    Unbelievable ! Such heat! To think the interior of this planet is comprised of this . And, here we are... living right on top of it like nothing to worry about.. It's kinda scary to think of considering the size of the planet.. and how miniscule we are in comparison.

      lava rate is slowing though, though that may be just what is going out and over into the valleys, so long as its splashing around there, all will be good for a while yet

      Geologists in March were saying this could last months, years, decades, or maybe centuries. In other words, thay really don't know how long this will last.
      Mid Atlantic spreading ridge has been active for over 180 million years and it runs right threw that peninsula. So I'm taking the over on any predictions on how long this could go.

    Try Amazon prime see if they have a cork.On a serious note imagine the void left behind scarey.

    • @grendel_nz
      @grendel_nz 3 года назад

      No void. This is a mantel plume. Imagine a soap scum topped saucepan of water or custard gently on a rolling boil. Plenty below this rift zone :)
      Search youtube for the 'Rift! What is tearing Africa apart' geological talk by David Hilton. Or one on Iceland volcanic geology.

      Minus the effects of being deep, deep in the ocean, of course. No rivers down there, it comes out as pillow lava instead (Google it for images)

    I wonder what would happen if sea water reached the main lava/magma tube that leads directly to the athenosphere via a deep crack in the underground lava tube?
    Does anyone know?
    Would that be bad?
