Cali B First of why on earth are you cussing me out? I didn't threw any nasty word towards you so I expect you to extend that very same courtesy to me. Secondly which dark-skinned black female artist has been pushed in the last two decade the way Normani is right now? The answer is none. The last female artist who was pushed that hard and actually was dark-skinned was motherfucking Brandy. Her prime time was at least two decades ago. Each black female artist that was pushed to us in the 00-10 was either light-skinned or biracial. So there weren't dark-skinned black female artists that were "winning" in all these years.

Ppl put too emphasis on being able to sing and hit all kind of high notes. To be honest, I prefer soft voiced singers over the quote on quote "powerhouse" singers. It's not all about "sanging" and riffing and running, and hitting high notes. It's about tone and texture. You don't have to scream into a microphone to make ppl feel what you are saying. I love singers like Janet, Brandy, Sade, Adele, and many others. They don't have to do all that nonsense. Jennifer Hudson, Keke Wyatt, Fantasia, love them but it's hard to enjoy their voices with all that screaming and carrying on that they do. Black ppl love to defend them and say they're just soulful but you can be soulful and not have to scream. I'm surprise they haven't blew their voices out.

100% Agree with all of this. All she needs is more confidence and keep perfecting HER voice, don't worry about anyone else's opinion on your voice. Be the best Normani you can be! Also wish Justine Skye would get more recognition and/or exposure, she beautiful, dark skin, great performer and her vocals have improved. i hoped Kylie could help her career but then the women took Travis from Justine so there goes that. Anyways i love Normani and i hope it continues to go well for her.

So just because we had more representation back in the 90's we should just sit back and allow this to happen? Besides there weren't only dark-skinned artists back then there were also light-skinned artist that were thriving. Every shade was represented back then. Now, though, only ligh-skinned artists are pushed to the forefront while dark-skinned artists are paid dust. We are allowed to desire a change in that.

IDK much about Normani but I was very IMPRESSED with her when I saw her on the Billboard Awards. I am a HUGE Janet fan and I admit she's not a strong singer, But from the little I've seen of Normani, she seems to be a stronger singer than Janet, Ciara, and JLo, especially since she can do the Mariah whistle. But it could be because I don't know her music enough.

She just needs to learn to be consistent, to sing while performing, and I would say project and expand it. That whistle register is a skill she should work on and put in her songs.
