A common misconception people get about this movie is Elizabeth’s corset. The movie isn’t implying that they were worn that way, Elizabeth just wasn’t used to wearing that particular kind of corset (it’s imported from Paris where they were worn to be cinched around the waist). Her maids likely put it on incorrectly and put it on too tight.
Jack's run is cause he has a permanent case of sea legs. When your out at sea the boats rocking so you're always trying to stay balanced, eventually you get used to it but when you come ashore your body feels like it's still swaying. That's why Jack walks fine on boats but on land he walks like he does.
15:33 It always surprises me a little how many people dont immediately recognize this as a totally fantastical idea because it would never work in real life 😂 Fun and creative idea for a movie that involves fantasy elements anyways, but in real life that’s way too much air and they would float to the surface. I dont blame people, not everyone grew up going to the beach every weekend or had access to a swimming pool. But just from general experience, even trying to take a bucket of air to the bottom of the swimming pool was quite difficult and took like 3-4 of us kids to manage. The body is naturally quite buoyant on it’s own, especially if you’re holding your breath and the bucket of air on top of it makes it quite the challenge to take it to the bottom. And that was just a bucket. That much air in a (wooden as well) dinghy they would definitely float to the surface 😆
Shout out to Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbossa), such and awesome actor and character! It's just mind blowing to see him and Johnny Depp share the screen... Top tier.
In Disneyland there was a ride called the Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a boat ride in a tunnel and it was there since the 60's. This movie is based on that ride
The old-school animatronics had a real janky and weird way of moving. Johnny rode the ride dozens of times, and based Jack's quirky arm and head movements off the characters in the ride.
Grew up in California so I’ve been to Disneyland a dozen+ times since I was a little kid. Pirates of the Caribbean was always hands down my favorite ride. I’ve loved pirates in general since I was a little girl growing up on the Goonies and various other pirate media. Other kids wanted to be a firefighter when they grew up, or a ballerina, or an astronaut. All I ever wanted to be was a pirate 😂 As you can imagine I was pretty excited when these movies first came out, lol
"Take what ya can, give nothin' back...." I absolutely DO NOT care what anyone says, Johnny Depp was and IS the only actor who can effectively give Captain Jack Sparrow his piratey swagger.
The exchange between Norrington and Jack - 'One small act is not enough to redeem a man' 'But it is enough to condemn him...' - is the biggest hint at Jack's backstory we get. It's never fully explained, but Jack's origin is the connective tissue between the first 3.
it was super interesting when johnny depp was in court and talked about his creation of this character as a sort of cartoon character that operates somewhat outside of normal physics, like the road runner or similar.

It is an excellent movie, based on two of the novels from an excellent series of novels. For years Russell Crowe wanted to get a sequel made, but the thing was, he really wanted it to be directed by Peter Weir, who directed the first, and Peter Weir just has no interest in doing sequels.

a few things about this movie just made no sense to me. If the pirates could walk on the bottom and the gold calls to them why were they so worried if she dropped it over the side? More over, if neither jack or barbosa can die.. whats the point of fighting?
The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise are my favorite movies. I love all 5 of the movies. You can never have too much Captain Jack Sparrow or Barbosa. Also if you do watch the sequels the 2nd movie Dead Man's Chest and the 3rd movie At World's End are two parts to one whole story. Kind of like how they split the 7th Harry Potter movie The Deathly Hollows into two parts but it's one whole story. The 4th movie On Stranger Tides and the 5th movie Dead Men Tell No Tales are like the 1st movie The Curse Of The Black Pearl where they're all one movie stories.

If you're looking for any really good early Depp films, check out Benny and Joon. Not talked about a lot these days, but I've never known anyone who's seen it and not liked it.
This is a fun and wild swashbuckling adventure film! Originally Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but had to drop out in order to make Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can, both released in 2002. Hugh Jackman, Michael Keaton, Robin Williams,Harrison Ford, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Matthew McConaughey, and Cary Elwes were considered for Jack Sparrow until Johnny Depp was picked. Ben Peyton, Christian Bale, Chris Masterson, Tobey Maguire, and Jude Law were considered for Will Turner. Amanda Bynes, Jessica Alba and Jaimie Alexander were considered for Elizabeth Swann. Tom Wilkinson RIP, and Sylvester McCoy of Doctor Who fame, were considered for Governor Swann.
You dont know pop movies, but if know pop music, Depp's character is nothing but his pal Kieth Richards (The Rolling Stones) in a pirate suit!😅 Good choice & great acting, but funny as hell! ✌️🌎❤️
Yeah, that last monkey scene was added to make the sequel. This movie was great without that. The sequel make the 1st movie pointless. Great move, sequels ruined it.
Trivia for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (for James and anybody else interested in knowing) - Released in 2003; directed by Gore Verbinski; written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. - Nominated for 5 Oscars: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow); Best Makeup; Best Sound Mixing; Best Sound Editing; Best Visual Effects. However, it didn't win in any category. At the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, Johnny Depp won the award for Best Actor. - Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) was fresh off the British soccer movie "Bend It Like Beckham" the previous year, and did the Christmas film "Love Actually" later in 2003. - The film was based on the attraction found at Disney theme parks. - Filming took place both on sound stages in Los Angeles, and primarily in the Caribbean island nation called Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. - This is the first Disney film to be rated PG-13 by the MPAA. - Curse of the Black Pearl grossed $654.3 million, making it the fourth-highest grossing film in 2003. - Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy), Heath Ledger (the son from "The Patriot"), and Christian Bale (the twin magician from "The Prestige") were considered for the role of Will Turner before Orlando Bloom was cast. Bloom auditioned after it was recommended to him by Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa), while the two were doing another film together. Bloom was also doing the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy at the same time, so his name would have had some weight to it. - The role of Captain Jack Sparrow was originally written for Hugh Jackman (also from "The Prestige" as the magician who can clone himself) However, since Jackman is Australian, Disney executives felt he wouldn't have enough name recognition. - Johnny Depp based his performance primarily off of Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, after Depp did research on 18th-century pirates and discovering there was a "rock star" vibe to them. It was Depp's idea for Jack Sparrow to have gold teeth. - Depp was also excited that Jonathan Pryce was cast as Governor Swann; Depp is a fan of Pryce's work.

These are great movies. They're definitely ones where you have to watch the first three. You'll get mixed responses on if 4 and 5 are worth it, but while not as good as the first three, they're still solid pirate/action/comedy movies.
Def a thumbs...
You can watch this movie any number of times, and enjoy it every time. 😄
Can’t wait for this series!!
another great reaction. It's like watching a movie with my neighbor in Indiana (kinda close to Iowa--same amount of corn lol),
I have a sterling replica of the skull ring Sparrow wear. It's so cool.
Disney messed up by letting this franchise die. 😂
Another good one James, fun franchise for sure
They need to make pirate an Olympic event I bet who ever competes will win
If you like movies about sailing ships and sea battles you should watch Master and Commander. It's more historical and ultra-realistic.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
M&c was one of the first books other than Harry Potter i read in english. That was a mistake as every other word was some ultra specific sailing term that i couldn't find in my dictionary
I still love Johnny Depp! This is such a great movie and there is no other Capt Jack Sparrow but Johnny Depp!
Great reaction
Ex-wife is Amber Heard and im so happy Johnny came out of it better then she did.
First time in a while you post a reaction I wanna see
If you're looking for any really good early Depp films, check out Benny and Joon.
Mythbusters says the canopy trick is impossible they wrong the physics is real just requires super human strength to hold the boat underwater
oh really. That's interesting
It's a crime that your parents never got to take you to Disneyland.
Need to watch Kingdom of Heaven really good fighting scenes
You’ll enjoy this movie. I like it too but the second is my fav.
You should watch GAME OF THRONES if you havent already
I've read all the books twice, I pretty much know what happens except for the end.
You dont know pop movies, but if know pop music, Depp's character is nothing but his pal Kieth Richards (The Rolling Stones) in a pirate suit!😅
Good choice & great acting, but funny as hell!
✌️🌎❤️
I LOVE PRETENDING TO BE "Captain, Jack Sparrow"! As it were! Captain Smokey Jokey!
I used to run around the house, to do something, like how Jack runs, just to make my girlfriend laugh
Other great Johnny Depp movie - What's eating Gilbert Grape
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Poll was swords bows and arrows? So why not pic legolas? Oh this is diet legolas
You can see the LOTR tattoo on Orlando Bloom's wrist during the fight scene at the blacksmith's.
While the next two movies are pretty good this one stands alone. If this was the only one to come from the series I'd be happy.
Please react to the others, there's four more.
Need to see the South Park episode 'Fat Beard'
Yeah, that last monkey scene was added to make the sequel. This movie was great without that. The sequel make the 1st movie pointless. Great move, sequels ruined it.
A pirates life for mine
Trivia for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (for James and anybody else interested in knowing)
- Released in 2003; directed by Gore Verbinski; written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.
