    One of the biggest things that bothers me about AH’s team is that they always act like they’re having these huge “gotcha” moments..... and they’re just not. It’s embarrassing to watch.

    • @NothingKingKN
      @NothingKingKN 2 года назад +49

      A lot of that effect is also mitigated by how JD and his legal team has been cleverly been acting throughout the whole trial.
      JD, during testimony, actually brings out some pretty fucked up things and gives context to them through the testimony, which then mitigates the impact of the reveal by the AH lawyers.
      Eg. When Depp talked about being cut by the bottle and him starting to scribble messages and words with his own blood on the walls. It seemed as it was just a random "WTF" moment from his side, but when then AH legal team brought it up later, it had absolutely no impact because of the earlier reveal.

    As women we don’t own the trauma of domestic abuse, it is a human experience that many are victims to regardless of identity. Women are highly more prone to abusive relationships and not receiving justice but I argue our justice system doesn’t support victims in general. I hope women who are gatekeeping men to similar experiences realize fighting for their justice is also fighting for their own.

    • @TheLily97232
      @TheLily97232 2 года назад +3

      I agree with you. Justice fucks over any and every victim in such circumstances, and that's just facts. It is a penultimate problem for women in our patriarchal society but men still get abused either by other men or by women.

    • @Crozzzbonez0
      @Crozzzbonez0 2 года назад

      I don't agree that women are more prone to abusive relationships as there's really no research to back that up and there are many men like Johnny Depp that are too afraid to come forward because of public backlash so the stats would be wrong anyway. other male witnesses even confessed that they were victims, hell even Hasan himself said he had bad experiences. it's way more common than I think people like you realize. I think you need to consider that currently women definitely have a better environment to share their bad experiences than men. some men will be crucified if a girl accuses him of something without proof. generally, abuse accusations are handled as "guilty until proven innocent" when it comes to the court of public opinion, Johnny experienced it as well as many others. All it took was one lie from Amber Heard to destroy his life, yet it took him 6 years to dig up evidence and prove his innocence. even after all of this, people still believe Amber Heard, or at least that "they're both bad" despite evidence suggesting otherwise because of subconscious sexism, at that point, it's "guilty until proven guilty". no wonder so many guys, some you may even know, won't say anything when you have people who will villainize them regardless. this mainly female victim favored environment is partially due to the capitalization of #metoo and other movements, and partially to ignorant/dismissive statements like yours: "Women are highly more prone...". I don't believe you did it maliciously, however unfounded statements like that are dangerous and are exactly why some people think it's ok to ignore these issues, or why some men feel their experience is unimportant. ultimately, I believe issues should be addressed/ tackled not based on "who has it worse". I do agree with the rest of what you said though.

    • @hannahcheck
      @hannahcheck 2 года назад +3

      @@Crozzzbonez0 I hear what you’re saying. What I’ve used as a measure of abuse that’s the most concrete we can get is deaths. Stats show 72% of murder-suicides involved intimate partners and from that 94% were women victims. This is only one aspect of abuse but death is the ultimate form. When I’m saying women are more prone I mean historically and politically speaking women are more likely to face abuse like the death statistic. A consequence of the power inequality in our institutions. To understand Institutions, policies/laws are the best measure of power. We see this with no paid parental leave, Roe getting overturned, you know. If you look up crazy laws you see shit like in Michigan where it’s illegal for a woman to cut her hair without her husbands permission. Obviously it’s not enacted but its a statement on the power differential from times closer than we realize. And these policies that hurt women hurt men too. What you’re speaking about is cultural power. It’s taken a mad shift the past couple years towards favoring women and notedly in this case abusive women use it to their horrible advantage to destroy and build power. Both men and women are equally capable of abusing but institutions via policy in fed govt, state, local, etc have encouraged and allowed men to abuse women at a higher rate for all American history. It can’t be said the other way around unless we discuss on the grounds of cultural power since the #metoo. So it leaves the question… does the hundreds of years of institutional power encouraging statistically more abuse of women hold more or less weight of the cultural power women are beginning to hold and using against men? Or is there a better answer that both men and women are suffering and we share a common struggle that we can’t fix without one another? I think it takes us sharing each other’s perspectives and engaging in well intentioned discussion like this to understand more. I really appreciate your message it’s given me a lot to think about and I can see from your lens why it sounded dismissive

      @@hannahcheck i agree with pretty much everything you said here, so maybe it was just a communication error on my part. To clarify, I was talking more in terms of abuse in general currently. Women absolutely are more prone to severe physical abuse than men by their spouse or SO, that’s undeniable. Men have also held most of the power in history and only recently has the playing field levelled, that’s also true. I don’t think you’re one of them, but I’ve heard a lot of Terfs and fake Feminists use that as an excuse to ignore the other side, so sorry if i came off as aggressive. Johnny Depp was slamming the cabinets and pouring himself a lot of wine because his mother had died. The video she took was not too long after she died and Amber took advantage of that. That's why he got peeved when he saw she was filming her If you listen closely too you can even hear her laughing at points about it even though she was feigning fear. In numerous instances of the videos Amber took, most, if not all of the videos were of Johnny Depp in a vulnerable state. She literally, instead of just caring for him and properly taking care of him, literally recorded his depressive episode where he was going to cut himself and tried to make it seem like he was going to hurt her, even though in the audio he says numerous times, that he was going to "himself" and had nothing left to give her.

    There definitely is misandry in courts, at least in family courts. Mothers almost always get custody despite their ability to parent.
    A coworker of mine's husband only got custody of his child after YEARS despite the mother being a drug addict, an alcoholic, and being openly neglectful. And he ONLY got custody after that time because he's now remarried.
    Oh, and she also still has custody of her other 2 kids.

      I guess this is cause of some social bias, women being perceived more nourishing and such than men, but also maybe it's the overcompensation, since not so long ago only fathers got the custody of the children after divorce/separation, and in some muslim countries courts, or in any radically religious countries, it is still the case - the reason being that fathers were/are the sole providers, but also were/are considered more important for upbringing than mothers (cause of disparity of economic power along with luck of legal security for women).

    Big difference though: my friend ain't rich. His lawyers are doing basically no discovery or prep since he can't pay them much, so he's basically on his own. If he wants the lawyer to actually what you expect them to do, it would cost about 25 grand.

    What she expected was for Johnny to keep his head down and concede to her. that way she could go on with the notoriety of being spokesperson for women's right and DV and he would be like many men in the industry, who just lay low and wait for it to blow over. Either because it happened or because they have no proof it didnt.

    Watching this has been scary because I have BPD and I can’t imagine hurting anyone physically, let alone my partner. Especially on purpose and with intent. I really hope that this case doesn’t add more fuel to the fire when it comes to the stigma around BPD. I already have a hard time telling others because I know they’ll automatically count me out as a friend. The stigma alone attacks one of the biggest triggers which is abandonment and loneliness. We feel alone most of the time and empty, so when we meet people we want them to love us so that we have that friendship. Then when we start struggling with monotony in relationships we begin to question everything and our value. We constantly interrogate others to know if we’re doing things right which then comes off as needy. It’s tough maintaining any relationship. Sorry for the rant guys.

    The whole "if this was not televised, she would win," is a... bad point (sorry). This is a defamation civil case, not criminal. If Johnny was arrested for DV against Amber, he would probably not be convicted, as there is no tangible proof, whereas with Johnny, Amber admits to hitting him, he has legit physical injuries that could probably be confirmed (i.e. was his finger cleanly cut off like with a knife or taken off with a bottle), etc.
    For example, most victims of SA, myself included, do not get to go to court and see the person found guilty. Out of 1,000 SAs, 975 perps will walk free. This is a case of defamation, NOT DV. Whatever ruling does not mean that Johnny and Amber were/were not abusive to each other. Their DV victim status is still in the court of public opinion

      Good points. Glad you’re safe. Question..Does that 97.5% include plea deals? From my understanding most assault charges lead to pleas and if it’s a first offense and not aggravated, jail isn’t typical. I left an abusive relationship in which I was charged with DV assault for grabbing my ex’s wrist when she pointed a knife at me. I never hit, choked, kicked, threw things at her but she did to me constantly. I made the mistake of being silent to the police to not incriminate her while she said I grabbed her...i decided to just take the plea to avoid going through the headache of seeing her in trial. It was a nightmare. I’m thankfully safe and have grown a lot from probation and my classes though.

    • @purplelamp273

      @@justinwood9049 I'm so sorry, I was specifically talking about SA in mine (I'll edit it to make it clear...), as I was SA'd, not in a DV situation. I used it as an example, as I feel like the conviction rates would be somewhat similar (probably DV being more successful since police bring in the party that looks "less hurt" a lot of the times, or the man, even if they are not the abuser) and to illustrate that the "women claiming allegations and getting convictions constantly" is flawed logic. I know that the stat I was talking about does take into account plea deals as the 97.5% (it's from RAINN), but it does not take up that much of the 97.5% (only 50/1000 cases leads to an arrest). I'm so glad you are safe and healthy. I hope this trial will bring to light male victims of DV.

  • @pranafox_
    @pranafox_ 2 года назад +1

    The only people actually portraying people with BPD as beyond help are the people who justify abuse from people with BPD as "just a product of having BPD." The same exact people who pretend it's not their fault. It's a line of thought that follows the same exact logic as, "Men can't help it, women should just wear less revealing clothes."
    The problem we talk about regarding people with BPD isn't that they have BPD, it's that a lot of them refuse to take responsibility for actions and behaviors that happen as a result of it and find healthier and more productive ways of coping with their symptoms. BPD or not, Amber Heard is an abuser, so full of herself and self-assured that she refused to take the advice given to her or accept/admit that she has done anything wrong.
    People with BPD are not beyond help, but quite a few of them do pretend to be, and portraying it as if they can't help it is genuinely much more ableist because it leads to dismissing and shunning of people who have it, simply on the basis of them having it and nobody around them wanting to get hurt because they're "beyond help," "just like that," etc.

    Out my “Hasan, educate these idiots so I don’t have to folder” and get your help. I have a lot of educating I need to do myself but I am someone who knows this, I don’t pretend to know everything. And I can be swayed with an actual coherent and educational conversation that helps me see if I maybe am being more biased or whatever.
