2nd penalty wasn’t even a penalty, she was striking the ball and the Spanish players leg just so happened to be in the path of the South African players follow through 🤦🏼♀️
She hit the Spanish player with her studs up after the ball was cleared and kept the leg straight aka did not flex away or bend out of the clash => dangerous play. Bad technique for the shot leads to uncontrolled fall and in this case dangerous collision with another player for no reason.
Neither of them were penalties. The first - the defending player's arm was in a natural position. As you turn your body - your arm naturally move upwards. The second looked clumsy, but the defending player got to the ball first and exhibited no malicious intent. The attacking player should have anticipated the opposing player's leg would rise to that height.

Think for yourself Ref. The VAR doesn't show intent it shows the action. The lady slipped after striking the ball and the foot slid upwards. Use VAR for proper stuff like an off-side goal that went in or an on-side goal that was flagged off.
As far as I can tell VAR is there so that the prefered favorites can get a penalty kick to decide the games that are close. If I was coaching I'd tell my teams to kick at the arms in the box. Don't even worry about being on goal, jut kick hard and fast at any opposing player in the box and then raise your hands calling for a hand ball.

I know it wasn't anything special the 2nd PK..Unfortunately it was in the box, the sending off for the second yellow was correct. You can never go cleats up, automatic card no matter the impact.

Manuel Retzlaff after she cleared it I think it’s the follow through I’ve watched when a player slide to get the ball and even though they got the the ball the follow through the refs more than likely gives a free kick but I never saw it for a penalty before

Absolute rubbish penalty!!! Its purely a sporting incident..
Look carefully.. RSA defender had already lifted her feet n had full ball contact even before the Spain player had landed her left foot on the ground, means dat its the Spain player who ran into contact to the defender instead.
Explain to me in physics terms how can u pull sudden brakes to ur motion immediately the moment after u kicked a ball ???

Yeah, the second PK was harsh but please don't let this referee decision dampen the spanish performance, they were still clearly above (and the referee decided on her own, the spanish team didn't even ask for the penalty!!) Congrats Spain
