How about doctors? Should people get into medical school based on skill, or based on a quota? Imagine going to a neurologist who has no clue what she's doing. This was very disappointing for me. They should have the most challenging requirements of all.
@@phantom8699 The point is that we all know full well that if you're hiring on diversity, you're going to get worse people. Because if you wouldn't have hired the person on skill alone, they are by definition worse than the person who would have been hired on skill alone.
A medical professor once said “I’m holding everyone to the same standard and won’t hesitate to fail you, because one day I’ll be old and I don’t want my life support device to be designed or operated by someone who got the job to fill a quota.”
some years ago I watched a video of a group of women who wanted to be firefighters. the women on the video couldn't even lift the firehose, and the whole thing looked like the 3 stooges. I'd show these kids that video and ask them if their house was on fire, would they want those women to go and put out the fire, or would they prefer a group of men who can get the job done regardless of what color they are.
@@Jerseybytes2 as a Counterpoint I remember the story of Sandy Riddell. She decided she wanted to be a firefighter, but was told that no woman could pass the physical test necessary to qualify for the training. Learning what was required, she left and trained with weights for a year and reapplied. Not only did she pass the physical test but she set the record for many of the events.
@@markjordan348 Retired firefighter here. There are women who can perform firefighting tasks quite well. There are also many who cannot. Twenty odd years ago, we had a woman who was hired only because the city was lawsuit-shy if they didn't hire her. Years later, one of the guys who gave her the agility test told me that they were ordered to make sure she passed. She was 5'3", about 100 lbs and was totally incapable of starting a chainsaw, raising a ladder, pulling charged lines, holding any nozzle over an inch-and-a-half size, lifting a stretcher, swinging an axe with any effect, was terrified of heights, etc; etc; She was also a fanatical, man-hating feminist who threatened lawsuits any time an attempt was made to hold her accountable for her shortcomings. She expected the department and the men around her to make special accommodations for her inabilities. It was an impossible situation. She eventually just failed to show up for her shift one day, and filed a frivolous lawsuit against the city, the department, and even individuals (not me, oddly. She hated me). The city offered a cash settlement of about 1/20th of what she filed for. She took it and ran. She was employed for about 4 years. It was wrong that she was hired, wrong that she lasted as long as she did because the city was afraid to get rid of her, and wrong that she saw a dime in the end. Sorry for the long rant, but it's been a sore spot with me for years. She was worse than useless and simply horrible on every level.
College professor here. The reality is that conversations like these may be the very first time anyone on campus has engaged these students in a simple critical thinking exercise about their beliefs. That illustrates how politically monolithic campuses are these days. Campuses are often ideological bubbles surrounded by reality.
Colleges sure have changed in the last 20 years. When I went I boycotted a class because the black professor was having a known black bigot as a guest in his class. I said I wouldn’t be there and I struck to it. The next class no hard feelings. Things have obviously worsened.
And as a 20 year old college student I agree with you here. I know of examples of this in my own college (in Eastern Connecticut) since most students don't get questioned by professors about their political beliefs since they normally agree with each other. Instead they simply accept those beliefs (which are mainly far-left ideas politically). So as you said, many colleges become ideological bubbles as a result. But I also have to say I sometimes spend time thinking why so many in my generation act this way (refusing to have discussions about political beliefs when I'm the only one who seems to be involved in it).
Would you like your heart/brain surgeon to be a "diversity hire" (lower scores, but got in because of skin color or the like)?...... Wait you don't, shocker
Sad thing is 33 years ago as a Senior in High school we regularly had to use critical thinking in class discussions...flash forward to 2015 and I'm in my 3rd year of University I was amazed when kids in an Upper Division History class had to have Critical Thinking explained to them...at that time my own son was 15 and he knew what Critical Thinking was and why it needed to be applied in writing an essay for example...his teachers always complimented me on teaching him Critical thinking at an early age and I always blew their minds by telling them that we taught him how to think critically while he was in Elementary school...
@@spardaprowess3277 No, they don't. They think about one issue and give the politically correct answer for that one issue. Then on to the next issue. They never make a comparative analysis in their minds between the answers they've given until confronted with the opposing answers to, what are basically, the same circumstances.
@Kevin Udly - So true. But to the credit of the students in this video, they were able to reprocess their belief in a flawed ideology, when faced with a reason to apply critical thought. That was unexpected, and a very nice surprise.
Still these guys do not understand what they just said. They turned around 180° within a couple of seconds and don’t even realise it. This is our future generation…..
If only the school systems were equal, there might be more diversity on college campuses. I'd love to see a program were the kids from a "good" school get bussed to a "bad" school and the kids from the "bad" school get to go to the "good" one, just to see if it makes a difference and if so, by how much.
The funny thing is that they've ginned up some pseudo studies to claim that more diverse work places outperform others. Of course they didn't compare to ones that focus on meritocracy, nor did they control for workplaces that already respond quickly to the marketplace (including the current wave of "diversity" requirements). So they can now claim that diversity in colleges and workplaces equals better performance, and no one calls out the poor studies for fear of being labeled "racist".
Liberal logic: Quotas that benefit minorities: Diversity is our strength. Quotas that don't benefit minorities: It should be based on their talents and skill.
Exactly. This is the kind of ass-backwards logic that liberals use. Unfortunately, these college kids are a product of liberal professors and what they read on social media. They don't know why they believe something.....they just believe it. Hopefully when they get older and out in the workplace, they realize that diversity quotas don't make sense.
They are constructing a trap for themselves based on virtue. People are not stupid and will exploit the rules of the game to get ahead. Every structure that holds our society together will be attacked under this idea. Post modernist ideology will seek to replace every structure. They are creating standards to equalize rights based on groups rather than a standard for all based on merit through talent and hard work individually. How can anyone not see that this is the opposite of inclusive on a broad scale? It is racist. Making decisions based on group identity has lead to millions of deaths when it goes too far. There is potential in all cultures and backgrounds so their argument that one groups ability to prosper is oppressing another groups ability and the solution is equal outcomes is pure bullshit. Addressing the roadblocks for equality of opportunity is where they should be focused. These professors know this, their goal is not equality at all in my opinion. They know the history and believe they are smart enough to revisit ideologies that have failed many times. They are doing it for power, they wish to mold society because they are arrogant. The enemy is people who push these agenda's. They are playing games with our future as if it is their decision to make. Consider these people in the same way you might view the early supporters of the National socialist party in Germany during the early 30's or Mao supporters during his rise. They need to be stopped. If they are allowed to continue, this could lead to another very dark time in our history. If people could have stopped Stalin or Hitler, should they have done it? Look at all the red flags, they are there. Citizens need to take away power from the media, reform the higher learning institutions and fire radical teachers and watch your government, they are creatures of opportunity who love power more than their country.
what this segment points out is how easy lies fall apart, and how just a nice and simple conversation completely melted away their strong pro diversity feelings, that's why they have to censor and sub-humanize the opposition, cause once the truth clicks in, its there to stay
Your bar is set awfully low when all they have to do is not have a pathetic and threatening melt-down to be 'applauded'.. These people don't actually have opinions, they merely go along with whoever is nearby at the moment.

Here's an idea: remove all the identifying info from applications. Assign every applicant a number. Then, judge the applicants by their merits. That sounds like the most fair to me.
@@orevel You don't start at the university level, though. If a student, no matter their race, isn't prepared then you set them up for failure. Not only that, but for any students of another race or gender it can be harmful by reinforcing negative stereotypes they've learned. The "I guess my uncle was right, Mexicans just aren't as smart as us" kind of backwards thinking. I'm all about need based scholarships so that students can be set up for success, but if you can't make it in by the same standards as everyone else then it's a waste. We aren't going to lower the acceptable standards for medical treatment, engineering, etc. so why should we start anyone down that path that is set up to fail? College entrance requirements exist for a reason. Instead of waiving requirements, let's help kids of all backgrounds get a good education starting in kindergarten, not with university level courses. My sister lives in NYC and she overheard a girl that was really upset on the subway. She'd be accepted into a prestigious university that she wasn't prepared for. She was trying to catch up but other students were way ahead because her high school didn't offer the kind of prep needed, and she was going to have to drop out. She was miserable, but someone out there is probably patting themself on the back for "helping" her.
@@orevel If you have a job right now, but your boss needs to fire one person and hire someone who is the opposite race as you are but is obviously not as skilled as you are in your specific field to meet a diversity quota, and you weren’t even sure if you could find another job, would you be willing to give up your job to this person? After all, don’t forget, it’s not nice to not be inclusive.
@@Lustie You're setting up a hypothetical that is obviously rigged to have people side with your argument. First, your boss is not allowed to fire someone because they are not the right race. That would in fact open them up to a racial discrimination lawsuit. Second, in your example you say that the "opposite race" individual is "obviously not as skilled as you are" , how would you determine that? Just an unfounded accusation meant to bias your hypothetical. Third diversity quotas don't exist the way they're being represented here. Affirmative action regulations provide that goals serve as "targets reasonably attainable by means of applying every good faith effort to make all aspects of the entire affirmative action program work" and that goals "may not be rigid and inflexible quotas, which must be met." Quotas can only be imposed by judicial order to correct a pattern of blatant discrimination. Under the Civil Rights Act, you cannot base a hiring decision, in whole or in part, on a person's race/gender. Affirmative action is intended to ensure that employers hire the most qualified people, including members of groups that previously have been subject to unlawful discrimination. You created a loaded hypothetical that made way to many unfounded assumptions.
Kudos to the presenter for NOT putting the students on the defensive and possibly getting them to think. People beyond college would rarely consider changing their minds.
"Skill-based" is the correct answer across the board - whether in academics or in sports. I've been saying this for years - no names, race or gender should appear on a college application - it should have only the potential student's SSN on it. Who did the best? Who outperformed the other applicants? THAT'S who should be admitted. The student's other "qualifiers" are not relevant. If you don't want to use SSN, assign the applicant a random number. This is NOT HARD, people!
You cannot say skill based due to the fact that we are not talking about skill and more so opportunity. If a student wasn’t introduced to things because of the environment they grew up in placed them in a school district that was inferior to others around the country. And as we know this is all due to your financial status. And that goes to show that they want you for abilities on the field but don’t care otherwise. It is a system designed for some to prosper and others to fail and until people are ready to admit these truths all their arguments are void and pointless.

This is an old argument from around 2014. Same is said "if cops are racist and target blacks, then we need to address the gender arrest gap and either arrest more women or let 40% of men arrested go free"
Plus Affirmative action also goes against what MLK preached in his "I have a dream" speech.... "A man being judged not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. "
Funny thing happens when you poll the students on Socialism as well. You ask them if they agree with Socialism and equity. Many of them are all about the idea, until you ask them if they would be willing to give up some of their GPA to give it to students who have not performed as well. Suddenly they get upset because you are suggesting removing something they have earned and giving it to someone else. The funny thing about Socialism, is it’s always a good idea to the people who may be receiving, and a good idea when you’re taking OTHER peoples money to give to people we don’t have as much. They always seem to suddenly change their tune, when it’s THEIR money you’re talking about taking.

Colleges are great because of how diverse they are. Environments that have lots of differing opinions and perspectives and background are way better learning environments than colleges where every student is a wealthy smart kid.
These colleges are prestigious because of their diversity so if you did away with that diversity no one would want to go to them. If you ask a prospective student if they’d rather go to a school where everyone is similar or one that is diverse everyone is gonna choose the diverse one because why else would you be going to college. It’s the same reason that colleges brag about their demographics because they want people from all backgrounds coming to their school.
You’re looking at it from such two dimensional lens and you’re not thinking about the actual application and reasoning for this diversity in these environments. Also they’re not letting in random students. It’s not like “oh let’s just let in this 2.0 gpa kid because he’s black and screw over this 4.0 white kid” they’re choosing between two qualified applicants and one QUALIFIED applicant might get the edge because they come from a more interesting background. Would you rather let in a 4.2 gpa rich white kid, in a school of all 4.2 rich white kids, or would you let in a 4.0 gpa Latino kid?
I really appreciate that the kids were willing to be open minded and reconsider their positions when confronted with a conflicting position. Many adults I know much older than them are fundamentally unable to do the same thing
It's kinda sad that all these kids default to virtue signaling and regurgitating an answer before thinking about it. That one girl in the orange flip-flopped HARD and didn't bat an eye.
It’s not about equality, for them. It’s about equity. That’s why the oppressed victim mentality is running rampant. Because they believe the more One is able to check the boxes of the qualifications, in what they perceive as oppression - the more opportunities they feel they are entitled to. If it was about equality - it wouldn’t matter, what boxes they check; everyone has the same opportunity, to earn their way into whatever field they desire pursuing.

Yes, but I'd wager you could/should say this about *literally everyone/every citizen,* save for people who have careers involving these issues (politicians, news outlets,...). Most US citizens haven't thoroughly researched/devised their own opinions on all, or even many political issues. That takes serious work/effort.
Little do they realize all the internet they use are run on cell towers. Which are run by fossil fuel.... so......... until they stop posting videos/ watching videos / instant messaging.... I will continue to travel 🤣
They support a crackdown on fossil fuel because they don't spend even 1 minute learning about how the alternatives (sans nuclear) takes more energy to produce than the energy it gives out. To say nothing of how solar panels, wind turbines and batteries cannot be recycled and only have a 10-25 year life cycle. They are quite literally campaigning for less efficient and therefore more expensive energy that will impoverish the world.
@@DeusExDraconian Are you kidding me? Almost everything you just said is flat out incorrect. Nuclear energy does not “take more energy to produce than the energy it gives out”. This is such an utterly moronic statement that I don’t even need a source. Pay attention to thermodynamics in chemistry next class. You are (partially) correct about the lifespan of the things you listed, but you say that as if it’s somehow aiding an argument for fossil fuels when the fossil fuel industry damages entire landscapes, pollutes water supplies, and most importantly, is the primary culprit behind excessive greenhouse gas emissions in the past few centuries. Your argument is akin to saying “Why should I stop smoking if I’m going to breathe in the same air as all the other smokers in the world?” The difference is incomparable. Less efficient does not mean more expensive, ESPECIALLY in the energy sector. But you don’t seem to have any conception of what either of these mean when it comes to energy. Fossil fuels are BY FAR the least efficient source of energy at our disposal. The majority of the energy from the fuels we burn is lost as radiant heat. The reason why we use it is because it’s cheap and readily available. Economics. Duh. Solar is more efficient and cheaper than fossil fuels: news.energysage.com/solar-energy-vs-fossil-fuels/ Nuclear is FAR more efficient and, while expensive to start up, infinitely cheaper to run than fossil fuel plants: www.energy.gov/ne/articles/nuclear-power-most-reliable-energy-source-and-its-not-even-close
@@desuvult15 Re-read what he wrote. Sans means, not including. You have a lot of gross conceptual errors. Fossil fuels are more or less clean. The water, the air, the environment has never been more clean. Nuclear is not efficient but the fuel is basically free. Nat Gas plants run 70% efficient Nuclear is more expensive than Nat Gas with current NG prices. Solar panels will run 98% efficient, but they only work where you have, wait for it, wait..sunshine. Coal and nuclear are about 30% with nuclear fuel being basically free. You can get get up to 45% efficient coal plants with very high pressure/temp cycles. Wind takes power from a "free" source, just like the solar. Again, not scalable. Hydro same thing. The impact of Fossil fuels to our environment when weighed with the benefit is small.

The issue is deeper than that. Quotas are primarily a giant cover-up. Political leaders know that they can avoid ever having to answer for their pathetic failures in the lower socioeconomic public school systems if we just artificially force these underperforming students into colleges. They do NOT care.
There's no need to address inner-city school violence, or lack of attendance, poor grades etc, if you just keep shoveling students from that area into a college slot they don't deserve. Why bother to fix those broken schools in the Ghetto, where many of the schools are run down and half functioning, "More students of X Y Z race have been to college under me than any other X Y Z representative...(Just nevermind about the schools that closed/number of people who dropped out, or flunked out entirely)."
Which actually just leads to higher droppout rates as unqualified individuals don't get pushed through their courses. You end up with worse racial ratios after the first year.
Yes of course blame the schools, teachers, etc. instead of actually blaming the students, the parents and the society they perpetuate for not trying harder in school, for turning to selling drugs and crime. @@jimmoses6617 Thanks for the comment. Note "the best person" doesn't always mean the smart or smartest person, just the best (possible, available) person in the candidate pool at a particular time and place. As such, even publicly funded schools can do well to find their best available students, even if on a more absolute basis these students aren't always (considered) the cream of the crop.
I take it you are socialist then. Because that concept only works if you believes we should all have the same standard of schooling - at least in our formative years. You can't claim to believe "may the best person win" and then say you don't have a problem with someone getting a massive head start through private schooling or tutoring as happens in a capitalist system. This video is dumb, if you can identify discrimination that had led to white players being under-represented on the football team then we can start to talk about the necessity of quotas to correct it. Frankly the relatively low percentage of black players who are QBs compared to every other position (other than K or P) is probably the most likely example of discrimination you can find on the football field.
@@cookslooking10 Not exactly. "May the best person win" applies as long as the criteria and process in picking / selecting / rewarding the best person is the same for all participants / candidates. Whether the participants / candidates have the same exact degree of talent, skill, knowledge, training, experience, and resources, be this natured or nurtured, before the selection process begins is immaterial to the vigor of the "best person" practice. Perhaps it might seem only fair to some that participants should have almost, if not the exact same, equal competence before the selection begins. But this is impractical. Insistence on this would mean canceling all competition (matches, games, examinations, tests etc) e.g. the Olympics. The medal winners generally not only have better trainers and coaches, but also better resources in terms of government encouragement, societal affection for the particular sport, and so on. Sometimes even geography is an advantage e.g. ski medal winners tend to come from snowy countries. Moreover, the assumption that the better endowed (richer, more schooled etc) participants would always win, however defined, is suspect. I had grade school classmates who were quite endowed but did not become successful persons, be this in financial or achievement terms; whereas quite a few less endowed, even disadvantaged, classmates have achieved something in their life.

Sometimes the interview is on the phone so they don’t see the candidate. Yes, large corporations care about their ratios, but they also want the best fit. They are under some pressure these days to make their senior management look more diverse. It’s wrong to force someone out based on their skin color, but I do believe at the most senior levels it’s happening.
The more troubling issue is that every student was for diversity quotas and answered without skipping a beat after being asked the initial question and never gave legitimate answers as to why they feel diversity quotas are a supposed good thing and then once posed with the hypothetical about the same principle being applied to sports every single answer started out with “its skill” and “ I didn’t think about it like that” So before thinking these young adults are just spouting off a pc answer to a serious question without thinking about it. Regardless of how college is a political monolith ideologically these days, this sample group of young adults just showed that they lack critical thinking skills and the ability to sit and think about a topic or question before they answer and that inability to think has been instilled in them long before attending college.
Yeah when you consider that we are talking about public policy, and public policy ultimately meaning men with guns cramming this down everyone's throats, for anyone to want legislation without having really given it even the most casual of thought, is disturbing. Public policy should be concise, effective, and most importantly constitutional, and it should not be considered likely. People want stuff nowadays to happen fast and ask questions later. "If it doesn't work out, we will just repeal it" they say even though that mostly doesn't happen.
They're programmed. Simple critical thinking can break it though because its so obviously wrong. That's why the left's main tool is censoring and silencing.
Not sure if I agree with the diversity for both because one is education and no race should be denied this and the other is a performance sport which requires skill and physical strength. How can diversity be applied to College sport if one is physically weak or weaker by comparison?

Almost no hockey player born in December makes it into the big leagues. Bill Gates had $50,000 to buy DOS as well as other advantages that most do not have. She eventually just failed to show up for her shift one day, and filed a frivolous lawsuit against the city, the department, and even individuals (not me, oddly. She hated me). The city offered a cash settlement of about 1/20th of what she filed for. She took it and ran.

Hey there buster! You're making too much sense here! Better knock that off!

Economics. Duh.
Solar is more efficient and cheaper than fossil fuels: news.energysage.com/solar-energy-vs-fossil-fuels/

Fossil fuels are more or less clean. The water, the air, the environment has never been more clean.
Nuclear is not efficient but the fuel is basically free.
Nat Gas plants run 70% efficient
Nuclear is more expensive than Nat Gas with current NG prices.

That’s actually a really good point. I hadn’t thought of it from that angle.
Exactly
Which actually just leads to higher droppout rates as unqualified individuals don't get pushed through their courses. You end up with worse racial ratios after the first year.
Yes of course blame the schools, teachers, etc. instead of actually blaming the students, the parents and the society they perpetuate for not trying harder in school, for turning to selling drugs and crime. It's not the government's responsibility to raise their children better but you can blame Democrats for the welfare state and for destroying the black household and family unit, that much I will give you.

"May the best person win!" Whether in school, business, or sports.
@@jimmoses6617 ummm... schools use grades to figure this out; really kind of the entire point is to promote the smartest, most driven and brightest among us to take more education to later achieve greater results and outcomes.
