    This is the best automatic explanation video I have seen. I used to panic that once I had set off I immediately had to gauge how much acceleration I needed and press the acceleration pedal. I realise now in an automatic I don't have to. That's a fundamental difference to me as a very nervous learner. Learned how to drive Manual entirely with the help of your videos ("clutch down, first gear, handbreak off..."), passed and got my license, and fell in love with driving. At my family's insistence though, had to sell my manual and the new one's an automatic, and you're absolutely right. It's just not fun anymore, not being involved with the gear.
    They should make cars that have convertible transmission or something, that Auto lovers can drive Auto and Manual lovers can do it manually.

    • @no.7893
      @no.7893 2 года назад

      I mean I think most modern automatic transmissions (or at least Dual clutch transmissions anyway) allow for the driver to leave the gearing to the cars ECU or the driver can take control of the gears themselves by pushing the gear shifter into a manual position or by using paddle shifters as seen in this video. The only aspect of it that you really miss out on is clutch control as I'm not aware of any car that allows the driver to choose between automated and manual control without requiring an entire transmission swap.

    I started doing driving lessons in 2021. I did about 40 hours worth of lessons. I started doing driving lessons again a few weeks ago and I still keep yanking the gear stick, it slips into another gear. I’ve got everything else sorted but this is my downfall with manuals. I’m autistic so it’s taking me too long to pick it all up, and a lot of money. I really wanted to switch to automatic and after watching this and finding out the car doesn’t roll on a hill… I’m going to give up manual lessons immediately! This seems so much more fun and joyful. Instead of worrying about gear changes and clutches, all you have to do is focus on the road. Thanks for this video.

I passed in a manual and my husband and all my family kept saying I had to pass in a manual and eventually I will love it. I passed first time and I'm fine with gear changes but even after a year of driving I hate hill starts and stops and get a very cramped leg from the clutch as I have fibromyalgia - still getting pressured to stick to manual but after watching this video I'm wondering why on earth I wouldn't go auto, it makes so much more sense for me. How has it been for you switching to auto?

      Skepticism towards automatics often tends to be down to the costs. Its because they can often be more expensive to buy, and a lot more expensive to fix if anything goes badly wrong with the gearbox. I haven’t learned to drive yet myself, but if/when I do all my family would rather me drive manually, where as I keep thinking I’ll be better off doing automatic.
