    To give more context about this time period: This is actually similar gameplay to how I played a lot of that year, the only difference being which matches were and weren't recorded, and/or which were uploaded to the internet or not, so I have less credibility than I should have had for that year due to pure bad luck in that aspect (I've said this many times, but it gets memed on because I can't prove it, or have less data to prove it than I should have had). IMO my best performance this year was the 9-0 vs ChuDat/PC Chris in LF/GFs of FC:Diamond the week before this, where I had crowd cheering and strong mental state, and managed to get multiple 2 and 3 stocks on them (low % with both of the 3 stocks on each player actually), making that tournament my best lifetime performance against both Chu Dat and PC Chris. I was really excited at how I played during that tournament, and couldn't wait for the matches to be uploaded online so I could show the world how great I can be at my best, only to find out that the videos were not properly saved, and would never be uploaded. I became extremely devastated and depressed after learning about that (but I didn't learn about it until a few weeks or months after it happened), since 90% of the reason I played was to show the world how great I was or could be. I'm not lying when I say that I played better at the end of that tournament than half the sets I played a decade later, and I'm not speaking only relatively either. I believe it's because I was solely focused on Melee then, without Brawl (which game out 7 months later) or other games (or life goals like college or anything else etc) to distract me from my goal of being as good as I could be at Melee at that time. Will elaborate more when my book comes out (yes it is still happening eventually 100%, I've just been focused on so many other things lately, so it's significantly more delayed than expected).

      @@kingarthur3236 okay and? That doesn’t take away from how good he was back then, even the best of the best don’t win every single tournament. You don’t see MkLeo three stocking all of his opponents and winning every super major tourney

    • @TheRealMew2king
      @TheRealMew2king 3 года назад +236

      Another thing to note is that oldschool Melee was on "vanilla" Melee, so things like consistent dash back, pivots, shield drops etc were all not possible (this is why things like spotdodge were a bigger part of the game because you could risk missing dashback randomly and get shield grabbed just from bad luck. Doing what Zain does for example (the best of both worlds with dashback and pivots) is 100% not possible in most of Melee's lifespan[2002-2016/18] basically because of vanilla Melee restrictions (UCF/Slippi recodes the game to make dashback work on any controller with no luck involved). Since we're all spoiled nowadays by things such as UCF, Slippi, controller modders, and free access to information and various resources (can simply look up the "correct answer" by watching another pro do something), it's likely hard for most to imagine the limitations/restrictions of the past, in both what can be done consistently and free access to information.
