The German crew of Altmark did not resist the English sailors, but tried to flee by jumping into the sea and swim to shore. The English sailors shot and killed six Germans (most likely unarmed), some while swimming in the fjord, or having reached the shore. There are no good or bad nation - there are good and bad men.
The Altmark was a Kriegsmarine ship carrying british sailors (civilians not Royal Navy) that should have been released at a neutral port like Buenos Aires. Taking them to Germany was against the rules of war and the Geneva conventions as well as the law of the sea.
Blaming Britain for the invasion of Norway rather than Germany? Dafuq am I reading...? It's like the military equivalent of 'the clothes fault, not the rapist'. There were plans to invade Norway whatever the excuse.
While we in Norway always think of the Altmark Incident as a grave breach of trust and breach of neutrality, we do not blame Britain for the invasion of Norway. The Germans had made deals with Quisling and the planning had been in motion from well before the incident. To be honest it is rubbish this incident actually caused the invasion of Norway, it just added an excuse. The invasion would have happened even with no excuse. After all the very same date, 9th of April, also saw the invasion of Denmark, and Denmark had nothing to do with Altmark.
torbk Shhh... some people think the Allies were as bad as the Axis, and were the ones who started the war! You'll upset them! (What I wrote higher was sarcasm. I actually agree with you.)
Sorry this is late, but that wasn't the first time. I recommend reading into First Lord Churchill's actions during WWI, specifically with his involvement in the Royal Navy.
tasman_devil Sure, the British sailors were going to be loaded off and freed. Right. Do you really think Hitler would have not invaded Norway without that? They invaded the Netherlands, even though they were totally neutral and wanted no part in the war. They would still have invaded Norway, most likely. The UK could have tried to negotiate for the sailors' release, but that would have been giving nazi Germany a leverage. And we didn't need to give them one.
I wish cossack could do that when ever I get close to a enemy bb in game. Just sailo... I mean pirates jump onto the enemy deck and capture their ship.
godwrote01 yep the Graf Spee , a week ago i was checking the pictures rleased for new german destroyers , and between the pictures the Graf Spee was included she will be added as Premium as i know
So, everyone is complaining that Britain disrespected Norway's borders to save 300 POWs, but ask yourself this: Why didn't Norway let them search the ship in the first place? Even if they didn't want British ships to enter Norwegian waters (which seems unlikely, given that German ships were already in Norwegian waters), would it have been so hard for them to search it themselves, on the grounds that they believed it may be carrying prisoners?
Everyone's mad at Britain for saving their captured sailors (who likely had endured and survived a conflict) from a inevitable and certain horrid death. Yet, no one is angry at Norway knowingly staying neutral against the Nazi's regime. Admittedly, Norway had to consider their population and little defenses, despite other nations with even smaller armies doing more. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" - Dispute over the quote however, the principle is the same.
So you're telling me that British POW captured by German's would of been treated to tea parties. Or the American's captured by the Japanese played rollie-pollie? Are you completely numb to all sides of the horrors faced by those unfortunate to be captured?
"In November 1942, British survivors of Operation Freshman were executed." Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commando_Order *There are many others* You have insulted many unfortunate man/ soliders executed by your comment, so pay some respect to those who fought for your freedom of speech and remember their suffering.
"After the Normandy landings, 34 SAS soldiers and a USAFF pilot were captured during Operation Bulbasket and executed. Most were shot, but three were killed by lethal injection while recovering from wounds in hospital. How is any other these a "Pretty high survival rate and treated pretty good"? So you can do some research before telling others who raise valid and historic points to "STFU". You piece of s*** for a human being.
smhxjd2 34 SAS soldiers and one US pilot executed. Even if they had been 5000 to be executed, that would still have been very few, compared to the total number of allied servicemembers captured by the Germans who survived the war.
If you mean the part where Germany invaded Norway over this, that was just an excuse, from what I know, the response time showed that plans to invade were already underway. Also, the British breaching neutrality isn't really something to invade over, especially since the Germans did it too
Cossack the very ship that took the Cat Interesting

overwatch battleship version
GG WP Britain, you dunked Norway into chaos for 300 prisoners.
Actually Germany only needed an excuse to invade so that they could get Norway's heavy water for their nuclear experiments...
Telemark ring a bell...
and Britain gave it to them as it is not hard to make out from my original comment.
"Vidkun Quisling" ring a bell
If anyone gave Norway to the Germans, it was him.

And you sank the Blücher with two 28 cm shells and two torpedoes when they invaded, saving the gold reserve and the royal family through the delay =)

A story about the Royal Navy even though the RN still hasn't been added to the game. GG.
I love those animation-comic-stories!
1:33. Wargaming i need this music please.
Prime minister Winston Churchill? Chamberlain was still PM at that time (He resigned after the fall of Norway)... Get your facts straight WG!!!
Yeah, Winston was then only a First Lord of the Admiralty. But he did take this decision (and responsibility) alone.
I assume they meant "future prime minister."

Sorry Norway
`brilliant idea Wg try not to copy jingles too much or better yet employ him to do these
Since when has Jingles copyrighted telling naval stories? If you want to hear Jingles speak you go to his channel.
bit harsh i did say it was a good idea but since most people have heard of similar stories it would be nice to get as little over lap as possible
Well since my comment got deleted i will say it again: Has Jingles copyrighted naval stories? If you want to hear Jingles you go to his channel.
Your comment did not get deleted and you already had an answer.
this dude is probably one of those trying to learn about history by watching ''jingles's videos''
Laughable....
I guess the saying sail me closer so I can hit them with my sword applies here
Easter egg! I guess...
Destroyer Cossack is the ship that unsinkable Sam was in!
Not at the time, no. Sam wouldn't have boarded the Bismarck by then, since Bismarck sailed in May.
So basically Churchill was handing them Norway for the 300 Prisoners who were probably on their way to be loaded off anyways. GG

Because of the British? You mad, bro'?

Right, because Hitler had an impeccable record of fastidiously waiting for a genuinely appropriate reason before waging war on other countries.
boring
