The riots at the capitol shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

    "You're not American why are you so interested in US politics".
    Unfortunately America is THAT country that has made their problems, everyone's problems... especially in other english speaking countries that are SO heavily influenced by US media/politics.

      American culture and politics have seeped into other countries in a much bigger way than I ever thought it would... I can imagine Australia has this particularly when it comes to aboriginal and everything relating to their treatment & culture

    I really like this type of videos thank you!! I just wanted to know like you mentioned you don’t agree with some of the way people protest (referring to blm) and I mean I don’t like violence but I guess that society literally has left them without any option, sometimes they need things that will have a bigger impact because peaceful protests are most of the times not even noticed, by that I mean the media don’t cover them therefore less people know about what is happening

    I relate to this so much. As a Canadian, people always ask me why I care, and say it doesn’t affect us - smh of course it does 🤨 Also I consider myself a progressive but do not like the democratic establishment. Trying to explain that to a die-hard republican is basically pointless.

    A friend of mine directed my attention to the events as they were happening. She was shocked while I gave a verbal shrug. When she asked me how I can be that calm about it, I said: "Because this is not a surprise. The mood in American society keeps building up. Also it's not a coup, but just some zealous white guys self-staging."
    Of course it was terrifying and obviously someone died but it's just that nothing The Right™ is doing in the US can shock me anymore.
    Said friend's family is from the Balkan (as are parts of mine). She sent me an article about how calmly the reporter of Al Jazeera Balkan handled the situation. It was almost comedic. He didn't let the "protesters" disturb him while they were yelling "Communist!", "China doesn't own America!" and "Speak American!".
    Which brings me to: "Can you just stop prioritising your ego and admit you are wrong?"
    They can not. Everything they are doing is because their ego is fragile and hurt. lol
    (Love the tweet you dug up about 'nobody on the left cares about the woman who died', perfect strawman; I don't even take the time to discuss with this kind of person since they don't know how to do that constructively).
    I never thought about the fact that some people who might have voted for Bernie voted for Trump instead since he made 'similar' promises.
    Great video like always. Looking forward to the book video. 💜
    PS: I'm sorry for leaving a wall of text under every video. Already trying to keep it short. Lol

      ok first of all don't apologise, I recognise your handle and happy to see your input every time!
      thankfully it wasn't an actual coup, it was a (thankfully) terrible, failed attempt at a coup. Honestly I'm glad trump and his supporters aren't intelligent or they could have done much more damage... But yeah everyone is shocked that this is happening and it's like ??? have you seen how divided we all are or is it news to you that almost no one is capable of having a normal discussion with someone of the other side of the political spectrum lol.
      and their ego can go die in a ditch if the result is even more screeching, this is so frustrating

      @@chapterbarbara8161 Thank you very much!
      I would just like to put my last comment into perspective for everyone: when I say that I am not shocked, I do not mean that I am not upset about the events. I am rather disgusted and growing tired of the bs Trump and his minions are pulling. At this point, there is nothing they are not capable of imo. At the same time I'm getting more and more scared of developments like this in (Western) Europe.
      As for the discussion point: I don't necessarily have a problem with discussing someone from a different part of the political spectrum but just as soon as they start using ad hominem and strawman arguments, I'm out. It is plainly bad manners and there is nothing more to gain from the conversation after that point. And that's a thing that goes for left as well as right. (Like I said before, I see myself in the middle of the political spectrum and so I have often been called both a 'filthy Communist' and a 'bloody nazi', latter of which is ironic to call a Jew. That's where a civilised conversation is just over.)
      Happy fact at the end: Twitter has permanently blocked Trump. That may significantly hinder his communication with his followers. (But also allows him to play the victim card.) I'm curious what he will do now. Cofveve

    Ive used your video to send to friends(trumpians) in the states, so they see how you look to the rest of the world when they dont think for themselves...(prevents the excuse, she is biased) They can not come back with " Well she is just on their side" ...Great points, Trump is a narcissist that lacks empathy and only thinks for himself, been very clear since the beginning, and all he has done is reinforce those points since taking office! If his supporters lack the ability to be wrong or be accountable, how do they learn anything new?

    I feel like nobody is talking about how the woman who was shot at the capatol was literally climbing through a broken window into the chambers were the secret service were and the police warned her repeatedly that they were going to shoot if she didn't stop. BLM protestors were just peacefully protesting in the street and police escalated it for no reason. Breonna Taylor was literally just in her house and police broke down the door and shot her. One was an act of terrorism and the others were innocent protests and people just minding their own fucking business. The two aren't comparable in the slightest. And the fact that only 4 people died during a domestic terrorist attack proves that police are able to handle protests without fucking shooting people. It actually drives me insane the mental gymnastics of the rights jfc.

    While their reason for doing so is moronic I'm not opposed to the idea of storming government buildings. I actually think it's probably more efficient and harmless compared to regular protests which shut down businesses, only affect innocent people and often escalate into violence. I wish BLM would have gone that way instead of destroying their own neighborhoods.
    That's direct action, politicians are responsible for what's wrong in the US and deserve to be reminded of who they're supposed to serve: the people, not the lobbies.

    • @chapterbarbara8161
      @chapterbarbara8161  3 года назад +5

      Damn I hadn't even thought of that; you're right. Sadly I think there would have been many more casualties if the BLM movement had taken the protest to the capitol...

    • @user-ff1bl8qk1b
      @user-ff1bl8qk1b 3 года назад

      @@chapterbarbara8161 You're probably right. If they were better organized I think it would be doable, especially on a smaller scale, state by state. It's not rare for sate capitols to get stormed actually. It happened just a few months ago in Michigan at an anti-lockdown protest and there were no casualties despite the protestors being armed.
      Back in the 60's the Black Panthers stormed the California state capitol with guns and it didn't escalate into violence either. The police disarmed and arrested them but they weren't charged with anything. After being questioned it was determined that they hadn't broken any laws and they were released and got their guns back. I don't trust BLM to be that calm when confronted with police thought so yeah it would probably go south very quickly if they tried to replicate that today.

      What’s sad is that a lot of political personalities (and politically driven evangelical preachers) ended up talking a big game but were not the ones willing to risk their butts themselves (Guliani being the worst offender; “trial by combat” yet he’s not only safe at home but he’s prob not even gonna bother to bail out any arrested Trump supporters!)
      The problem is that these guys who recklessly blundered into Capitol Hill have given government a green light to go nuts on upping surveillance capabilities.
      It’s so similar to how we all became afraid after 9/11 (thou not nearly to the same extent).....I STILL am holding on to hope that one day we can have kids being invited to check out the cockpits of planes while in mid flight for example (I remember being able to do this pre 2001)
