A glimpse into the history of Prescot, Lancashire:
A song about SPARROW LANE, Prescot.
Celebrating PRESCOT'S rural origins and township heritage.
This road was situated on the north eastern end of the Prescot Township Boundary with Eccleston. The name harks back to at least 1592 when this was rural pasture land between Clay Pit Hey on the left and Sparrow Lane Meadow on the right. At a time when flocks of sparrows would nest in the surrounding hedgerows. At the far end of the lane there is evidence of an ancient medieval PINFOLD, used by the Court Leet for gathering and rounding up stray farm animals.
Sparrow Lane is known as GROSVENOR ROAD today.
