    If mtl needs to fill the ltir gap for price with laine, it could make sense to pick his contract up for two seasons. Take a chance like Monahan and flip it if he works out. If it doesn’t, he runs out around the same time as prices contract and then habs are left with massive cap space to get a top scorer and #1 goalie.

    • @DiasBenes
      @DiasBenes Месяц назад

      They could only do that after the season starts when teams can put player contracts on LTIR. This doesn't happen right away. Teams have to carry their LTIR contracts to fit under the cap before the season starts then move players onto LTIR.
      LTIR is not a free way to stash contracts.

    • @f9w99
      @f9w99 Месяц назад

      @@DiasBenes they still have to fill up to the cap limit to engage ltir and ya you’re right about the terms and timing.
      Could they use it to take laine contract or someone else on before the trade deadline? I don’t see Columbus doing that great this season so it might be the end point for him there.

    Wow this week once again were are down to approximately three teams that are maybe absolutely interested in Laine How many updates do we need on a trade on Patrick! I can't wait for training camp so there is something to talk about.
    I still don't think we need to go this route,

    Thanks to Guerin, Wild have too many guys with a NTC/NMC to make it work. Spurgeon and a prospect for Laine makes the most sense because Spurgeon's and Laine's contracts would basically cancel out with each other. Only problem is that Spurgeon has a 10-team no-trade list. I'm willing to bet Columbus is one of those 10 teams. They could do any combination of Freddy Gaudreau, MoJo, Zucc, and a prospect, but all of them have a NTC/M-NTC. Each would most likely reject a trade to Columbus as well unless they liked playing for Dean.

    • @jrose9774
      @jrose9774 Месяц назад

      You beat me to it. I think the only guy who makes this work is spurgeon. My guess is Columbus isn’t on his list or he took it off when Dean evason took over is why BG is pursuing this. I don’t think the Wild would have to attach a pick cause I would imagine spurgeon would blow any other teams offer out of the water and evason knows what spurgeon can bring to a team.

    I know many sabres fans look at this the the "Oooo, big name splash"... personally, easy pass. He's a good goal scorer.. but victor Olofsson was too and we celebrate his leaving. Yeah, he's not quite as good a Laine... but similar mold. I'm not sure he's a fit in Buffalo... that's before we get into hes mental space on being the type of person that Adams likes to add. big on Character guys. Does Patrik fit that? I don't know as I don't know him personally, but I have a feeling that it's probably not.

    • @ABobeck94
      @ABobeck94 Месяц назад +1

      About Olofsson, yes he was a goal scorer for this team. But some/most of the time he scored, it would be when the team is down 4-0 in the 3rd period. Even this past season, he was either a healthy scratch or just there in the lineup.
      Laine on the other hand is a Top 6 forward they need based on what’s currently available in terms of trade/FA, and they have not found the replacement for Jeff Skinner. Right now as constructed, I have a hard time seeing this team making playoffs.
