I think you’re totally nailing this channel. Honestly this content is like a breath of fresh air in the tech/productivity space. I’m getting really bored of shouty people and fast cuts that all seem to say the same thing. It’s like your videos are whole foods and theirs is ultra processed. Thank you!

You’ve nailed it Jill. Everyone and everyone’s requirements are different. Use what works for you or your needs. Love my Pro & Magic Keyboard. Awesome video

“What do you use the iPad for, or what do you hope to use it for?” This is the question. I have an iPad Mini 5 that I use for email, calendar, todo, notes, pdf files for work and entertainment. Where possible, I am using the native iPadOS apps. I have started to use Numbers for some very basic spreadsheet projects. Additionally, I use Google drive to help move files from my iPad to my PC. Photo or video editing is not even on my radar. As I approach potential retirement (5+ years into the future), I am considering transitioning from a windows environment to a iPadOS environment. It’s not a complete solution, but for many daily tasks, it may be an option. Thank you, and keep moving forward with these great videos.

Really love your content Jill. You always make a point that you have your day job and you use your iPad for almost everything. People who also have a day job like me can really resonate

I’ve looked for a channel like this for years. How do I use my iPad in a Corporate environment? I wasn’t interested on how a content creator uses their iPad to make RUclips videos. That was never my use case. Thanks for providing simple but informative content for those of us in the corporate world.

Love the Magic Keyboard and I’ve got the iPad Pro 11” from two years ago. Apple products just work elegantly together. I happen to use my MacBook Air as my work computer with iPad as companion usually second monitor in home office and on the road. Love how your channel is gaining in subscribers - great content!

How is the keyboard ergonomically when typing for a long time? The reason I love my external keyboard is that I can prop the iPad somewhere eye level, and the keyboard, if needs be, can rest on my legs. Positions can be easily adjusted throughout the day.

Great video as usual, and I agree with your rationale as to whether the Magic Keyboard is a useful accessory or not. Personally I don't need on because I also own a laptop and a desktop computer. With regards to buying quality or cheap - I always say, "buy it nice, or buy it twice!"
    Cheers!

Jill, you’re spot on with this video. I’ve had both use scenarios you mentioned; where the iPad was a companion device for my MacBook and I tried using it as my only device way back in 2015 when the first 12.9 pro was released. The 2015 was lacking and didn’t meet my needs as a replacement back then. As a result, I got rid of it and stayed away from iPads for years…only using my MacBook. I got the iPad bug again when the mini iPad came out and again when the M1 was released and loved them for what they were. I then started to realize that having multiple devices was overkill for me. I started to notice that I would reach for the iPad more than the MacBook and found myself using the MacBook just so it wouldn’t sit unused. Long story short, I traded my MacBook, used the proceeds to offset the cost of the M4 iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard and my iPad only setup works perfectly for my use case.

Really nice video! You bring it straight to the point. Not everybody needs the Magic Keyboard but it has some benefits.
I do have the M1 iPad Pro 11“ with the Keyboard Folio Case and I‘m really happy with it. The iPad is my main Computer at the moment. When I travel it‘s a nice small and lightweight package and at home I mostly use it with an external Monitor, Keyboard and mouse / trackpad. Love the setup. As I‘m a videographer and cutter on my day job I switch to my MacBook Pro for that kind of work. Everything else I do on the iPad.

Completely agree Jill, everyone’s needs are different and for me adding the magic keyboard meant I could take the iPad for work and travel rather than my MacBook Pro. Adding the Apple Pencil Pro to that combo also gives me the choice of how I take my notes or plan my day out as sometime I find writing things down as opposed to typing them resonates far more with me. Keep up the good work and best of luck with the channel.

Ha, I did the same thing as your jacket analogy, purchasing a cheaper keyboard and then buying the Magic Keyboard anyway. It has its weaknesses (I have the older model so no function row) but overall it’s been solid for me.

After seeing your short the other day about your dbrand skin I ended up ordering the Gold Rush one for my new iPad, after speaking with my style consultant (my wife), and I’ve been very impressed with it.
The only problem was that I ordered the skins for the Magic Keyboard too - which meant I ended up having to order one of those too! Arrived yesterday, so I’ve not used it much yet, but very pleased with the quality. For some reason I have a visceral reaction to typing on the glass for anything long form, so it will get some use…

I just wished Ipads ran MacOS. While I just got the M4 Ipad and enjoy for what I can use it for, it is incredibly limiting in a variety of ways. I luckily have an incredible Windows PC but just sad the Ipad which has some incredible hardware is insanely limited due to its software.

Good, thought provoking video. In my household, we have a MacBook Air (primarily used by my wife), as well as a Mac mini that we share. I also have a similar work set up (windoze laptop, monitors, etc), though I work from home 90% of the time, and don’t travel for work. Consequently, the Magic Keyboard doesn’t seem to make sense for me right now. However, if my use case were to change, I might rethink that idea. But this really frames the thought process in a way that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing!

Very similar here as well. I’m not sure about Apples AppleCare+ policy in other countries and regions, but here in the states if you purchase your iPad, MKB, and pencil in the same purchase with AppleCare+, AC+ covers all 3. So as I sit in that space of making my iPad purchase I, lean in the direction of purchasing all three to use within the return window to make my final decision.

Hi Jill. I have one of those corporate jobs. They sent me a Surface Pro a couple years ago. Fortunately we went web based at the same time at it allowed me to continue on in the Apple Ecosystem. Still use my MBP, but as a desktop computer. My M4 11 with MKB has become my primary device.

I got a great deal on a magic keyboard for my 12.9 inch. Just 89€.
My basic thinking is that in some cases I might want to only have my iPad and need to type, others my MacBook and need to type. Better to have two keyboards than want to type on the MBP than want to type on the iPad Air and not be able to.

  • @satysin630

Probably one of the only benefits to being older is that I have [a bit] more money and so I buyer higher quality and purpose made products rather than cheaper or multi-purpose products like you touch on at the end with the jacket comparison. It is hard to change your mindset to buying something _more_ expensive that _does less_ but I almost always find the more expensive product is the better choice as it does it's purpose exactly right rather than having compromises such as cheaper materials or not quite doing everything as well as it could. Of course this is just my personal opinion and experience and obviously I am in the fortunate position to be able to buy the more expensive, purpose made product but I think when we're talking about an expensive device like an iPad Pro then a little extra for the really good keyboard isn't too much of a stretch 😁

A quick question re the Dbrand skins - Do they have a tendency to peel off from the keyboard cover and look flaky (especially at the edges)? And also, do they leave a lot of gunk behind if you later decide to remove them?

Mostly stationary where additional screen space is a premium, 13". Mobile with use in places like trains planes and automobiles, 11". I fall in the second category and having had both, I prefer the smaller. Both are great. Hope that helps.
