It’s fascinating tbh Edit: By hilarious, I mean ironic to the point of surreality because so many guys who would actually (probably) perpetrate a hate crime against a gay kid here do things that could be considered actual gay activity, for jokes or not. Im American and when I first got into kpop I was so confused because I've never seen guys heavy into pda on camera. I would think 2 guys were gay in a group then I would see those guys all over the other guys. Now I realize it's the culture. In America the lines are CLEARLY drawn. Like holding eye contact for 3 seconds means your down for the get down.
I think it’s definitely in the eyes for girls too. I can tell when a girl is just complimenting me or when she’s interested. Their eyes linger more, especially if they start looking at your lips a lot. If it’s just a glance it isn’t a big deal but if you find someone attractive you’re more likely to gaze at their lips often 😊
8:46 it's called groupism, and there's a lot of social closeness and lack of personal boundaries in many Asian countries like Korea and Japan. Not sure about China, but I'm sure it's similar there because it tends to have a lack of personal space too (population numbers and use of space for housing). I'm still always surprised at my J students (junior high) and how much they touch each other, sometimes the guys sitting on top of each other or hugging each other which is clearly not done in the US as much. Maybe it's more common in the US now?? There's also hitting among J students, even on butts lol.
This is so interesting! I think it possibly also has something to do with how a lot of western countries are very individualistic and promote independence and making something of yourself entirely by yourself and not relying on (or thinking too much about) others, whereas a lot of eastern countries have a more collectivist culture where you rely on others to help you out and in turn are also expected to look after and support others in whatever way, and group cohesion comes above individual needs or wants. There is obviously pros and cons to both cultures but I feel like this could go some way in explaining the differing behaviours.
as a asian american this is split split for me. i'm from myanmar ( burmese ) and with close friends ( from school or non burmese ), i am not at all touchy with. but with my burmese friends and such, i'm very touchy with ; its also normal to smack each others butts and stuff. it's very confusing, i didn't notice this difference until now. with non burmese friends, i would remain my space but with burmese friends we're always bunched up together without a worry or realization and do everything together. it's not like i prefer one over the other so..
Didn't expect to see Jeongro's boyfriend here haha... The content I didn't know I needed but that's actually extremely entertaining and educating Please do more
I'm Caribbean-American so when I lived in Cape Verde and saw men walking hand-in-hand on the street, it blew me away. Yet, it felt really good when I tried it after a few months: beautiful energy flow. I think the local guy was actually straight too.
When I went to Africa on a mission trip, groups of both men and women would hold hands walking down the street. The people held my hands too. America is just a very cold, individualistic place. It was very lonely coming back. If I didn't have debt and family worries, I would live abroad.
Que legal, não sabia disso. Aqui no Brasil os homens costumam se abraçar, mas jamais andam de mãos dadas. No máximo, quando são muito amigos, colocam a mão no ombro um dos outros.
@@anonymousperson8259 Which country in Africa though? Cause in my country, that would get eyebrows raising. I don't think that particularly applies to the whole continent
I love y’all’s flow of conversation. It seemed smooth and like everyone had a chance to speak. The respect and lack of interrupting one another was refreshing. Thanks for the content 🤍😊
I went into a shop the other day and some young guy complimented me on my T-shirt, I looked back at him and thanked him and our eyes met - yeah, he was interested. It's been a while, but I recognized that look. I'm older, not looking for a hook-up, or really anything right now, but it made my day. A lot of communication is exchanged when two gay men's eyes meet.
That's sweet, I do that a lot to people I don't know regardless of their gender. I wouldn't say I am actually interested, but definitely would only compliment people I like in any way.
The good thing I highlight abt men in Korea is that they’re close between them and if they’re openminded they aren’t gonna think if they touch, hug or kiss themselves they have to be “gay”, It’s just that feel comfortable between them. Also it’s good to know that some of the non accepted things they mention among guys are normalized in Korea.✨ Excuse my English, pls correct me if I’m wrong, thx.😅🌹
I get what you're saying. During my visit to India I saw a lot of guys out and about holding hands, or hugging (like little girls in the playground) but no one gave them another look, except me since I wasn't used to seeing that kind of interaction between straight men.
I remembered a korean variety show were Henry lau from super junior thought that all member of super junior is gay cuz they always hit the butt of each other .haha later on he realized that it's normal in korea
@@19nopeit’s very ironic cuz Korean guys have always been very comfortable with physical contact with one another, and mindful about things like skin care. They were ridiculed as “gay” in the US, not even that long ago. Really shows how close minded and homophobic the US was not so long ago, but never fails to be the first to criticize lmao
Weirdly, Asia is generally more conservative with like LBGTQ+ and other issues. But when it comes to friendship between men, a lot of things, i feel like, are more acceptable lol. In indo, my guy friends fixes each other hairs, go to the bathroom, hits butts, plays nipple pinch jokingly lol
Thanks. This is enlightening. A few of the things they mentioned I had also picked up as a straight person observing gay friends and colleagues before and after they came out so back in the day I would say my gaydar was pretty darn good. Sometimes i can tell even from a video or even a photograph. Another thing is those who havent come out tend to have limited social media presence to their friends and family (meaning no soc media account or if there is one it is inactive or dead simply because they actually have another secret account where they conduct their secret activities and they tend to post very expicit sexual stuff in them too or meet others using these accounts. There is a network amongst their community and they tend to want to rent houses together or move around job circles using this network. Those who havent come out then to be opaque and vague about their social activities in regular conversations. At work esp in female dominated industry like mine you will find the male bosses hiring attractive younger male subordinates and that is usually an indication if other things isnt yet obvious enough. The checking other guys out, esp lingering eye contact is also a dead giveaway. Even for split second longer as generally straight men never catch each other's eyes nor do they tend to rubberneck other guys on the street. No matter how good looking or well built.
It is kinda fascinating that most of Korean guy's experience and stereotypes he shared are common in India 🇮🇳 too. Like sharing earpods or going to toilet together or smacking on ass is fairly common. Never thought about those seriously but now that I do. I don't think the earring on only right ear means gay applies on India.
LOL I JUST PICTURED the scene in my head: a straight friend going up to him, smacking his buttocks and he stops to say "Do you like it?" Full of pride lol LOVE IT! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
As long as it doesn't cross the line and everyone is in on the joke then I think stereotypes like these can be fun and silly but obviously it doesn't apply to everyone. Funny video:)
11:29 Von is so right with the eye thing is so true. I don’t know how to explain it but as soon as he did it, we(gays)all knew because it just is. Lesbians do it too it’s just hard to explain
The random Teemo laughs trough out this entire video keep scaring me, Also the korean guy looks, behaves and talks the least gay, which says alot about american gay people lol, I'm also asian and gay and I'm really not used to the American way of "gay". Visually i wear baggy clothes, have a similar hairstyle as the korean guy and look like your most basic dude out there
Yeah, I Will never know if any of my friends are gay. The Asian way to joke is very different and not at all stereotypical. I always ask, never assume 😅
I think you guys should make this a series of these cause it keeps getting better and I also love this channel for supporting the LGBT people for who they are and have a good day!
Are we not talking about that they put a pic of "yoo ah in" as a gay haircut resemble 😭😭 btw he is a Part of the community himself (not confirmed but everybody knows that he has a boyfriend)
10:23 I had this happened to me once too at work. Im not out to my colleagues but I act a little gay sometimes, and this guy (who acts like typical straight handsome popular guy) kept staring at me and inviting me to team dinners and so on. Not to be narcissistic but yeah I’m somewhat forcibly good looking/average looking. But he always compliments pretty girls and checks them out in front of his colleagues. Then one time during a team dinner we sat together and he purposely placed his knee against mine for a good 7-8 minute and throughout the whole time he was throwing glances at me to see my reaction. But Im the type to be extremely shy around my crushes, so I didn’t really react much to it except to leave my leg there so our legs would stay in contact. After that night things didn’t really progress much though he did continue to pay attention to me etc. we were reshuffled into different departments (our company was huge MNC) and we slowly lost contact. 4.5 years later we’re both in different companies now and I still think about him from time to time lol
This is some quality tea right here; the kind you can pair with a blanket and be super cozy. Also, I LOVE that they used Teemo's laugh at 5:36. It fits the vibe so well!
the earing one is so true! when my father was a kid in the 80s(Sweden) he got a earing at his dad and when he got home to his mom and showed her she was like, ARE YOU SURE ITS ON THE LEFT NOW!? because it was really seen as gay to have one in the right but really popular in the left, my dad didnt care but he did get it in the left
I know the earring thing used to be a sign until like the 90s when it became a fashion thing, and then it became a norm to have both ears pierced.. The "signs" are so cute, definitely the delicate wrist and lingering eye contact cuz that's a pickup line no matter your sex 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
the korean man IS FUCKING HOT he should be a model, an idol, or just someone famous so we can see his pretty face more often. I wish he'll marry a handsome boy in the future an be happy ever after
When he said Colorful skinny jeans I knew right away he was talking about how SHINee made the trend of wearing colorful skinny jeans the "it" thing lol
Times have changed a lot. When we had to hide who we are, eye contact or secret smiles we signals. Now I have no idea, been to a gay club and accidentally hit on a straight guy, I was so embarrassed. He was definitely offended.
Almost everything they said is quite normal in Spain, everyone does it. For me is weird to say that depending on how you look like or what you do you are gay or you could be. Here you don't know anything until you ask, because even when you think someone might be lgbtq you could be so wrong
@Trinity M That's most places actually. At the end of the day though, if you're judging whether someone is gay just because they wear skinny jeans, have coloured hair or are affectionate towards other males, then you're an idiot
This seem wild to me. Cause even as a bi guy a lot of these seem pretty normal to me and I see it between my straight friends, coworkers, and random people like online and tik tok who identify as straight. But it also depends on the setting. I've been called handsome at like church and stuff, but yeah among friends and peers its more common just to say "you looks good today" or compliment their outfit. Skinny jeans were a huge trend a few years ago and I even had a straight friend trying to get me to buy a pair for myself cause he said I didn't dress in style enough. My pastor even wore them sometimes. They just weren't for me personally. I see straight guys with earings in either ear or both now. I even see straight guys with the one dangly earing and eyebrow piercings. So I font think of it as a sign anymore these days. I don't really pay much attention to peoples bang so I don't have to much of a say in this one. I share headphones with my straight friends all the time tho. And I've seen my straight friends do it with each other, and straight coworkers do it. Pop music could be a bit of a sign like they said if there's a lot of like Arianna Grande, Lady Gaga, or like they claim to be a Barb. But just in general or mixed in with other types of music I don't think its anything particularly gay these days. Now asking a guy to go to the restroom sounds super strange to me and thats the only one on this list I agree with. But not even so much its gay, just more strange. And I can't tell you how many times straight guys have slapped my butt or talked about how big it is since high school and playing sport up to coworkers over a decade later. Some where gay or questioning, but most are straight and its like a joke. One time I even went to my friends party and was meeting his girlfriend for the first time and he squeezed my butt cheeks right in front of her 😂😂
I’m almost 33. I was a college soccer player. The straight boys were WILD in the locker room. Something about the clothes coming off and being with “the guys.” Free show for me. 😂
Nice, fun video to watch. Keep it up guys 🙌 I think it’s very relevant to know the queer culture cultural differences when in different countries. It’s also very interesting to think about them.
About the air pods I think it's because people who are a bit older still think of it as sharing wired earphones instead of bluetooth. That would be more romantic because it's kinda like a literal connection and you gotta stay close and move carefully because of the length of the wire. Aldo it's been used as a romantic thing in pop culture ever since ear phones became a thing
A quick correction on your subtitles. To compliment someone is to say something nice to or about that person. To complement is to complete, as in "This new rug really complements the room."
Gen Z bromance confuse me because im not sure if they are gay or just very confident in their sexuallity. At work, i have male co worker whom tease each other flirtatious joking, but all of them have girlfriends.
I think it’s so funny how different our cultures are. We worship individualism here in the US and we look down on people for being intimate with eachother. I’ve always been jealous of Asian cultures because of this. I’m hoping America can graduate to skinship in the future.
As an openly BI person, I do recognize a lot of these things with gay men. I, myself, do the limp wrist, rolling eyes, skinship touchy feely, and also recognize longer than average eye contact. I have been doing that since as young I have one piercing on my right year only. I also have very long hair. I am very in touch with my feminen side. While I find men very sexually attractive, I lean most toward Asian women. I wound up moving to Korea and I now I am with my fiance (of over 3 years), who is a lovely Korean woman. But, listening and watching this made me chuckle. All of these gentlemen are very handsome and carry themselves well. :)
Loool i'm from the north of Mexico and here the guys who wear skinny jeans are heterosexual, those who wear another cut of jeans are considered gay, it's completely the opposite hahahaha.
-they are not gay anymore, they just used to be gay, not anymore HAHAHAHAAHAHAH -how´s his hair, it´s pretty GAY HAHAHAHHAA That guy made me laugh so much
Dated a guy with ears pierced, nailpolish and long bangs and I assumed he was a bit fruity but when we talked about it he said he was straight lmao my gayday was way off
I think American and korean gay culture is totally different this is y lots of Americans and other people r thinking some kpop guys are gays 🤷🏻♀️ i badly want them to watch this ❤️ they explained clearly ❤
@ThvGguk @Briana Jeongro is Sanghoon's boyfriend. He is very popular online (as is Sanghoon somewhat). Since Jeongro is well known, his fans know of his relationship
In Germany the right ear is also the "gay" ear. I found out about that because my boyfriend really wanted to pierce his ears and he first did the left ear, for this reason, but since the left ear got infected pretty bad he had to take it out and got his right ear piearced instead. He does plan on piercing his left ear again tho and will probably start wearing earrings on both sides then. Also he is actually bi, but since we are together he initially didn't want to provoke to get hit on by guys because of the earing xD
Just a thing want to say being a bisexual and gay is a different thing. If ur a bi u are interested in both men and women and if any boy is lookin at another boy it doesn't always mean he is gay. And also A boy can love another boy without being called gay and a girl can love another girl without being called lesbian. Love is love and love allows everyone to love. ❤and m also a Bisexual and i respect every gender ❤
6:14 As a lesbian I can confirm. I stayed over at a friend's house and we snuggled on her couch watching anime with our fingers interlaced, snuggled to sleep in her bed, then when we woke up she went downstairs to make us breakfast and when she saw me come into the kitchen she came over and gave me a kiss. Then we ate breakfast shoulder to shoulder on the couch and she gave me a goodbye kiss on the lips, but I'm not sure if she's gay or just really friendly.
that Korean guy was sweet, genuine and honest, - he is natural and not feminine :). Von Usa is so big and there are many states that you can't speak for the whole Usa but from the eyes of your state and a small town boy. they are the opinions of your experience which cannot be said to be the whole of Usa. good luck there. Von has changed. looks like a Christmas tree. but his personality is nice. Being authentic and yourself is the best. at the end of the day no one can say for sure who is gay but usually gays are feminine and walking and body language tells a lot who is what but not always. good luck
This was fun to watch. All are beautiful, but Von is just gorgeous, I saw him on tiktok a few times. US is more individualistic minded, versus many countries love doing things with friends. It doesn’t have to hold meaning Most of these have shocked me. I didn’t know some of them Sharing airpods? Come on. It is just a device. Earrings and specific placements have been part of many cultures. In ancient turkic cultures earring placement on men had meanings (he is an only son. He is an only child in the family and etc). Skinship is acceptable is considered friendly among same gender friends. Men or women. Depends on the culture too, some cultures are too touchy feely in general.
It's very interesting to learn about this kind of topic because so many of these "gay signals" were actual signals for queer people back in the days when you couldn't outright say "I'm gay" so it's a part of the culture!
That's why us lesbians struggle a lot :(

There is obviously pros and cons to both cultures but I feel like this could go some way in explaining the differing behaviours.
I’m from America (NY) and it’s not common to be touchy-feely with people. I wish it was. I always get all cringy when people try to hug me.
as a asian american this is split split for me. i'm from myanmar ( burmese ) and with close friends ( from school or non burmese ), i am not at all touchy with. but with my burmese friends and such, i'm very touchy with ; its also normal to smack each others butts and stuff. it's very confusing, i didn't notice this difference until now. with non burmese friends, i would remain my space but with burmese friends we're always bunched up together without a worry or realization and do everything together. it's not like i prefer one over the other so..

I'm Caribbean-American so when I lived in Cape Verde and saw men walking hand-in-hand on the street, it blew me away. Yet, it felt really good when I tried it after a few months: beautiful energy flow. I think the local guy was actually straight too.
Oh wow! I’m Cape Verdean too!!
@@vonnvoyaj é verdade? I lived in Sal which was more westernized but I saw this behavior in Praia. Love it! I was there for the Peace Corps.

I really liked those three together. They all seem so lovely! I want to see more videos with those 3 together. ^^
Also it’s good to know that some of the non accepted things they mention among guys are normalized in Korea.✨
Excuse my English, pls correct me if I’m wrong, thx.😅🌹
true but at the same time homophobia is common in korea lol
@@19nope yeh ik…that sucks

I loved this video, guys were so chill but also funny, Von was so cool too, and a nice theme for today ☺️
I’m glad you loved it! 😁

It fits the vibe so well!
the earing one is so true! when my father was a kid in the 80s(Sweden) he got a earing at his dad and when he got home to his mom and showed her she was like, ARE YOU SURE ITS ON THE LEFT NOW!? because it was really seen as gay to have one in the right but really popular in the left, my dad didnt care but he did get it in the left
i love this channel💅
I know the earring thing used to be a sign until like the 90s when it became a fashion thing, and then it became a norm to have both ears pierced..
The "signs" are so cute, definitely the delicate wrist and lingering eye contact cuz that's a pickup line no matter your sex 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️

Times have changed a lot. When we had to hide who we are, eye contact or secret smiles we signals. Now I have no idea, been to a gay club and accidentally hit on a straight guy, I was so embarrassed. He was definitely offended.
Uh? Why was he here then? That's why I don't like straight people going to lgbt bar
@@nancym3041 because straight girls and bi girls go to gay clubs so straight guys also go.
3:12 he said "gay guys love wearing skinny jeans" the man next to him looked down so fast it was kind of funny😭
It was really meaningful things and interesting stuff to share, thank you! I like it!
"Free show for me" 💀😂
Nice, fun video to watch. Keep it up guys 🙌 I think it’s very relevant to know the queer culture cultural differences when in different countries. It’s also very interesting to think about them.
Everyone looks so good but Von looks super fun!
i'm living only for all the lgbtqia+ content here right now, only thing making me happy these days.. hope it never stops hehe
This video is exactly what I need in my life right now.
A quick correction on your subtitles. To compliment someone is to say something nice to or about that person. To complement is to complete, as in "This new rug really complements the room."
Gen Z bromance confuse me because im not sure if they are gay or just very confident in their sexuallity. At work, i have male co worker whom tease each other flirtatious joking, but all of them have girlfriends.
this makes me feel better, thank you
I think it’s so funny how different our cultures are.

Thanks for an informative video.
This was a nice chat. Interesting things to know. I would not want to make gay friends uncomfortable. Sometimes communication like this helps.

Being authentic and yourself is the best. at the end of the day no one can say for sure who is gay but usually gays are feminine and walking and body language tells a lot who is what but not always. good luck
It would be nice if there is a lesbian panel too.
Saw sanghoon on thumbnail??? Omggg i was shocked 😂
This was fun to watch. All are beautiful, but Von is just gorgeous, I saw him on tiktok a few times.
US is more individualistic minded, versus many countries love doing things with friends. It doesn’t have to hold meaning
Most of these have shocked me. I didn’t know some of them
Sharing airpods?
Loved all three.. really loved Von.. funny guy..😂
