I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Hon'ble MLA Achumbemo sir for his recent efforts in addressing the long-standing concerns and grievances of our people regarding reservations in our state during the State Assembly session on August 28, 2024. In his speech, he mentioned that Longkhim and Chare are considered advanced tribes, but this classification seems to be based solely on educational achievements. It is true that, in terms of education, we have made significant strides and are not lacking behind when compared to other regions, particularly in terms of population ratios. However, when it comes to overall development, our situation is quite different. Despite our achievements in education, Longkhim remains one of the most underdeveloped areas in terms of infrastructure, roads, and communication facilities. Although we have an elected MLA, it sometimes feels as though we are a lamb in tiger's clothing, appearing strong but lacking the necessary power and support to effect real change. Longkhim town, established in 1954, still suffers from a lack of development, primarily due to the deplorable condition of its roads and infrastructure. Therefore, I would like to pose a direct question to the Hon'ble MLA: How can it be said that the 52 AC Longkhim constituency is not one of the most backward areas in Eastern Nagaland? While we may excel in education, the overall development of our region is sorely lacking, and it is the responsibility of the government to address this imbalance. The people of Longkhim have waited patiently for far too long. It is time for substantial government support to foster the development of proper infrastructure, roads, and communication systems. Only with this kind of commitment can we hope to see tangible progress in our community.
Wise question raised by Honble MLA Sir Achumbemo ....in my opinion backward reservation should not be based on tribe basis...rather govt. should identify the backward people based on various factors...reserve the jobs in various govt. sector and let those identified groups compete among themselves....

Look at the list of appointments in Police department released recently that just one example, how many advance tribe and backwards are there, after filling all from backdoor and now talking about problem of reservation.

Reservations period should also be set and review from time to time..
