This is glorious, I've been looking for "long distance running techniques" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Hiymelia Ziyddison Scheme - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my colleague got excellent success with it.
The 11 tips :- 1- just start run, have fun, start short 2- nice and easy pace 3- good pair running shoes 4- day off after each run 5- mix up the surfaces, variety 6- go for distance, not time 7- walking is not a failure 8- strecthing light after run 9- join local running club 10- built up gradually, not more 10% rule weekly 11- keep track, log running volume

Actually, once you get to a certain level (not hard, just be consistent) and build your aerobic fitness, it's quite easy to run and talk. 80% of your runs should be running at an easy conversational pace. Once you've achieved that, really the only thing stopping you at that point are your legs get tired.

This really helped me, I really want to start getting fit again, depression and social anxiety have really hurt my physique... Just kind of starting to think it is hopeless seeing as I can’t even run more than 30 seconds. --Little update 2 months after I posted this: I’m struggling way less with sleeping and feel a lot more healthy. The runs I take have improved a lot! I can run for about 2 minutes now and run an walk two minutes each. Mostly I do this for 3 km in at least half an hour. I have struggled with keeping a schedule but I’m still happy with the little improvement I booked! My depression and anxiety are a bit less ( I run in the evening when not a lot of people are outside, so that helps me feel less conscious). I feel more motivated to do other things like hobbies when I keep to my schedule of running every other day. So for people who struggle with depression and anxiety I can safely say that going for a run or at least for a walk will help a great deal to make you feel better. It’s okay if you don’t get the results you would’ve liked just think about how the exercise at least helps you mentally!
Elixanne, Well done on starting. That's the first step. If you suffer from depression and social anxiety it will be a little easier for you to fall into the trap of losing hope if you are failing at any goals you set. That's why it is important you set goals that are achievable and keep you in a positive mind set. The more you do this and progress the easier it will become to stay positive and get better and better in your chosen activity. One of the biggest mistakes people make is coming out of the gate too fast. If you haven't been active in a long time you need to let your body adjust to this new activity you are putting it through. Start very easy and build from there. It sounds like you might be running too fast for starting out. Try to slow the pace to a very slow jog. Even if it feels like you could walk faster if you are going through the action of jogging it feels different to walking and can help prepare the body for a quicker pace. Take your time and don't put pressure on advancement, time or distance. Instead listen to how your body and spirit feel. This sounds strange but the more you try the more in touch you will become. You could be sitting down doing nothing and all of a sudden your mind and body will start wanting to get out and be active. If when this feeling comes you immediately dismiss it with feelings of negativity, like being too tired or not enjoying it and it feeling more like a chore these can be signs you're pushing too hard or training too often. Once you build up over time your body and mind will crave activity in a positive manner and you will want to get out and do it. It takes time. So go slow and stick to goals you feel positive about and never let yourself feel negative if on one day you have to stop or slow down. Just accept that your body wasn't feeling it that day. Go home, stretch and relax and focus on how far you've come. From 30 seconds to wherever you are. I wish you the best with your journey. Stay positive :D
Arkelis thanks for your advice! I bought new running shoes and I started out by going slow paced 1 minute and walk 1 minute. This way I found it far more enjoyable and I actually look forward to taking a run!

@@zainasif3485 because there are usually not many people out. Try to look at your city/town for these times. They are usually in the morning or evening.
I usually do interval running. Like you start off with 5 minute brisk walk for warm up. After that you run for 1 minute; do 2-minute break with 5 reps, all in one week. Than the next week you increase your running time and break time along with reps. If you keep going on like this you'll probably see some major improvement from interval running.
This is what I’m doing to start out. I lost 20 pounds by walking but eventually my body got used to the walking and I needed to walk for an obscenely long time to get the same results, so I’ve started doing 1min run 2min walking sprints and my weight loss has picked up again and I feel so much more fit! I’m slowly increasing the running time and decreasing the walking time.
Distance not time- was the biggest tip i used on the start of my running journey. I wanted to see how far i could go and then my pace got better with time!! Great tips 💪🏾🔥
True! The weekly mileage 10% has been helpful for me, although sometimes I accidentally go way over from a single run. I'm currently focusing on my technique and not worrying too much about time.
I’ve been trying to train for the Army... I have been too focused on my time.. I kept listening to my phone saying my distance every two minutes. I almost hurt myself by doing that. My face blows up red like a tomato. I will start doing the jog/walks like he said. Pace will come. You gave me a good tip. 😌
i accidentally ran 3,26km 2 days ago, it wasn't really fast but it doesn't matter, running is running and i only run for PE (4 times every year) so if i can do it you certainly can.
I would rather get in the habit of even walking outside. Once you do that 2 km won't feel as big and the roads will look smaller even if it takes 20 min to go through one.
I did my first run today and it felt so good.ever since after i left the army i've really been on my butt for the past 2 years and it did no good for me. Came instantly looking for advice and this helped alot, thank you very much. wish me luck!
@@devgupta0804 Ok so I’ve learned a ton from when I first started out, but basically the essential ideas and things you need to follow are: 1. Don’t skimp out on runs and do not get lazy. I saw a bunch of my friends start out strong and well the first few weeks of the season, but later on they get lazy af. That hurt their overall times and blocked them from improving. The key is to work hard on your workouts, soft on your recovery runs. You will see gains and better times in quite a short amount of time. Of course take needed breaks and don’t stress your body. This is the most important tip that I have for you my man. 2. Try to eat healthy/regulate your diet. All I’m saying is that you should pretty much cut out sweets, soda, junk snake n stuff. If running is important to you then you will quickly realize that a bad diet will hold you back, and you won’t even know it. I’d also recommend to stay away from supplements that advertise to increase your performance (they are most likely lying. If you eat the correct amount of macro and micro food groups then you will be just fine). And a last tip for this would be to load on carbs before races, (google why to learn more about carbs and energy use). 3. GET GOOD SLEEP!!! You are most likely a teen, and teens have bad sleeping patterns! Sleep is one of the most important parts of competitive running, it might be the most important! My coach and myself have seen so many track/XC stars who are expected to achieve great times in races, fail so hard because they stayed up to late the night or a couple nights before their race and messed up so badly hahah. I know it’s summer rn, but later, do not ever try to make up the excuse of needing to stay up late for a test also (If you are needing to stay up to study for a test the day before, you already messed up and made bad choices). This is the exact chart that my coaches used in a presentation on sleep, images.app.goo.gl/zkBcecovnHXo6Znr6. It might be hard, but remember that greatness requires sacrifice. 4. Don’t ever give up or get frustrated when you get a bad time or you mess up a workout, running takes time, especially competitive running and you just need to push through until you’re at a good fitness spot. 5. Racing tips: just ask me if you want to hear mine, it’s really hard to type all this on a phone lol. Also keep in mind that I’m a relatively new runner as well, only a sophomore in American highschool so Im pretty young. Good luck with your running journey and remember to work hard. If you are determined enough then you will reach ur goals, no joke bro. 👍👍
started running again about a week ago, today I was feeling insanely motivated so I ran very far. When I finally arrived back at my home, my lower legs started to hurt so bad. Now I sit in my chair and Im barely able to move them. Well.. shit.. Lesson learned I guess..
Just a quick tip, I don't know if you do this already but if you stretch after you run and it can make you feel better in the long run and can help you avoid injury.

I started running recently being somewhat fit a few years back, biggest tip I have is PACE YOURSELF. I started running like I did back then and I was out of breath, had to walk and eventually got injured. Run slowly, walk if you want. It'll DEFINATLEY come eventually, as long as you're pushing yourself, of course :)
Start at any speed, doesn't matter. Set a distance. Run, and don't stop no matter what. Think whatever you gotta think to keep you running. Doesn't matter if your jog comes down a tumbling speed even slower then a walk. DON'T STOP. Your conditioning will go through the roof. Happy trails guys!
Have not run in 8 years. I just do heavy weight lifting. First thing i did was running 8km in 52 min. I was DEAD like for real everything hurt and i was unable to walk for 2 days haha!! When i did my militaryservice i did 10 km in 43 min and could atleast walk the daya after lol. Eddit: can add that im now at 110kg half bodybuilder half strongman compared to my slim 88 when i was 20yo haha.
This has helped me, thank you. Started jogging this week but it's literally been years since I put any pace in my step so every minute I was just stopping and walking for a second. Felt like a failure but as I said I needed this vid to tell me it'll build up. Just need to be consistent.
I've been told by running experts that I need to run slower and walk when I get out of breath. But I get completely out of breath within 30 seconds at a slow 11-minute mile pace. I can almost walk that fast. VERY frustrating.
@@comforth3898 I now do running in the gym when I can be bothered to cardio, don’t go extreme with it either and it’s really helped me out. But it’s the same as everything. I wrote that comment a year ago and I hadn’t been gym. I’ve now been at the gym just over a year now and you’ll realise you keep repeating something eventually it gets easier and you can go next level. 3 months ago I couldn’t do dips at all, now I can do full sets unassisted. Just set your target, don’t give up and take it slow. You’ll notice a change up soon enough. Trust me.
You had no right to feel like a failure, it takes courageous and character to change up the regime and make the conscious effort to get things going. In doing so you inspire others also, well done to you.
He’s right about starting small. I was going through a bad time and thought I’d start doing some running, and I pushed myself to run 4km every day for 4 days in a row. Even though I was a little sore after day 1, and then more after day 2, etc. After day 4 I couldn’t run and my knees were so shot, they were really sore any time I tried more than walking for a MONTH. You can really hurt yourself if you push yourself straight away. Day on, day off like he said. If you haven’t done any exercise in a long time, start off even just walking (at a brisk pace) for a good half an hour-hour at a time, and you’ll even build up a little bit of fitness just doing that.
Thanks for the tips. I just ran the first time in about 2 years or so - it was just 15 minutes, but that’s okay, let’s see how my body reacts. Feels definitely better than just hanging around being lazy 😄
So important to have those days off in between, especially when you're just starting out. Why not try some stretches and core work like pilates on your days off in between, it helps a lot with running and to help go further and be less fatigued. Happy running!
I'm a weightlifter who found a new affinity for sprinting. Overestimated what my body could handle because I was already in shape, ended up with shin splints and bad tendonitis in both knees due to improper shoes and running form. Bought a good pair that helps my overpronation, and will be starting light this time once I'm healed up! Thanks for the advice
His advice of running/walking is great, but his times are for people who already run. Don’t feel bad if you can only run for 30 seconds or a minute at first!!! I started out running 30 seconds and walking 3 minutes to recover. I’m now running 1 minute and walking 2 minutes. I’m slowly increasing the running time and decreasing the walking time. Don’t feel bad if you can’t run for 5 minutes right off the bat! Any amount you can do is a starting point to build from.
Omg same. I ran for the first time yesterday and could only run for 30 secs at a slow pace. I was so dejected and thought - wow this is sooo much tougher than it looks. But I felt good after watching this video and reading the comments that this is normal. Thank you for sharing your experience!
I can vouch for the running shoe thing, I started off jogging in steel toe capped work boots, they were comfortable and kept my feet dry but very heavy and I could only jog a short while, bought some decent trail running trainers, wow!!! What a difference!! Can jog much much further and super light and comfortable
Im currently in the hospital after a Femur fracture surgery and awaiting surgery on my foot, I got in to a motorcycle accident that could have taken my life, Im determined on running 365 days straight as soon as I am fully recovered, Thank you very much for the advice🙌
I just went for my first run in a year of not really exercising and it is tough. It’s hard to accept that I was once able to run way better and now I have to start from the beginning. I want to thank you for the walking tip because after today I real felt like a failure. Hope I’ll have enough motivation to try again in a few days…
Definitely keep trying! Enjoy the journey that you get to take again. You will also have muscle memory from when you did it before so getting back into it should be a little easier. Running is the most therapeutic exercise. Once you get good at it it not only becomes fun but makes you feel really good. It has similar effects on the mind to meditation and does a lot for your mental health. It improves your mood, cognitive function, memory and clarity. Your motivation and overall drive also improve.

I started from 600 meters.. slowly incrased it to 800 and so on.. now after 8months i am a 7k runner. I am regretting because u tube didn't recommended me this channel before. If u it happens before I think I could be way to better runner. Please give me tips if anyone has any..
I used to be a triathlon runner back in high school, over twenty years ago. But haven’t really done any running since. Over the years I’ve become horribly out of shape, so about a week ago I decided to get back into it. I have never been in so much pain. My knees are in absolute agony. I didn’t pace myself at all. I was trying to run everyday, I was trying to push myself further day by day, and only walked when I was completely out of breath. But these tips should hopefully help me from killing myself in a run. Thanks!

I'm a newbie runner, and had a fair few niggles particularly knees, but the one thing I have found most useful is warming-up with a few dynamic stretches before I head out. It makes my runs much more fluid. I have also learnt the importance of slowing down :-)
I have lifted ever since I was 13 (I am going to be 33 in May). But I neglected endurance training all that time and my cardio fitness is complete bollocks. I've started running, but the mistake I keep falling into is doing too much too fast and burning myself out. I have to stop trying to run too much and settle for running really slow and building up so I don't keep falling off the wagon. When you're a lifter, it is all about them gains. But making gains with cardio fitness is a completely different beast than making lifting gains.
I've been smoking pot like every day for 3 years and now I just turn 18. Exactly one year ago from now was when I last smoked. I just started running and forgot how challengingly it can be as you start out.
I used to play basketball and have sprained my ankles and when I run now I reinjure my ankles almost anytime I run. I started wearing work boots and so far it's been really helpful. I also wear knee bands because I tend to injure my knees as well.

I used to run 5k everyday. In about 23 minutes. Helped me in soccer. Now I’m about to get back into running. After some time indulging in some of the wrong foods and lifestyle habits.

Hi, In the last 2 years I’ve been up and down in an ever so irregular rhythm with my exercise motivation. Anxiety, depression and not to mention lockdown have made it really difficult for me to remain consistent in my exercise. I am just now starting my running journey. I am using the treadmill for now. I walked a little to warm up then I started to jog some until I felt I needed to walk again to breathe. I have copd so Im not sure how this will work out but ive been going to the gym for a year now and have tackled all the machines so running is the only other thing I have not tried . I am going to try to get to being able to jog for more than a few mins at a time if I can . It will likely take me a little longer than someone else but hey I am excited to try something new . I really hope I can do it.

I had a fixation surgery two years ago on my hips cause I got into a really bad motorcycle accident. I had difficulties to walk or run properly due to the injury. This injury really took a huge toll on me especially on my mental health. I love to run so much, ever since that surgery I felt so bad about myself, I doubted everything in me. What I did was, after two years of recovery, I started to walk for 30 minutes everyday. And now, I'm still doing the same thing cause I don't have the courage to start running cause I'm too afraid I'd hurt myself especially on my hips. 😭
Why not ride a bike? Takes all the stress off the joints. Get an ebike to remove fear of fitness levels and put you in control of how hard you work. I know you left this comment a while ago, I hope you are doing well and are in control of your health.
I’m so paranoid to start running, like I feel like someone is going to be watching me or ima get kidnapped so that’s why I don’t want to start. I just wanna go out there and jog; I don't have anyone with who I can jog, so kinda always think that they might judge me that my posture is not right, not wearing the proper shoes, clothes, etc yk.

I’ve been suffering chronic fatigue for years, but feel a little better lately, so started trying to run. I can only run for 2-3 minutes at a time so far 🤦🏼♀️ I also run funny 😂
As long as you're out there and exercising you're doing better than all the couch potatoes. Keep trying and it will get better. As for running 'funny' there are plenty of videos on technique on here.
@@MrSkorp10 I ended up buying a mini trampoline in the winter and use it to run and jog on, I now manage a mile of running on it in 10mins. Plus no embarrassing looks from people 🤣

This is a great video ever but you also forgot to mention one important tip...that is runners health conditions such as females with iron or vitamin deficiency could result sever dehydration.. I was hospitalized due to that. My ten cent. Thanks!
Very helpful, thank you! I’ve tried to start running three times now but have gotten hurt everytime. I see now that I was going too hard. ...and not stretching😬 I’ll slow down and make sure to get a day of rest in between. Hopefully this time I’ll be able to keep going!

For the record, "Our local running store" in the US is often times a local shoe store. Be wary. They generally know nothing about the sport and are trying to sell you a product. You'll need a specialty shoe store. Usually.

Well my journey is complete for 2019........ 3 sprints, one olympic and my first ever Half marathon this weekend just gone.... Thats couch to half marathon in 6months with a time of 2hrs 8mins at Oulton park race circuit. it can be done just take`s more time than you think.... Oh and be prepared for the pain of walking up stairs after some sessions as your legs hurt and no amount of foam rollering can stop it :)

Arkelis thanks for your advice! I bought new running shoes and I started out by going slow paced 1 minute and walk 1 minute. This way I found it far more enjoyable and I actually look forward to taking a run!

@@zainasif3485 because there are usually not many people out. Try to look at your city/town for these times. They are usually in the morning or evening.
I usually do interval running. Like you start off with 5 minute brisk walk for warm up. After that you run for 1 minute; do 2-minute break with 5 reps, all in one week. Than the next week you increase your running time and break time along with reps. If you keep going on like this you'll probably see some major improvement from interval running.
Just run and don't stop, doesn't matter the speed. You'll be a pro runner in 10 days. Drink tons of water daily.
This is what I’m doing to start out. I lost 20 pounds by walking but eventually my body got used to the walking and I needed to walk for an obscenely long time to get the same results, so I’ve started doing 1min run 2min walking sprints and my weight loss has picked up again and I feel so much more fit! I’m slowly increasing the running time and decreasing the walking time.

True! The weekly mileage 10% has been helpful for me, although sometimes I accidentally go way over from a single run. I'm currently focusing on my technique and not worrying too much about time.
I’ve been trying to train for the Army... I have been too focused on my time.. I kept listening to my phone saying my distance every two minutes. I almost hurt myself by doing that. My face blows up red like a tomato. I will start doing the jog/walks like he said. Pace will come. You gave me a good tip. 😌

i accidentally ran 3,26km 2 days ago, it wasn't really fast but it doesn't matter, running is running and i only run for PE (4 times every year) so if i can do it you certainly can.
I would rather get in the habit of even walking outside. Once you do that 2 km won't feel as big and the roads will look smaller even if it takes 20 min to go through one.

@@devgupta0804 Ok so I’ve learned a ton from when I first started out, but basically the essential ideas and things you need to follow are:
1. Don’t skimp out on runs and do not get lazy. I saw a bunch of my friends start out strong and well the first few weeks of the season, but later on they get lazy af. That hurt their overall times and blocked them from improving. The key is to work hard on your workouts, soft on your recovery runs. You will see gains and better times in quite a short amount of time. Of course take needed breaks and don’t stress your body. This is the most important tip that I have for you my man.
2. Try to eat healthy/regulate your diet. All I’m saying is that you should pretty much cut out sweets, soda, junk snake n stuff. If running is important to you then you will quickly realize that a bad diet will hold you back, and you won’t even know it. I’d also recommend to stay away from supplements that advertise to increase your performance (they are most likely lying. If you eat the correct amount of macro and micro food groups then you will be just fine). And a last tip for this would be to load on carbs before races, (google why to learn more about carbs and energy use).
3. GET GOOD SLEEP!!! You are most likely a teen, and teens have bad sleeping patterns! Sleep is one of the most important parts of competitive running, it might be the most important! My coach and myself have seen so many track/XC stars who are expected to achieve great times in races, fail so hard because they stayed up to late the night or a couple nights before their race and messed up so badly hahah. I know it’s summer rn, but later, do not ever try to make up the excuse of needing to stay up late for a test also (If you are needing to stay up to study for a test the day before, you already messed up and made bad choices). This is the exact chart that my coaches used in a presentation on sleep, images.app.goo.gl/zkBcecovnHXo6Znr6. It might be hard, but remember that greatness requires sacrifice.
4. Don’t ever give up or get frustrated when you get a bad time or you mess up a workout, running takes time, especially competitive running and you just need to push through until you’re at a good fitness spot.
5. Racing tips: just ask me if you want to hear mine, it’s really hard to type all this on a phone lol.
Also keep in mind that I’m a relatively new runner as well, only a sophomore in American highschool so Im pretty young. Good luck with your running journey and remember to work hard. If you are determined enough then you will reach ur goals, no joke bro. 👍👍
started running again about a week ago, today I was feeling insanely motivated so I ran very far. When I finally arrived back at my home, my lower legs started to hurt so bad.

I started running recently being somewhat fit a few years back, biggest tip I have is PACE YOURSELF. I started running like I did back then and I was out of breath, had to walk and eventually got injured. Run slowly, walk if you want. It'll DEFINATLEY come eventually, as long as you're pushing yourself, of course :)

Start at any speed, doesn't matter. Set a distance. Run, and don't stop no matter what. Think whatever you gotta think to keep you running. Doesn't matter if your jog comes down a tumbling speed even slower then a walk. DON'T STOP. Your conditioning will go through the roof. Happy trails guys!
Have not run in 8 years. I just do heavy weight lifting. First thing i did was running 8km in 52 min. I was DEAD like for real everything hurt and i was unable to walk for 2 days haha!! When i did my militaryservice i did 10 km in 43 min and could atleast walk the daya after lol.
Eddit: can add that im now at 110kg half bodybuilder half strongman compared to my slim 88 when i was 20yo haha.
This has helped me, thank you. Started jogging this week but it's literally been years since I put any pace in my step so every minute I was just stopping and walking for a second. Felt like a failure but as I said I needed this vid to tell me it'll build up. Just need to be consistent.
I've been told by running experts that I need to run slower and walk when I get out of breath. But I get completely out of breath within 30 seconds at a slow 11-minute mile pace. I can almost walk that fast. VERY frustrating.

@@comforth3898 I now do running in the gym when I can be bothered to cardio, don’t go extreme with it either and it’s really helped me out. But it’s the same as everything. I wrote that comment a year ago and I hadn’t been gym. I’ve now been at the gym just over a year now and you’ll realise you keep repeating something eventually it gets easier and you can go next level. 3 months ago I couldn’t do dips at all, now I can do full sets unassisted. Just set your target, don’t give up and take it slow. You’ll notice a change up soon enough. Trust me.
You had no right to feel like a failure, it takes courageous and character to change up the regime and make the conscious effort to get things going. In doing so you inspire others also, well done to you.

I was going through a bad time and thought I’d start doing some running, and I pushed myself to run 4km every day for 4 days in a row. Even though I was a little sore after day 1, and then more after day 2, etc.
After day 4 I couldn’t run and my knees were so shot, they were really sore any time I tried more than walking for a MONTH.
You can really hurt yourself if you push yourself straight away.
Day on, day off like he said.
If you haven’t done any exercise in a long time, start off even just walking (at a brisk pace) for a good half an hour-hour at a time, and you’ll even build up a little bit of fitness just doing that.

So important to have those days off in between, especially when you're just starting out. Why not try some stretches and core work like pilates on your days off in between, it helps a lot with running and to help go further and be less fatigued. Happy running!
I'm a weightlifter who found a new affinity for sprinting. Overestimated what my body could handle because I was already in shape, ended up with shin splints and bad tendonitis in both knees due to improper shoes and running form. Bought a good pair that helps my overpronation, and will be starting light this time once I'm healed up! Thanks for the advice
His advice of running/walking is great, but his times are for people who already run. Don’t feel bad if you can only run for 30 seconds or a minute at first!!! I started out running 30 seconds and walking 3 minutes to recover. I’m now running 1 minute and walking 2 minutes. I’m slowly increasing the running time and decreasing the walking time. Don’t feel bad if you can’t run for 5 minutes right off the bat! Any amount you can do is a starting point to build from.

I can vouch for the running shoe thing, I started off jogging in steel toe capped work boots, they were comfortable and kept my feet dry but very heavy and I could only jog a short while, bought some decent trail running trainers, wow!!! What a difference!! Can jog much much further and super light and comfortable

I just went for my first run in a year of not really exercising and it is tough. It’s hard to accept that I was once able to run way better and now I have to start from the beginning. Running is the most therapeutic exercise. Once you get good at it it not only becomes fun but makes you feel really good. It has similar effects on the mind to meditation and does a lot for your mental health. It improves your mood, cognitive function, memory and clarity. Your motivation and overall drive also improve.

I used to be a triathlon runner back in high school, over twenty years ago. But haven’t really done any running since. Over the years I’ve become horribly out of shape, so about a week ago I decided to get back into it. I have never been in so much pain. My knees are in absolute agony. I didn’t pace myself at all. I was trying to run everyday, I was trying to push myself further day by day, and only walked when I was completely out of breath. But these tips should hopefully help me from killing myself in a run. Thanks!

I'm a newbie runner, and had a fair few niggles particularly knees, but the one thing I have found most useful is warming-up with a few dynamic stretches before I head out. It makes my runs much more fluid. I have also learnt the importance of slowing down :-)

I have lifted ever since I was 13 (I am going to be 33 in May). But I neglected endurance training all that time and my cardio fitness is complete bollocks. I've started running, but the mistake I keep falling into is doing too much too fast and burning myself out. I have to stop trying to run too much and settle for running really slow and building up so I don't keep falling off the wagon. When you're a lifter, it is all about them gains. But making gains with cardio fitness is a completely different beast than making lifting gains.
I've been smoking pot like every day for 3 years and now I just turn 18. Exactly one year ago from now was when I last smoked. I just started running and forgot how challengingly it can be as you start out.

I used to play basketball and have sprained my ankles and when I run now I reinjure my ankles almost anytime I run. I started wearing work boots and so far it's been really helpful. I also wear knee bands because I tend to injure my knees as well.

Hi, In the last 2 years I’ve been up and down in an ever so irregular rhythm with my exercise motivation. Anxiety, depression and not to mention lockdown have made it really difficult for me to remain consistent in my exercise. I am just now starting my running journey. I am using the treadmill for now. I walked a little to warm up then I started to jog some until I felt I needed to walk again to breathe. I have copd so Im not sure how this will work out but ive been going to the gym for a year now and have tackled all the machines so running is the only other thing I have not tried . I am going to try to get to being able to jog for more than a few mins at a time if I can . It will likely take me a little longer than someone else but hey I am excited to try something new . I really hope I can do it.

Strength training helped my running incredibly much too!
I had a fixation surgery two years ago on my hips cause I got into a really bad motorcycle accident. I had difficulties to walk or run properly due to the injury. This injury really took a huge toll on me especially on my mental health. I love to run so much, ever since that surgery I felt so bad about myself, I doubted everything in me. What I did was, after two years of recovery, I started to walk for 30 minutes everyday. And now, I'm still doing the same thing cause I don't have the courage to start running cause I'm too afraid I'd hurt myself especially on my hips. 😭
Why not ride a bike? Takes all the stress off the joints. Get an ebike to remove fear of fitness levels and put you in control of how hard you work.

As long as you're out there and exercising you're doing better than all the couch potatoes. Keep trying and it will get better. As for running 'funny' there are plenty of videos on technique on here.
@@MrSkorp10 I ended up buying a mini trampoline in the winter and use it to run and jog on, I now manage a mile of running on it in 10mins. Plus no embarrassing looks from people 🤣

This is a great video ever but you also forgot to mention one important tip...that is runners health conditions such as females with iron or vitamin deficiency could result sever dehydration.. I was hospitalized due to that.

For the record, "Our local running store" in the US is often times a local shoe store. Be wary. They generally know nothing about the sport and are trying to sell you a product. You'll need a specialty shoe store. Usually.
the difference between a local variety shoe store and a running/exercise store should be pretty obvious tho

Well my journey is complete for 2019........
3 sprints, one olympic and my first ever Half marathon this weekend just gone.... Thats couch to half marathon in 6months with a time of 2hrs 8mins at Oulton park race circuit.
it can be done just take`s more time than you think.... Oh and be prepared for the pain of walking up stairs after some sessions as your legs hurt and no amount of foam rollering can stop it :)
