Soccer players may not be the best athletes but they have lots of skill.I Know that you are just joking but controlling, dribbling, passing and shooting with accuracy using your legs is not that easy. Also soccer players especially the midfielders have a great IQ for the game.Last soccer players have amazing stamina because they need to run on a huge field for 90 minutes.
The Greek7 I’m not taking anything away from soccer players but half the time they just stand there
literally every soccer player that routinely plays 90 minutes averages like 9 miles a game...
Cladmagician504 also any other sport people stand around in between every play of football, baseball when a team is batting, nbas a little different as they slightly jog usually or are just standing, other sports to but, I’m not taking away from these players but, it’s just not a good argument for this discussion as in every sport one will be standing still for some amount of time. You have to factor what that player does during that time. Is he/ she thinking or are they turned off( baseball). It’s more than just physical sometimes.
I think this is mostly a discussion about physical attributes and athleticism such as overall strength, speed, explosiveness and power, endurance, agility, etc.
Soccer players on average are both the best athletes and most skilled athletes
Esports of course how is this even a discussion
Logan 06 haha😂 u got me dying
Soccer bc it’s 90 min of pure running with leg strength of an elephant combined with eyes of a (eyesight animal)
Hahahaa leg strength of an elephant? Messi squats less than ur average 16 year old who goes to the gym
Ice hockey, ice hockey combined almost everything from strength to being light on your feet. It is one of the fastest sport as people are skating at least 2 as fast as people run which makes the hits all the more punishing. That means you hand eye and your awareness must be as fast or even faster. Also it uses just about every major body part from the front of your feet to your head. Ice hockey incorporates almost everything that classifies someone as a great athlete.
I have to pick baseball players over hockey players.
I have taught gym in Canada for many years and have coached volleyball and basketball at the Jr. high level for years as well. I played most sports to one degree or another growing up and played basketball throughout including 2 years in college. What I have found, and I see it every year, is that guys that grew up playing hockey will often come out for basketball in grade 6 or 7 to give it a go. I find these guys very fit usually (most play soccer or baseball in the summer) and easy to coach.
but to be honest, I find many of them really struggle with the coordination and agility required to play basketball. Hockey is a speed and power game while basketball demands a ton of quickness, finesse and body control. On the other hand they take very well to volleyball. Not always the case but more often than not. Each sport has its unique athletic demands. Hard to compare head to head.
I reckon it's probably decathlon, it's literally about jumping high, running fast, strength and stamina. They are the most well rounded imo but others might be more specialist.
Uh while I agree that overall other sports have better athletes than futbol, it is literally irrefutable that soccer is the most popular sport, and I can argue the best sport. Because, it is one of the most skill heavy major sports out there, there is no "combine" in futbol because everything is about feel and intangibles. You can look at some of the best futbol players in the history of the sport and most of them are not insanely gifted athletes, notable exceptions being Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among others, but rather they have such high futbol iq and manage to see the game as not many people can. There's a certain magic that surrounds them, its not the raw athletic power of sports like rugby and football, or the flexibility and high flying acrobatics of basketball, its about how you feel when you watch them play and how they can see and play the game like no one else can. out of the 5 best futbol players of all time that I can think of: Messi, Pele, Maradona, Best, Ronaldo. 4 of them were little guys, with speed and above all skill. They weren't athletic freaks because its not what is required out of futbol, you need finesse and smarts and above all a god gifted talent for the game. There's a reason futbol is the most popular sport in the world, there's a reason whenever a national team plays crime rates literally drop in the country, theres a reason the most important tournament and the second most important and even the third most important blows every other sport's ratings out of the water, and theres a reason why its called the beautiful game.
Its magical, its beautiful, its exciting to watch and it brings everyone together. I'm not discounting other sports, I have great admiration for baseball, football, basketball, and hockey alike. But there is nothing like watching Lionel Messi take apart 3 or 4 defenders at once and then tucking the ball into the bottom far corner of the goal.
I don't mind people saying soccer players aren't the best athletes, its honestly okay. But when it comes to the best sport overall, there is nothing like the beautiful game.
MexicanOnGames good point, but hockey players have to do all the same shit while playing at full contact and on ice....
Love this response. I appreciate your love for the game.
As I said, I'm not arguing for athleticism, I'm arguing for best sport. I agree completely that hockey players are better athletes than soccer players, in fact I would rank hockey just below soccer in level of excitement. I just have such a deep rooted love for soccer that I can't see any other sport like it.
I admire other sport's athletes because of their power, strength, speed, and skill but in my mind there is just something so magical about soccer that I have looked for and can not find in any other sport.
Thank Rob! I love the show btw.
This is how you make an argument
Footballers (soccer) are the best athletes because they are combination of strength (leg strength), speed, endurance, stamina, foot-eye coordination, etc and Cristiano Ronaldo is the most athletic, fittest and healthiest athlete across all sports.
Soccer players have got speed, strength, agility, balance, endurance, stamina, hand-eye coordination (goalkeeper), foot-eye coordination (outfield players), jumping (cb and targetman) and flexibility
@klaw Who the heck is Mike?
I miss this series. I was looking for this channel before but forgot the name for it.
It was a great, SUPERB channel for sports lovers.
Tennis players. A combination of strength, speed, agility, hand eye coordination, endurance, technique, and power.
No
AFL, catching like a wide reciever, speed like soccer players at the height of basketball players, tackling like defensive ends, punting like a punter... and all of these skills in one player... great sport.
Basketball if you ask me. If you look at it, no other sport has guys that are 6’8 and can run, jump out of the building. There’s so many stars who are so different, it varies from athleticism like Lebron to shooting like curry. Plus how many athletes have you seen like giannis who are 7 feet tall and can cover area quickly with only two steps? There’s just so many players in the nba who are amazing to watch. Kevin Durant is physically insane also. Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving, Krystaps porzingis, James harden, kawhi Leonard, Karl Anthony towns, and there’s so many more player who physically just blow you away but that’s just me.
Aj green's Biggest fan Zdeno Chara is 6’9 (7’0 on skates) and a few years ago he was a top 5 player in the nhl
LittleBilly69 damn
Derek Farrell true but still amazing
AFL (AKA Aussie Rules) Combines Basketball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee and Rugby. No padding like in NFL. Can jump on players shoulders unlike basketball, can tackle and use hands unlike soccer, have to catch the ball wth the fear someone could hit you in the back unlike rugby. Very long matches and players run more miles (kilometres) on average than all the sports I mention combined.
Water polo.
I can tell Rob King was in the band in high school he was on varsity all 4 years
If we’re talking about all around athleticism, it would definitely be football. Speed, agility, strength, conditioning, stamina, you name it. Football also does the best at representing most athletic body types. No other sport has it where the best athletes in their league could be a mix of a 250 pound, 6 foot 6 big boy and a 190 pound, 6 foot nothing. Without those different body types and different styles of play or positions because of it, football wouldn’t be as good as it is. Think about it, in every other sport, it’s usually pretty tall maybe shorter guys that are built around the same way. The only exception I could really see is in baseball. You can have some big hitters in baseball that are also big guys. David Ortiz is a good example. However, it’s mostly in football. Because of different body types, we see some many different forms of athleticism in one game.
I would say hockey players, due to the fact that they are extremely strong, agile, flexible, and fast. The average person can usually play soccer, football, or whatever, but to be good at hockey takes a lot more effort and skill.
Strong and flexible I agree with, but take of a hockey players skis and there not as fast as a basketball point guard
@@jflash3711 False
Jason C ice skating does not require as much athleticism as it does to run like a wide receiver or running back. It does take skill to skate fast tho
@@jflash3711 According to your shitty logic swimming and cycling requires no athleticism. Every speed skater is stronger than a sprinter. It take much more power, balance, coordination, faster movement with not just your leg, endurance cause your using all your muscles. ESPn ranked sports by a number of sports scientists and members of Olympic committee. They put hockey as the no. 1 team sport in terms of difficulty. It was based on athleticism not skill.
@@jflash3711 Hockey isn't just ice skating. It's a collision sport. Watch NHL biggest hits and you'll see what I'm talking about. The sport requires immense strength, durability, burst of power, endurance and agility, speed and acceleration
all star cheer is really challenging, i’m not saying it’s the most challenging because every sport is difficult in different ways but all star cheerleaders lift people above their head and throw them and it can take years to get certain tumbling skills and not everyone can do it. If you’ve never seen all star cheer please look up just one routine from the world championships on youtube. I know a lot of people will say cheerleaders just wave pom poms and yell go team but we do so much more than that.
i think its hockey. you need so much strength, smarts, and toughness, and do this all while on ice. you need so much skill and athleticism to make it, you cant just make it on size alone(nba, or football linemen) you also need so much skill. the only sports i think you could argue take more skill is lacrosse and rugby
Goalie is the hardest position in the world they have to pass like a normal player and leap across a huge goal and also have crazy reaction times and leg strength . Or are we not counting all positions and the soccer players don’t use a combine because that’s a waste of time And the fastest altheses are often not the best players as is true in all sports so they just have players come and train with them
I personally would have to say rugby players are the best athletes in the world. They play a sport that is on the level as american football when it comes to hard hittingness and the only protective gear is a little piece of plastic you put in your mouth and maybe a soft scrum cap. Which compared to american football players with helmets, shoulder pads and other safety equipment. Also have such a wide spectrum of what a rugby player can be built like just like in american football. You have speedy backs that could run 40 yards at the same speeds as running backs, wide receivers or defensive backs, just look up the highlights for carlin isles. At the same time you have huge 20 stone men that run over people. Also need to consider the fact that rugby is a constantly flowing game no breaks like in some other sports some of the 20 stone players playing the full 80 minutes. There is also large amounts of technique involved in rugby.
boo13dog rugby players don't hit as hard I've played both
boo13dog I will say the conditioning in football is less intense but if you hit with the same velocity as in football you would break bones routinely as in you would see 2-3 players per match with multiple rib fractures
ruclips.net/video/o7GWGHTkMlM/видео.html
That video seems pretty nfl like
boo13dog I'm not trashing your sport trust me nothing but the greatest respect but look up Ray Lewis sports science, they proved that a non padded hit from him at football speeds would break ribs literally every time he had any speed accumulated.
Rugby has the best athletes! U need to play for 40 mins straight with physical no pad contact! It takes strength speed and agility!
Hockey then rugby, hockey is rugby on ice with the same intensity
Basketball in general requires some significant athleticism, especially if you are average height. It definitely requires the most dexterity, hands down, no pun intended. It also arguably requires the most leg strength, to not just run but sprint and stop suddenly, and of course jump high.
All with next to no equipment or gear.
Equipment and gear makes all of that much harder
Esports, they need immaculate hand eye coordination, reflexes, and teamwork.
Track and field I think.
Supercross/Motocross
I think hockey players because they have to be faster than any other sport while also having a lot of hard contact and smooth moves
Anyone who says soccer players are the least athletic hasn’t played a full 90 min ever.
Swimming and water polo have the best athletes. You’re using your entire body the entire time you are competing.
Football may have the better athletes but I think apart from the quarterback pro soccer takes more skill. Football has so many positions that you can choose what skill to focus on, like throwing or catching, but you have to be the best with your feet only in soccer, meaning your competing with everyone that plays soccer instead of the people in your position like football
Blah one kicker is a football position 2 every soccer position is easier than football
Playing soccer in general is the skill equivalent of a quarterback. The kicker only has one job-to kick the football in a straight line. Not exactly the best comparison to soccer.
@@georgeyu9898 The only thing being an NFL kicker would prepare you for in soccer is free kicks (especially deep ones) and penalty kicks.
Football because if you take the best of each sport then you to be durable (getting hit almost every play) fast in both agility and speed (to juke or fake out opponents or just having to out run them) endurance( most games are 1 hour) reaction time is needed( slightest change in position can mean the world) all while wearing a 3 pound helmet and 4 pound pads
josiah reyes I mostly agree with you football players are freakish athletes but they don’t really need an insane amount of endurance it’s more strength and power
Austin Rawlins it is mostly based of position like if you look at linemen you have to block or over power your matchup from any length of time
Baseball basketball and football
Good point ....:-D
nfl and mlb players don't have the stamina to play in other sports
My argument for this subject is that compare the best Athletes of the sports. Soccer: Ronaldo. Hockey: Mcdavid. Basketball: Lebron James. Football: Tom Brady. In my opinion the best athlete of these is Ronaldo by a lot. So I think Soccer players are the best athlete.
Hockey has the all around best athletes
American football, Basketball and boxing.
Football players are REAL muscular and heavy and yet could have blinding speed and even leaping ability and not just physical strength. I am not sure there is any other team sport where, aside from the prospective athlete's height, weight, age and his particular stats (yards, TDs, batting average, ERA, points/rebounds/assists per game, goals scored or goals saved, etc) in that sport, you also have scouts check the prospect's running speed times, vertical jump, etc. It's as if the prospect were trying out for a spot in the Olympics, not the NFL. So football it is. But having said that, the other team sports have their merit too: baseball players need to either hit or throw a 90+ mph fastball and that is such a supreme athletic achievement far above what a "normal" human being can do. Basketball players are so freaking tall and yet are so agile and come on, few non-athletes (even the tall ones) in the world can dunk a basketball. Hockey players have to skate at great speeds while balancing their hockey sticks, and still firing accurate slap shots. You even have to be ready to engage in fisticuffs at times. Even soccer players have to combine great speed with great stamina and endurance as they play two 45-minute halves with absolutely no rest. But again, in the end, gridiron football has the best athletes imho.
Hockey
Cyclists , the Tour de France is the most gruelling sports competition . It’s cycling 8 hours a day for 3 weeks straight at nearly 40km/hr . It pushes your body to the limit day after day .
Conor Walsh boxers are ten times as fit as cyclists. They do all that road and take physical beatings to the head and body. If you don't believe get someone to punch you in the liver and then try and cycle any ware
With that logic, you can include marathon runners.
CTback to endure something is a trait not a sporting feat.
David Mackenzie yeah i get what your saying but boxers only compete every couple of months whereas cycling is constant exhaustion
Conor Walsh yeah and they're all juiced up to the eye balls. It's not a clean sport, okay no sport is clean however cycling is rife. Wigings cheated, frome cheated. Yes it's not cheating on the industrial scale that happened in the Armstrong days but its still cheating.
Baseball due to the fact that anyone can make a layup. But not anyone can hit a 95mph baseball
Golf
Alex Needham what?
Haha good one
😂 omg you're so *funny* lolololololol
Decathlon!!! Athletics now it’s purist form. They need to be good at sprinting, Jumping, throwing, endurance.
If you are good at pole vaulting and the shot put, then you go and run a sub 4:20 in 1500 m, that puts you a a very select group of humanity.
Also check out world record holder Ashton Eaton. He accidentally jumped over a 6.5 ft wall on a banked indoor Track fell 15 feet on the other side (the track is banked and raised above the floor) and landed on his feet like a cat.
True, but decathalon is an event not a sport.
Definitely NFL or nba players because football players can take hits if you put a baseball player on a football team he would be placed on ir even if he sat on the bench. Nba players have amazing skill the ability to jump and put a ball in a hoop over ten feet is amazing
Bobsleders have to be really agile, quick and very strong
Where do you guys think Saquon Barkley is going to go?
Browns (1st)
Giants
Colts
Browns (4th)
Later
Sneaky Ben I'd the Browns are smart browns 1st
Sneaky Ben Browns 4th.
Sneaky Ben 1st and then next best QB at 4
Winter biathlon cause skiing is tougher than running, have to balance and use both arms and leg strength. Shooting requires hand-eye coordination while you're tired from skiing. PLus everything has to done in the cold with two fucking blades on your feet
The blades on the feet mention really sold me.
Football is based purely on athleticism . No other sport is like that
N'golo kante stamina, Vincent Carter hops. Lionel Messi Talent, Kobe clutchness, Z'deno chara physical body, Usain bolt quickness and ungot the best athlete of all time
Football players are the best athletes because they got speed, strength, versatility, etc
Curling; not even close because there's no other sport where you can use your skills in the house
basketball. They have the best athletes by far. Take the 25 best NBA players and have them do anything against the top 25 MLB, Tennis, Soccer, and football players and the NBA players will win.
There is not a single American sport team player that would be able to do the running to a single football match. The average American football player runs 1¼ miles a world footballer does that in the first 10 minutes of a game.
Good good
Hockey. They the toughest around
Soccer athletes can't do nothing without their feet but basketball players can do stuff without their hands. 🤔
I personally don't like the combine, it's a glorified workout. Every player at the combine are there because they are good PLAYERS, not because they have a good 40 time. Nothing but respect for Griffin, he had an awesome workout, but just because he ran a faster 40 and more benches than Roquan Smith doesn't mean he's the better player. People gotta stop hyping this stuff up.
Hockey has a combine ya dunce
Football players are the best athletes What other sport determines a player's worth based on how fast they run?
Rob has anyone told you you kinda look like Patty Mills?
Many people.
Football(soccer)
Gymnastics
Or maybe decathlon
Soccer because the players have to play 2 45 minute halves with 3 subs the whole game
Football players have to play 3 hours of football with many subs to🦧😑
No specific skill? (For instance the best skaters would be hockey players.) I'd go with Navy seals or something.
Get Ricky Sanchez on the podcast
It's rugby player they have the size, strength and speed of America football player but have to run for a full 80 mins no breaks every 3 minutes
MMA or boxing for sure
No way. Soccer is literally running up and down a big ass field for long periods of time. Do you know the endurance, speed, and agility that takes? There are so many stops and pauses in between the gameplay in Football it's not even close to being as physically challenging. Plus being able to dribble a soccer ball requires a lot more finesse than most Football players have. Football players maybe stronger, but that's about the only thing they have over Soccer players. Personally I think Basktetball has the best athletes because it's a combination of the 2.
Basketball
All I know is that it’s not Curling lol
hockey because you need to be incredibly strong because of the hitting, so you got the strength of like football players but you need to be fast and they have the speed and quickness of a basketball player and can throw punches like mma fighters. you need a good shot very good hand eye coordination strong ankles and wrists good edges tough as nails. so many skills involved where like football you really can just be an athletic freak and make it far. or in the nba you can be a tall athletic freak who has never played the game, and a year of practicing later you can be a D1 athlete who can go pro. for hockey no matter how good of an athlete you are you cant just learn the other things quickly you need to develope all of the skills for your whole live and be the best at all of those skills. athletics is enough to get by in most sports but hockey you need athletics plus skills that need to be learned throughout your whole life. hockeys not even my favorite sport aswell
Chess. Chess players have an I.Q that no sports players have and could also be athletic
Soccer because they a perfect the mix of players
Hat Trick Goals what?
Hat Trick Goals how does that make any sense
Soccer is the best runners, but nothing else
no theyre fast and cardiovascularly fit but soccer is one of the easiest sports i know
Ice hockey is the most difficult sport.
Us sports are more physically oriented albeit euro is more technical
Football has the best athletes. I'm not even trying to be biased. The physical and mental toughness combined that need to have to play the sport of football is unmatched by other sports. The way that football uses every part of the body, legs, arms, hands, your body in general and even your mind. It's just unmatched by any other sport. (And I know, I've played MULTIPLE sports)
SooperDooperSam ever played hockey?
ben minkin vlogs actually yeah, but I totally forgot about that lol. That does take a lot of both physical and mental strength
Ever played afl?
It's football without pads everyone taking hits playing offense and defense without as many breaks and timeouts
ill say tennis
Anyone in this comment section ever hear about Boxing/MMA? Those athletes are superior to all
Tbh Curling players obviously
Just realized Westbrook could succeed in any sport you can name (except maybe hitting or pitching a baseball). Imagine if Westbrook boxed against other guys his size
Maybe not ice hockey
There is no "best athlete". You can't compare someone who, say, excels in sprinting against someone who's great at long distance running.
rugby
Soccer
Soccer because you have to have great iq and you have to really good stamina and it is way harder than. You think
golf the hand eye coordination is excellent need the proper angle to get the ball in the hole which mean there not only athletes theyre mathletes and how astonishing is it when you see the player hit a ball over 10 yards. 10 YARDS! i dont think you can hit ten yards but i certainly cant, as well as those they also have to have enough strength to hit the ball so gentle the ball can go in the hole, as far im aware of you arent strong enough to hit a ball in a hole
this a joke btw golf aint a sport
Haha.
Rugby. Easy.
Waterpolo you are always treading water and getting tackled no question
TBH it’s actually bowling duh 🙄
Darts - not only do you have to have great aim but you have to be able to throw the dart without spilling your beer
Y'all keep talking about basketball, football, soccer, all these decent sports.
But I'll never act like Golf doesn't have the best of the best athletes.
When did a golfer run 22mph? Or jump high enough to jump over someone?
@@TheReeelBradPitt First of all, my comment is from 4 years ago.
Second of all, we're on the same side. That's what I'm fucking saying.
Boxing has great athletes but leg strength is lower
Boxers
MMA
You have to play football or soccer (🙄) for an hour and a half running all day
Hurling has the best athletes they have a baseball on a stick and hit it at 150km/phr and hit each other with the sticks
Yup better athletes 10 seconds at a time.
Aussie rules football
he ask for facts but didn't really go into to detail as to why soccer does not
soccer u have to play 90
