    I worked in Sudan during the war and drank karkade daily. It tastes great and is good to drink in the often hot climate of Sudan. Nowadays I drink it in Thailand where I am residing.

    Tastes delicious too. The flower in its natural form is also beautiful. Soak it overnight to get the tangy taste. You can also add mint and lemon into it.

    I sweeten the karkade with apple juice and take also some ginger. If you want to top this you may also use some cardamom.

    I tried it with fresh hibiscus petal and the water turned blue in color. Is it normal?? What did I do wrong?

    • @TasteofSouthSudan
      @TasteofSouthSudan  4 года назад +2

      What is used is the the Hibiscus Calyx, not the petals. The flower petals fall off leaving the calyx(cob). It is the dried calyx that is soaked to make hibiscus juice. When you first soak the calyx it gives off a purple color that turns to deep red as it soaks off more.

    karkade is not actually an Arabic word, it's an Egyptian one then transferred to some Arabic dialects, It has a different name in Iraq "Gujarat" and in Arab peninsula it's known as "Ghajar"
