Very helpful. I bought too many tubes of paint and am overwhelmed. I will follow your directions and for now put aside all but one set of primary colors, black, and white. Thank you!
I look forward to every video you share! I have learned so much from you. Thank you Louise for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and talent. I love your book. Your paintings are Beautiful and Interesting. You are The Best! ❤️ Jalyne in Utah
I have heard bits and pieces of this kind of information from multiple sources - but this was so nice to see and hear it in one place. I can't wait to play with colour!
Thanks for this. There seems to be such a split between artists who have tons of colours on their palette and mix colours like scientists and then artists who use a very limited palette who seem to have a more intuitive approach with a few basic rules they follow. How do you know where you are as an artist- you know, which works best? I guess you just have to try it out. I find also that different artists on RUclips describe glazing differently as well. Some say it’s a transparent layer of colour that changes the tones subtly of the colour underneath. Others say it’s just another thin layer of initial colour on top of a monochromatic value painting of the subject already laid down. Man, it gets confusing trying to figure out what is what with oil painting. Thanks for offering some simple recommendations to follow.
I used to go all out with colour and I’ve had to learn the long and hard way by years of experimenting. However, my art still appears very colourful but now I know what works. I really could have done with Louises’ advice at the start! 😆
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🎨 There is a fairly new acrylic paint set called “12 shades of gray” and it has 12 tubes of colors already greyed down. I love the set. Search online for it, it may be available in your area. Nice pinks, yellows, blues, lavenders. Inexpensive.
Hola Louise, te veo desde España con traductor automatico. Estoy enganchada a tus vídeos porque aprendo muchisimo. Mil gracias por tu ayuda con todo y en este vídeo le has dado mucha luz a mis dudas. Qué pena no poder hacer tus cursos. Es un buen motivo para aprender inglés 😄😄💖
Ah but it is. Or rather, it's not even necessary. "Color theory" is a term bandied around ti make some people feel superior and some feel left out. There is a much simpler way to learn colour - I hate colour theory but I am amazing with colour :)
Wonderful Louise!!!
Thanks!
Excellent advice Louise! I wish I’d been told this at the start of my painting career, it would have saved a lot of time and angst!🥰x

So glad!
Thank you for your helpful advice! Much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
I seem to like work which uses the colour wheel with tertiary colours. The colour wheel gives so much good information.
It is one way to go for sure :)
Really helpful. Thank you Louise.

Thank you Louise, it gets so confusing, complicated when it doesn’t have to.
That's right!

Fantastic video Louise. Thank you! I’m curious, you call yourself an abstract painter. Most at your level would call themselves an abstract artist…? 🤔
Thank you!! Wonderful information 🙂

Because colour theory isn't simple?
Mocking the person asking the question is not an answer.
Why do you bother with your negative and unhelpful comments?
