I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that they said screw it, why even bother when it comes to mac... I can't see that shooting their sales up through the roof, can anyone else? I just don't see the market there..
@@cartayatama yeah that's true, I suppose they aren't yet targeting the "gamer" demographic... Maybe they'll try to make a VR Ready computer one day and I'll be laughing my ass off? 💸💸💸
Perhaps, one day, I can save up 800 dollars. And then, I will finally be able to buy a computer that can run VR. Then, 800 dollars more, and I can actually get a headset for said VR.
+sebasifas I don't know what he has, but he's not that far off nonethess. Mine is below. You can certainly go cheaper than this if you do a little more research + these components were bought over the course of the last 2 or 3 years. Only the graphics card was upgraded about a year ago. The rest or equivalents thereof (performance wise) could have become cheaper by now. These are just the prices I bought them at (only the power suply was at a discount iirc...). Knowing that tech at least used to be cheaper in the US in my experience I would imagine these prices are an overestimation of what you would pay for the same system in the US. You can probably save money by going for a cheaper motherboard or even using your old one - be sure to check whether it has the right sockets for the processor though, and any other functionality you might want. Additionally buying an AMD processor and GPU instead of intel and Nvidia will save you some precious money as well. In the end you would probably near the $800 mark he mentioned. If you keep an eye out for discounts and just collect your components piece by piece you can probably even get as low as €600-700. Building a cheap high performing computer just needs time and a lot of reading/research comparing the pros and cons of components to get the best deals - and a lot of people are not willing to do this so they claim a cheap high performing PC doesn't exist. But the fact is, they do. I'm not including a screen, mouse and keyboard or any of that other peripheral stuff here because you most likely do not need to buy these. You should already have those - although it can't hurt to double check whether your monitor can even handle what the GPU could potentially give you (if you care about that..). SSD is recommended for most newer games though unless you don't mind somewhat longer loading times (which is ok, to each their own). Some extra fans to keep your hardware cooled - the prices range from cheap to expensive, but the cheaper ones are good enough (do you own research). a couple extra at €10 a piece or so are fine in my experience.
mine arrived yesterday and I'm blown away. Better than I hoped and played for 6 hours on just two games! Going back to 2D games felt old. The future is bright.
With the 4 straight hours quote for the controller battery. I was operating a Vive at a convention and the Controllers under constant load lasted from 7am to 6pm before dying.
Im thinking of getting a vive in a couple of years. But my only issue is the controller: What controller would be most similar to this one if it was split in one? Is it like the steam controller? I hope its not, i didnt like the steam controller.
I personally have the Rift, though I played on both vr systems. I only got the Rift because it was on sale, not because it was the better one. They both have their pros and cons. They both have tracking, but the vive has all you need to start playing right away. If you want to have tracking on the rift like the vive, you need 3 if not 4 sensors so you can turn around in games and not glitch around. You will still have a lot of space to move around but only differs a few square feet from the vive. The Rift is lighter and already has headphones on them. The rift is also more, move friendly so if you wish to have a vr that you could take to a friends house, its not a huge hassle. Last but not least, the rift is by far faster setting up. It takes me about 5-10 minutes where as the vive takes around 45 minutes.
iv been trying to find out if i could still use the vive or any Vr when i have only one eye...but no one has gotten back to me...please someone respond
Bonus fact: Unity made another VR game that released for PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive: SUPERHOT VR. This was a collaborative between Unity and the SUPERHOT Team.
You will love it! I have had mine since the 2ed week of april and the only reason I don't use it every day is it does not yet have a game as good as CS GO. However there are lots of fun games out right now (I really love multiplayer games, and most vr games are single player atm.) in the next year, the games that come out for it will be amazing including fallout 4 with dedicated VR support!
Yeah, I have a Rift personally, and I'm dying for Oculus Touch. Some days I wish I'd have gotten a Vive over my Rift. Oh well, both HMDs are incredible
Be careful when using it, they warn that it can sometimes screw with tracking. I had to disable my camera cause the tracking kept going while it was on
At 21:21 she said which VR headset are you going to buy. I replied to a post by Leaderboard that said "Which VR headset do you want to buy? The Vive or Oculus Rift?"
You unfortunately missed the "hidden" extra usb port you can use in the headset. The plastic panel that the cables pass through can be pushed forward and you will find an empty usb recessed enough for most regular usb plugs to fit down in. Great for usb gaming headsets.
a) It's not the lenses that allow you to see 3D, but the fact that you get two different pictures from slightly offset view points for your two eyes, also known as stereoscopy... the lenses, AFAIK, are necessary because without them the screens would just be a blurry mess thanks to being so close to your eyes and their inability to properly focus on that distance. Just put a finger roughly 5 or 6cm away from either one of your eyes and try to focus on that. b) It's really sad you didn't even mention the Half-Life series when talking about Valve's games... and calling Steam infamous is a bit of a stretch, IMO.

jslingrowd honestly just a high end lithium ion battery and some lifi connection would do the trick but it would be hard to get a good lifi connection going on a moving object lol, possibly something like the base stations, bluetooth would work but latency might be an issue
I still don't know how to setup the Vive with my iMac because it says there's a USB that needs to plug into the graphics card. WTF I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT!!
Unfortunatley, because of how Apple's builds their PCs, Mac it's harder if not impossible in some cases. Sorry, it's either you get around it or you get an normal PC (if you do that, build it yourself: there's alot of tutorials and it's cheaper. Just remember to check the minimal specs to run VR). Good luck out there!

Depends on your GPU. Though it's unlikely you can run it since alienwares are trash.
+Jackal alienwares are good but overpriced
If you're asking that without considering the rest of the specifications, it is definitely NOT worth you getting a vive.

The only reason both headsets are tethered is because they need to achieve 90 FPS and low latency.
No thanks on the wireless. I rather incur wired inconvenience that blast high bandwidth radiation directly into my brain.

honestly just a high end lithium ion battery and some lifi connection would do the trick but it would be hard to get a good lifi connection going on a moving object lol, possibly something like the base stations, bluetooth would work but latency might be an issue

Titus Gray Looks like you're too stupid to do that.
The Vive on a mac? bruh do any mac's excluding hackintosh build even have enough power to run the Vive?
No. There are no compatible gpu's on any Mac.
you can use a psvr headset on pc to emulate the vive (which is way cheaper) and have it set up in a very similar way to the rift
not as good tho

I still don't know how to setup the Vive with my iMac because it says there's a USB that needs to plug into the graphics card. WTF I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT!!
Unfortunatley, because of how Apple's builds their PCs, Mac it's harder if not impossible in some cases.
Sorry, it's either you get around it or you get an normal PC (if you do that, build it yourself: there's alot of tutorials and it's cheaper. Just remember to check the minimal specs to run VR).
Good luck out there!
GamerDashboard Thanks!
