Pitt River solo first descent

- In the fall 2019 after a complicated trip to Tibet and an unpleasant overnighter on the Sum Khosi in Nepal, I decided to embark on my second big solo adventure. The idea was to wait for low water levels in British Colombia and attempt the first descent of the Pitt River. Not knowing what to expect on the first steep sections I wanted low water, but obviously not that low ! The cold temperatures and snow falls in the alpine during the hike in made the river drop even more, and I sure did not find any sort of good whitewater on the upper parts. But you never really know until you go and that's part of exploratory kayaking.
Although I managed to maced myself with bear spray bushwalking on day 2 • Bear Spray & Blizzards... , the rest of the trip was an amazing experience. And it forced me to push myself both mentally and physically.
I can't thank enough my friend Crista Wiles for supporting me despite disapproving. Danny Campo for the ride out, and the Vancouver people for the snacks.
This young woman is the Alex Honnold of the whitewater world. The kinds of things she does may even exceed his Free Solo accomplishment. He had full reconnaissance for the amazing solo up El Cap. A first river descent is vastly different. The canyon she enters at 13 minutes or so was largely blind and un-scoutable, and just one of the high-risk places she navigated. Breathtaking.
She is incredibly courageous; amazingly skilled. Visionary, really.
She's one of the great adventurers of our time. There are so few truly wild places left on the planet. Many of them are rivers. Few have the skill and guts to get to them like Nouria does.
For a person to be so humble, kind, and thoughtful while being so incredibly ferocious on the river is truly astounding. It's an amazing first descent, your reading and running skills are a joy to watch. Fantastic video production all the way around. I loved this!
Thank you for living a life most of us can only imagine…and recording it, and then editing it, and then sharing it!
I couldn't believe what you did here, crossing from Whistler over Garabaldi Glacier, dropping down into the upper Pitt and Kayaking down to the lake! Wow! It would be tough enough in the summer! I know that country and it is pretty wild but I knew that you would be ok when you got down to the Hot Spring. I was a little confused when you thought you could drive to Vancouver from there. Had you not planned how to get out? (There is only a logging road from the Hot Spring to the Lake.) That was quite an achievement, my hat is off to you.
I love to see when you set up to camp
Wow. only about 3/4 into this video. you are crazy. and so so fun to watch. what an adventure.
I love those bump and gride boulder creeks and rivers. Girl you're hard core. Reminds me of me when I was younger. 👍
She’s the best 🙌
I paddled with Dave Wortman today and he told me about this video. Really enjoyed watching this. I love your spirit.
What an awesome trip! That canyon was rad! Love seeing other folks do solo missions;)
Awesome video! I’ve lived nearby my whole life and always wondered what the upper Pitt river looked like. Glad to see you met some friendly Canadians along the way!
Amazing adventure, I wouldn’t do this without having to lug a kayak around.
Such a champion you are wow great adventure in you
Just WOW! The hike alone amazed me. What determination! And that you were solo in the middle of nowhere on the water... Best video I've seen in a long time. Subscribed for sure! Thanks for taking us along!
`you are a true power house. im amazed. And inspiration!
This is just so badass Nouria!
You are a G.I. Jane of kayaking. 100% Respect!!!
Great adventure! I’m right with you. Gotta do these things! ❤️🌹
That was incredible. Paddling alone on shallow rocky water like that is committing. Great footage.
This is insane. You must have blown those peoples minds when you showed up at the hot pools haha
I've missed watching your videos - amazing adventure ❤
Great video! Nobody showcases my country better than whitewater kayakers.
Without a doubt one of the most hardcore paddlers out there currently. Nouria may be small but she can do it all!
I saw you interviewed in another video while you were in an Alpacka Valkyrie boat, I think. I bet you wish you had that on this trip. The pack rafts seem very cool for hike in adventures.
Un grand merci pour le partage de tes aventures et un grand bravo à toi pour ta force de caractère. TROP BIEN
super impressive. loved watching this.
You are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing the adventure. I’d love to see more expedition videos like this.
sorry, I can't quit commenting. i first saw you on that documentary when you and those guys ran some crazy river (I think in S. America). that was insane and intense.
Now that is what is called rock hopping. Nice to see you camping as well.
With all the stones at the beginning, I would have swum continuously. But it's a very beautiful landscape and great impressions. Many greetings ronactive
What a stunning scenery to push yourself. You have so much courage to risk that alone in those cold water temps. You are an inspiration. I nearly drowned in a rock garden due to an equipment failure and have battled to get back...but these videos remind me of why we do this as kayakers. Thank you!
I Live in the area and have hiked some of the Garibaldi area seen and paddled up Pitt Lake a distance. I cannot fathom the effort this took. I don't kayak, but this was rad to watch! Well done!
Wow, you are a different level of tough Nouria. Respect!
Just amazing, and casually coming across a family with a helicopter who probably thought ‘yeah this is supposed we remote we won’t see anyone here’
Amazing woman! Definitely a perfect example of true female stamina, power, strength, and courage! Thank You for sharing your adventures with the world!
Beautiful filming and videography of a seldom visitied area of BC. You have joined a select group of adventure people from BC like John Clarke. :) Including the cursed legend of Slumachs lost gold mine. Be safe. :)

when you're ready and it's your decision but you need to have babies, lots of them, the character and sense of adventure you showed is what society needs more of . . . "where did you come from? . . . Whistler . . .", priceless.

Your long vids 🔥
What month did you do this in? Curious about the ideal water level for this river
Nouria, you come back to Jackson Kayak?
No it was from 2019. I am so much happier with the Waka designs
@@NouriaNewmanKayak i remember that you change to Waka. Congrats from Brazil.
Gawd damn! You are a savage. You might be good at ultra marathon running if you ever lose the love for the river.Come to U.S. and do Bull Lake creek in Wyoming, you’ll love it if you like the Pitt.
I definitely want to paddle bull lake creek some days
I think packraft is the best boat for this trip and this river))
12:55 that moment when an ass kicker of a trip is all worth it, we've all been there, I hope!
Thank you for this video. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you You Tube. This comment is from a “Hindu” man whose name is Gautam Tolat.
