Ohhh they're so cute and my heart melted when I saw one of them walk on his hand especially when he said they have low vision.....then boom.....freeze dried and packaged you should have seen my face 🤣🤣🤣😥
I'm not sure if the "red abalone" (such as featured on this vid) produces the colorful abalone that you are referring to....(mother of pearl, is actually from an oyster).....
Former California uni diver now living in Maine here. Where can I purchase some of your retail product? I so miss having a freezer full of wild caught ab.
I was just eating abalone just now for dinner and decided to youtube what they look like alive. --like not just the raw meat that I normally see at markets, but the whole animal. ...I did not know that it was a type of snail. I thought all my life that it was some kind of clam. >_>;;
@@joehorton5067 wow I’m a guitar player and never knew abalone came from this it looks beautiful but never would have thought it was from this nasty looking sea creature
I just ate this yesterday. They don't mention how hard it is to catch in the wild or how expensive it is. I still prefer not to eat seafood though if given the choice.
WHAT wouldn't humans eat? These creatures evolved to look inedible and to live hidden and yet humans found them. They should have be poisonous to be left alone.
When ur kinda attached to the abalone because of it’s cuteness then they show you the abalone steaks in the next clip. Wow. The trauma.
I know. It made me dizzy, I had to sit down. I was thinking I would want one for a pet, then that!

Please just dismiss yourself
Lmaoooo SAME!! Life comes @ ya fast. Even for an abalone
Lol that timing was truly perfect! They are actually surprisingly cute
I came to say how cute it was too. Couldn't eat one. Too adorable 🥰
Thing is like a turtlesnail or something. Something that'd be made up in avatar the last Airbender
Thanks for doing this video. I was randomly curious and this didn’t disappoint.
Absolutely brilliant! I want to show this to my Summer school students!
I remember as a kid my brother would go scuba diving and bring home abalone they were so damn good, a California tradition, until they got fished out.
I miss them. So sweet!
Never knew how Abalone were raised or what they looked like ALIVE before this video
Abalone shells are beautiful. These creatures create amazing mother of pearl layer inside the shell.

@james Parker
Pearl oysters supply the majority of "mother of pearl" material; Abalone supplies about 30% of it.
Its kinda cute especially when it walks😄😆
abalxxx
I agree
That wasn't beautiful.but cute
Only *kinda* cute?
3:42 it’s giving off turtle vibes with the way it walks. I wonder if they have a single foot or several?
Okay I can't watch! I read the first comment and I dont want to become depressed by seeing how cute it is and boom dead.🥺
Chinese stew abalone is still the best way to cook and eat. With brown sauce

abalones are fucking delicious
About 15 years ago I was looking at beachfront rentals in Cayucas.
This is very interesting. I mean I find abalones disgusting but I didn't know all this!

Abalone is the epitome of cuteness and richness
Amazing, that is a lot of information. I'm going to try and order some.

This one (4:07) ostensibly to be quite happy hanging out 😉.
I love nature.
How are they killed?
Thank you.
You were lucky handling that abalone. They normally go for your throat.
Wow how I wish I can work here in this farm of abalone
I was just eating abalone just now for dinner and decided to youtube what they look like alive. --like not just the raw meat that I normally see at markets, but the whole animal.

Abalone is a snail right? They look like a snail.

I can't believe that we use these Abalone shells as smudging.
Haliotis rufescens?
Beautiful creatures.
Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I got here by searching 'abalone' because it's part of a clean up crew for saltwater tanks... suddenly i see them being served as food! yikes! haha
It is very interesting... I didn't know about any of that cool stuff! (I bet it tastes good!)
SOOO GOOD! Shrimp cocktail with Abalone, best seafood you could eat👌
Where can I buy some
since you own the farm why not let them grow 20 years or more
What do you do with the shells, as inedible parts?
They polish them and cut them up for use as adornments. It's commonly used on higher end guitars in the United States.
@@joehorton5067 wow I’m a guitar player and never knew abalone came from this it looks beautiful but never would have thought it was from this nasty looking sea creature
So it's a clam without the bottom shell?
snail
Gastropod
They are delicious! A bit tough so you have to pound the heck out of the steaks.

I was searching for random foods and its weird how the best tasting foods aren't supposed to be eaten as foods lmao
Ewww, farm-raised seafood
