I love to knit shawls too. I had about a dozen I didn’t wear. I gave them to a retirement home. They love them. I was blessed because I knew they would enjoy them.
Hi Ruth, what a trip down memory lane today's podcast was. I too grew up in Northern Ireland in Lisburn and learnt to knit in P2. We started with dishcloths with more yarn overs and holes. I too left Ireland at 19, moved around some before settling down in Canada. I too don't miss Ireland much but I would rather have a wee wheaten than a veda! 😅
It is such a pleasure to listen to you, I laugh at some of the things you say you bring a smile to my heart as you speak and knit just love it . And the faith in your life bless you. ❤
Hi Ruth, sat knitting my socks while listening to you, love your accent and agree with you about having good needles, I use KnitPro Symfonie interchangeable they are a good brand too. Have a wonderful week. Hugs ❤❤❤
Oh what a perfect way to start my day! Coffee, knitting, and a chat with a friend. I have quite a few sets of interchangeable needle sets. The majority of them are Knitter's Pride/Knit Pro. I have 2 sets from Knit Picks. One is a square set and the other is their Anniversary set. Wooden Needles with cords like the Knitter's Pride Mindful cords. No memory and they swivel. So far, the Mindful needles are my favorite to work with. I also signed up for Wool Swap. It's my first time.
This was perfect downtime. I could listen to you chatting and giggling every day. Enjoy your trips to Edinburgh and to Ireland. I’m so happy to hear you’re feeling better. Looking forward to the next podcast. ❤
Thank you for sharing. I will be celebrating my 38th wedding anniversary with my husband in two weeks.😮😂 We are blessed with a daughter and two sons and how blessed our we to now have two sets of twin granddaughters ❤. So happy that you are feeling so much better. X
Oh I have really enjoyed chatting with you and knitting. I'm working on a baby blanket. What a lovely way to meet your husband. I always like to know how people meet. I had a penfriend who became my husband almost 33 years ago x
Thankful to hear you're feeling so good. I'm in Liverpool in the north west of England and St Patrick's day is certainly celebrated here. And by celebrated I mean every pub in town is packed 😂 Well they say 50% of scousers have Irish ancestry so I suppose it makes sense ☘
I really enjoyed your podcast and got some knitting done on a shawl. I am also an English knitter. I was taught over 50 years ago by my grandmother and have never been able to change, even though I have tried to knit continental. I'm glad you are feeling better, you do look it.
Another great podcast Ruth....have just bought the mindfulness shawl, so that's next on my list to make. Loved hearing all the q's and a's..very interesting. I don't get to buy much hand dyed yarn as a pensioner, so most of my yarn is commercial. I do try to buy good yarn tho....when I can. My first love is crochet, but I've knitted since childhood too...being taught at school....the 'garter stitch scarf'....with handmade holes....haha!!....but we all start somewhere...looking forward to more of your garments to come..you really are an inspiration....take care 🥰
Hi Ruth, I'm have a procrastination degree too. Thank you for sharing with us and loved hearing about how you and your husband meet. I hope you are finally able to get home to visit your family. I'm glad you have recovered from your surgery. Take care and happy crafting.
I am so glad that I found your podcast. I am from USA & I could listen to your sweet voice & your charming accent. I am an avid knitter but few of my friends knit so I love RUclips for my knitting community. I look forward to spending more quality knitting time with you! ❤
Glad you are feeling better. Loved the story of how you met your husband. I knit the same way you do and I also have a degree in procrastination. 🤣 Have fun in Ireland and Scotland.
I love your sweatshirt - what a fantastic mantra!! Always love your podcast. I live on the Causeway Coast and there were a few green leprechauns about - a few the worse for wear!! ☘️🌸💖
bless your heart for sharing all your news and chat. I am under the weather today slowly watching a few podcasts. I went and immediately downloaded 2 shawl patterns. I use an old sheep counter as my row counter...does the job and I like to clicking noise it makes. I think its amazing that you travelled the world working. with best wishes Rebecca x
First time listener to your podcast Ruth and I throughly enjoyed it Have a very soft spot for the Irish as both my husbands and my family originated from there a few generations ago. Loved hearing your life story and yes God has a plan for all of us and where would we be without him. Have a safe trip with your family and looking forward to catching up with your earlier podcasts. I’m from Australia xx
I enjoyed spending time with you and learning a bit about your past adventures. I’m so glad you are feeling better and have a wonderful birthday planned.
Good even Ruth, I'm so glad to have found your channel, I have truly enjoyed the visit and all the laughter. It was really nice to get to know you as I knit away on a baby blanket for our newest Grandbaby due in June. Safe journeys home and happy knitting along the way.
Any woman who can say she married a kind man is fortunate indeed. I’m a thrower. It was so wonderful to hear you are too. That is what I learned, as a child. So I had always thought it was elementary or a childish method. I’ve tried quite a few other methods but always prefer throwing. So I was so happy to know that you, as a professional knitter are also a thrower.
Ruth what a wonderful chatty podcast. I had to laugh when you explained how you met your Husband. I met my Husband at a station that serves the Naval Base at Simonstown about 45 Kl from Cape Town. He proposed to me on the train. We can always turn to the Lord for it says "His ways are not our ways ..." Take care sweet Ruth ❤
I am glad to hear you are feeling great. Thank you for sharing the story of how you met your husband. I think it is good for marriages to remind ourselves of why you fell in love with your spouse in the first place. What a kind man to come check to see if you were all right when you were crying.
I am an English thrower to and roughly the same age , so when you were in London nursing, I was having my first baby just shy of 21 ,that said baby is 30 at the end of the year!! Time does fly.
Hello - new viewer here. I had to write in about Isaiah 55:8-9. I love that too & along with Psalm 46:10 I’m reminded that I don’t have to understand things or fix what’s impossible for me to fix. God’s got it under control. What a relief! I have my grandkids memorize Bible verses and Is. 55:8-9 was done a couple weeks ago. Now we’re Proverbs 3:5-6. More humility. 🥰 Happy knitting - I hope you had a nice visit back home.
So happy to watch your podcast this evening while I knit on a test knit of a cardigan. I love hearing the stories of how you met your husband, your family, etc. I really enjoy your podcasts and look forward to them. Thanks so much for making me smile😊
My favorite interchangeable needles are KnitPicks wooden needles. I have two sets of interchangeables with 5” tips (the Cocobolo and the Rainbow sets) and I also have a 16” set of their wooden needles. Because I also love the chiaogoo cords, I was disappointed in the KnitPicks cords. But then I discovered Lantern Moon’s memory free swivel cords (they work with KnitPicks needles.) I tried one length and absolutely loved it so I slowly added every length of Lantern Moon cord that I thought I might use. Now KnitPicks has new cords also called reflection cords and they are memory free. I have some of them, too, but I admit that I like the Lantern Moon cords a bit more. I have chiaogoo interchangeables also but I go to my wooden needles more because I love the feel of wood in my hands. As to parenting, I totally relate to the older parent thing. My husband and I went through 14 years of infertility/childlessness until God brought us our 3 daughters through miracle adoptions. I am 64 and have daughters who are 20, 21 and 22. 😅
I enjoyed sitting, knitting and listening to you so very much! Thank you for chatting a bit. :) Totally empathize with you; my husband, daughter and I moved out of state in 2019 (from NY to SC, USA) and I still don't have many friends here yet. It's so nice to watch and listen to others like you who love to knit and share beautiful projects. Absolutely loved the story of how you and your husband met! So incredibly sweet! Hope you have a nice trip. Looking forward to your next podcast.
Loved knitting with you today! I'm working on a baby blanket for my first grandchild who is expected in the fall. I really enjoyed hearing your story, and I feel we have a few things in common, like being "older mothers". And I'm so glad someone asked how you met your husband. I've been wondering about this but would never have the nerve to ask😊. I always enjoy spending time with you, thanks so much for sharing.
❤ A grand visit on St. Patrick’s Day! Great sharing, so enjoy your podcasts. I am so excited to participate in my first International Yarn Swap this year. JL
Yay, fabulous Ruth. What a joy when I saw you here and then a sort of different podcast. Loved it with a capital “L” so more please whenever you feel like just sitting and chatting. It felt like you were sitting in my living room having a knit and catch up. Fingers double crossed for your trip home. Although I do understand the home bit is where you and the family are. My hubby is from Enniskillen but he feels he has now “ come home” as we live in Cumbria but near the Border Reivers land where a lot of his family were ( pillage and will-age I call the reivers🤭). We have the Celtic nations flag up for today but don’t drink either so won’t be supping any Guinness tonight. Have a super weekend and thanks again for this fabulous sit and knit and drink coffee and tea xx
You can also get pony bead cords in the children’s section of a crafts store that works the same to hold stitches. Metres of the cord for a couple of dollars
So nice to spend the evening with you on St Patrick's Day ☘ and happy to hear that you are feeling well! Enjoy your upcoming travels and I'll visit with you again soon.
I started my mindfulness shawl, and I am about halfway through. Thank you so much for your help, and your quick response with emails. It was fun to hear about every day life with you and hearing the answers to find questions. I knit away while I listened, and it was great. Feel free to do that. Anytime you want, even if you don't have knitting to share!😊
I really enjoyed our chatty knit today😊 I put all my chores aside and allowed myself guilt-free knitting time while I smiled along with your stories. Great accompaniment for my gansey project inspired by the Albanach knitter! Safe travels🤗☘️
I lived in 3 countries and 6 different cities before I was 30 but never got to move outside Europe. Thank you for sharing your experience, it is truly inspiring. Life has he capacity to twist and turn and we can only adapt and get the best of every situation!
Please try the Lantern Moon cables. They are a wire wrapped cable with a swivel at the connection and I've switched over all my needles that aren't Chiaogoo to Lantern Moon cables because the cables are so much nicer than the plastic cables. The Lantern Moon wooden interchangeable tips are very nice also. I have a few, but since I have more interchangeable wood needles that are Knitter's Pride, I really just needed cables that I liked better. Lantern Moon cables are available on Amazon and you get 2 in a pack for about $15 USD. Thank you for the lovely video as always. Take care.
Happy St. Patties day 🍀🤗 Actually, there are options for caff and no caff, coffee tasting teas and powders made from mushroom, other herbs that are probiotic (teechino makes several), and other natural ingredients (Rasa is another good one) ❤ 🌺
That was a lovely knit and chat. Happy St Patrick’s day. Have a lovely visit to your parents.and also your long trip to Scotland. I am excited to go home for Easter this year to the UK from Texas
Hi Ruth. My first set of Lykke needles broke virtually straight away. Lykke replaced the needle. Then another needle broke. And i was regretting buying them as they are not cheap. But Lykke said i was very unlucky as they rarely have a problem and sent me a complete new set. And I haven’t had a problem since. I was very impressed they did not create any fuss. Just sorted it. Hopefully you will get the same. I’m laughing at you saying your husband doesn’t watch so you can say what you want 😅. Sounds like you and your husband were meant to meet 😊. Thank you for sharing. Xx
Lovely, made the most of the afternoon I took off work with a bit of a headache by knitting and listening to you. I remember the different size needles - Patons Odd Pins ! My mother made me a bat wing, v-backed sweater in peach mohair 😂😂 could it be more 80’s!! ❤
Lov3d ur chat with us,,,, Enjoyed it so much,,, Knitting a mindless crescent shape shawl from my advents,,,,!!! Have a good trip home to Ireland,,,,, Elaine🏡🏡🏡⚘⚘
It’s always good to spend time with you my friend. Thank you for sharing some of your life with us. I hope you get to have a successful trip back to your parent’s home.
My husband is 25% Irish and I am 0% yet every March 17th you'll find our family enjoying our corned beef and cabbage and dressed in green! Americans do really enjoy St. Patrick's day!
Oh that is funny! How we think we're celebrating an Irish holiday and reallying just an Americanized holiday. Oh well, at least we have fun 😉 Maybe I need to research a recipe for an authentic Irish stew.
This was fun! My running habit got replaced with knitting after starting a family, too. Sometimes I think how much healthier I would be if I went back to it, but the thought makes me hurt. Safe travels to you!
Thank you for a lovely St. Patrick's day chat. Safe travels to Ireland and Scotland. I'm visiting family in the UK in April and will visit a couple of yarn shops, funny how our priorities change! Thanks again Jane
Good morning Ruth, Enjoy your podcasts!Happy St. Patricks ☘Day to you and family. Great saying on your hooded top!!! 💚Thanks for sharing about your knitting story and life ! Happy early 🎂 Birthday! Happy Knitting!
It was nice to hear from you today! I'm so glad you're feeling better! It's been a long time coming. I hope things work out for you to get to NI this time and that you enjoy yourself. Take care and see you next time.
So happy to see another Ruth Loves to Knit podcast. And so great to hear your story. I hope you make it home and give your mom and dad some great big hugs!!!
I laugh often at how “ similar” I feel we are sometimes Nurse, lived and worked in Canada for 42 years, still have my Scottish accent ( hubby is from same home town in Scotland)l Left home just after 18th birthday for nursing school lived in residence, left Scotland at 21 (=62yrs old). Have only been “ home” 4 times, family all came here for holidays. Coffee black in house, spot of milk when out, Christian Difference When I knit with straight needles I’m a thrower because I learned that in school, Right needle tucked under. but when I knit with circular needles I pick. And yes my favourite thing to knit is shawls. Stephen West size
Ruth, big hugs. You made my day. Felt like we were having coffee together as I’d just sat down with a coffee and muffin. I’m so glad you feel healthier. Thank you for answering all the questions, and for sharing how you and your hubby met. It was a lovely natter for sure. I hope you meet up with Amy and Rebecca - two very sweet people. Rebecca is taking the knitting world by storm I think. Another hug Ruth, you are such a special soul. God bless. 🤗🤗🤗
I love to knit shawls too. I had about a dozen I didn’t wear. I gave them to a retirement home. They love them. I was blessed because I knew they would enjoy them.
Yes I have decided to do this to. X
On a lonely day, you made a very big difference. God bless.
Glad I could keep you company x

Gosh I wouldnt have been ready then 😀
I loved hearing your love story, And I, too, count Isaiah 55 as my favorite.
You are very welcome here. X
Lovely Knit and chat episode . Thank you
Great episode, enjoyed. Your trip to Edinburgh sounds wonderful.
Thank you Ruth, l really enjoyed your chat and also for Isaiah 55 xx
So happy to watch your podcast this evening while I knit on a test knit of a cardigan. I love hearing the stories of how you met your husband, your family, etc. I really enjoy your podcasts and look forward to them. Thanks so much for making me smile😊
My favorite interchangeable needles are KnitPicks wooden needles. I have two sets of interchangeables with 5” tips (the Cocobolo and the Rainbow sets) and I also have a 16” set of their wooden needles.
Because I also love the chiaogoo cords, I was disappointed in the KnitPicks cords. But then I discovered Lantern Moon’s memory free swivel cords (they work with KnitPicks needles.) As to parenting, I totally relate to the older parent thing. My husband and I went through 14 years of infertility/childlessness until God brought us our 3 daughters through miracle adoptions. I am 64 and have daughters who are 20, 21 and 22. 😅
Don't think Lantern Moon are available in the UK after a quick check. Yay for older Mum's x
I got my Lantern Moon cords off of Amazon
Always such a good time watching your videos Ruth! I knit and laughed right along with you! Safe travels for all your upcoming trips.

You could sell your shawls to people who knit if you frame it as a fundraiser. I think that could work, because knitters are the most giving people.
I have never eaten this combination in my life. Irish stew definitely.
Think I have developed a bad case if lazyitis!!
Really enjoyed knitting along with your chat Ruth. Fun & interesting episode 😊
Thank you for a lovely St. Patrick's day chat. Safe travels to Ireland and Scotland. I'm visiting family in the UK in April and will visit a couple of yarn shops, funny how our priorities change! Thanks again Jane

I laugh often at how “ similar” I feel we are sometimes
Nurse, lived and worked in Canada for 42 years, still have my Scottish accent ( hubby is from same home town in Scotland)l
Left home just after 18th birthday for nursing school lived in residence, left Scotland at 21 (=62yrs old). Have only been “ home” 4 times, family all came here for holidays.

Difference
When I knit with straight needles I’m a thrower because I learned that in school, Right needle tucked under. but when I knit with circular needles I pick.
And yes my favourite thing to knit is shawls. Stephen West size
Twinsies xx
Ruth, big hugs. You made my day. Felt like we were having coffee together as I’d just sat down with a coffee and muffin. I’m so glad you feel healthier. Thank you for answering all the questions, and for sharing how you and your hubby met. It was a lovely natter for sure. I hope you meet up with Amy and Rebecca - two very sweet people. Rebecca is taking the knitting world by storm I think. Another hug Ruth, you are such a special soul. God bless. 🤗🤗🤗
So happy to see you
