I was a manager at best buy, radioshack both for many years. I also worked as an account manager supporting walmart, costco, Sams club, apple store.
Can confirm they throw away old endcap items even in good working condition. Never understood why.
They do throw away the boxes from displays too. It typically will have all the accessories in the boxes.
They typically would have a tag on the box though.

Me and my husband use to dumpster dive all the time we furnished 4 houses that way I had name brand everything. So to the other guy being so negative it really does happen that's why people do it.
