my memory. It's gonna be one of those spots you always hit with each return visit. LOL. Thanks for checking out the video!
Isn't it crazy? I've tried looking up some info, and found virtually no background info on Browns in the Metolius. Thinking somebody planted some in there decades ago during the Rainbow stocking era.
Thanks! I LOVE it too. So that fly I showed during the intro is a Chubby Chernobyl "adult" golden stonefly pattern. Just a typical version, not to be confused with a larger/darker version that imitates the larger salmon fly.
Pretty much anywhere. There are great spots up and down this river. But it took me years to connect the dots on how to consistently catch fish on the Metolius.
Multi-Species trout kind of day on the Metolius River last week!

Thx! Yeah, that break off did not feel like a normal trout. Crazy. That brown trout had me grinning ear to ear. 😀
That medley was awesome. I've never seen a brown trout on the Met.
Thanks! Super fun! A brown is a real treat!

@@kd8199 I've researched it since making this video. Definitely came up from the lake. 😎
I can't believe that Brown Trout at 7:12!!! Amazing!
I couldn't believe it either!! Thx for watching!!! 🙏
My heart sunk when that bruiser broke you off! Well done though, that looks like a magical river!
Ha ha, I know. It didn't even feel like a trout. It felt like a human grabbed the thick part of the leader and pulled. LOL. I stood no chance. 😂

Just needed a white fish to complete the entire Metolius package.
Ha ha, no kidding! 😎 There's also a few brook trout scattered around there. I caught one about 8 years ago. Like the browns, they are rare.
Oh man , I felt your pain on that monster . It’s what keeps us coming back . Great vid Brother 👊

hey man! awesome vid, were you just throwing that chubby or did you have a nymph below it too?
Thanks, just a chub by itself. Fish were super active that day.
Wow, didn't realize they had Browns in the Metolius, good day fishing!

I Think they have browns in Lake Billy Chinook maybe they wonder up the Metolius occasionally?
@@flyfishingwithphil7676 Good call. That definitely sounds like it could be the case. I might check with ODFW on that.
Great video love that river its the river i learned to fly fish on. Is that true golden stone or a chubby Chernobyl

I really love the fall colors there. Great footage and nice catches 👍 😊
Thx! Yeah, the colors were bonkers over there again!! 🙏
Superb video! Amazing to see that nice brown!
Totally! Makes me wonder if it would be worth targeting browns there at all in the future. Thx for watching!
U started reeling when the fish wanted to run ?
Yeah, looks like I should have been more patient. Next time!
Where do u go to fish it I have not found a good spot yet

nice!
