Did u do a Toyota RAV4 hybrid review? I tried looking at all the videos you posted but didn't see one. I would like to compare your review for the RAV4 hybrid with your review for the Honda CR-V hybrid.
Just a note on power: Because Honda Hybrids are series hybrids below about 55 MPH, only the power output by the electric motor counts below freeway speeds. So ignore that 212 system horsepower number on your 0-60 runs, the electric motor puts out 181 Horsepower and that's all that's available to turn the wheels below about 55 MPH. After about 55 MPH a clutch connects the engine to the wheels via a single-gear "transmission" which is a fixed gear ratio roughly equivalent to a manual transmission's sixth gear. This turns the drivetrain into a parallel hybrid, where the gas and electric motors work with each other to maintain the vehicle at speed or produce passing power. Only then is peak power possible (and the way the gear ratios work out you can't even produce that much power below 100 MPH). The reason it feels a little more sprightly off the line than the gas motor is because the electric motor doesn't need to ramp up to produce power; All the power is available instantly, rather than the lag a gasoline engine produces while waiting for the engine to rev up.
@@skipthepump7714 That electric engine provides instant full torque. At 30 MPH, that's probably all you would need. Once you hit 45MPH, the clutch engages the engine. Alex on Autos has a great explanation of the Honda hybrid system here: ruclips.net/video/-P_VChtMGK8/видео.html
Yeah an electric engine has a flat straight torque curve and a straight power curve, Iv seen a number of crappy reviews, but at least you guys know your stuff ;)
I test drove a EX Hybrid this weekend. Very nice and seamless system but not a strong performer. However on the road under normal conditions the CRV-H was stable, quiet and responsive as the gasoline version. The air conditioning is driven from an electric motor oddly enough and gives chilled air when the engine's off. The gauge cluster takes some getting used to but the push button shifter is more or less intuitive. The dynamic braking is controlled by paddles on the wheel, and does work much like a Jake Brake and is effective. What drove me away was not the quality of the car, but the Honda retailer who added $1000 to the MSRP and started to negotiate from there! He said it was "market pricing". So if I negotiate, I'd end up somewhere north of the MSRP. I told them to keep their Hybrid, and their "market pricing" and I can wait for the MSRP pricing.
Mitshu Marner I did the same as you. I drove a CRV-H Tourijg and was quoted $36,750 as a final sales price. Only $500 of the original price. I passed and will wait until the last month this generation Is available, of course on the last day of the month.
I've been looking- researching small hybrids since the Rav 4 came out last year. In the last two weeks I drove and got out the door prices on the the Rav4 , Ford Escape , and this week the CR-V , going in thinking the CR-V would be the one I bought. The Escape was last on my list and yes the CR-V interior is the the nicest of the 3, followed by the Rav. but I bought the Escape. My reason was simple, after seeing and driving the Escape, Rav, and CRV I just liked the the overall feel, power, look, and lastly I got the Escape with everything I wanted for $2G less than Honda and almost $4G less than the Toyota. As of today 3/7 I've read no list of problem with the Escape unlike the Rav ( filling the gas tank, faulty engine block, electric only pow er for the rear wheels) and other things as well.As for the CR-V the infotainment ,audio system did not impress me and its a led sled....when you floor it all you hear is a lot of noise and little movement. This is my first Ford and both fingers are crossed, but so far I'm loving it.
@hikersid I test drove all 3 that you mentioned and agree except that the Escape (both hybrid and non) has the controls so backward and counter-intuitive that I literally had to pull over during the test drive and the salesman and I had to figure out where Ford decided to put everything; headlights, LKAS, windshield wiper switch, and on and on. It did have plenty of leg and headroom but it would take 3 months to get used to where everything is. The leather seats were slippery and cheap looking, but that's a minor thing IMO. But anyway, congrats on the new ride and I hope it serves you well.

0:47 For the love of god that old infotainment is so awful - they need to update it with the new one in the Accord and Odyssey. I had that last-gen one in a 2018 Fit and besides the sluggishness and usability issues, it was surprisingly buggy. Using GPS routing would cause the entire infotainment to crash about once an hour - and I don't just mean mapping, I mean the entire head unit would reboot (showing the logo and everything) and take about 40 seconds to come back up.
Yes. It is a mechanical AWD. Same system as conventional 1.5T. I'm surpriced there is no 2WD hybrid. Not everyone needs AWD and for these people, there are plenty of downsides.
I love the push button shifter. They are all just electric switches anyway, you don't need a fragile plastic joystick jutting out waiting to be broken, for no reason.
New 2.0L engine? Hopefully no oil dilution problems for those of us in the MidWest and colder climates. It truly looks like a very compelling vehicle and not too overpriced if all things considered.
@ihategooglespooks Thank so much for this info! I will definitely consider the Hybrid in the future! 1.5 turbo and GDI were the ones I was trying to shy away from. I'm just too used to my 14-year old 2nd gen CRV with a NA 2.4L and an auto transmission that has been bulletproof!
I hate those push button transmissions. We once got a Pilot in on trade at the Toyota dealer I work at and I had to do the inspection on it. The battery was flat and I couldn’t figure out how to put it in neutral to push into the shop, so I changed the battery at -30F. BMWs have a switch under the dashboard to put their electronic selector to neutral in case the battery is dead but this one somehow doesn’t.
Obviously Honda because I love Honda vehicles the most!!!!! #HondaForLife I prefer Honda vehicles over other luxury and non-luxury vehicles, as well as Acura. So yeah only Honda NO ACURA #TeamHonda and #HondaForLife
Love my 2013 Crv but not a fan of this version. Why can't they just make a non turbo with no cvt transmission ? Otherwise its perfect. Glad i don't need another vehicle anytime soon. Im sure Honda will improve this suv.
Well this is the one for you then - it has NO CVT. In fact it has no transmission at all. The engine powers the generator and puts “fuel” in the battery and the electric motor powers this. It does have a clutch that can engage at highway speed so the engine can technically drive the wheels but only at a certain speed range - again since it does not have a transmission.
I cannot find a tow rating for the CR-V Hybrid on Honda's site. In fact, their site says "Tow Capacity: N/A". I didn't think it would be capable of towing much weight, but it seems that it is not rated to tow even a lightweight load. That's too bad. The RAV4 Hybrid is rated to tow 1750 lbs.
@EpiDemic117 Thanks for this info. This makes all the difference for me, as I'll be going from a Tacoma to this and still need a bit of towing capacity for a small utility trailer.
@@dansorescu5720 ah yes, I meant Accord similarly doesn't have a spare tire, I should have put a full stop then. In contrast, the Accord does have the space for a spare.

Haven't tested a Escape Hybrid yet, will do so in the future. However the non-hybrid Escape was not anywhere close to the non-hybrid CRV in terms of quality, driving impressions nor utility.
I have a 2020 rav4 hybrid and while its not perfect at least it has a real shifter better infotainment system and better gauge cluster than the crv and the rav4 has a spare tire/the rav4 has a smooth ride as well dare i say Lexus like
Wait a minute, I read everywhere that the storage space in the trunk is the same as the non-hybrid but you’re saying that it’s actually losing 20% of space compared to the gas. Is that true when you were test driving it? I thought the whole selling point of the storage base was that it was exactly the same.
In the normal crv, the bottom cover in the trunk can be lowered to give more cargo room. You cant do that with the hybrid so I'm assuming that's where the loss comes from. The figures are directly from Hondas website. Overall the space is still plenty big.
Please note that the 2-motor system of the CRV, cannot actually achieve 200+ HP at any practical driving speed. Alex on Auto's video (ruclips.net/video/-P_VChtMGK8/видео.html) estimates that 212 HP can only be achieved at about 110 MPH. For the acceleration to 60 MPH demonstrated in this video, the maximum horsepower would have been limited to the 181 HP output of the electric drive motor. Please take note of the engine sound; It stays at the same speed, about 6200 RPM, or maximum engine power of 143 HP, for the entire acceleration time. the extra 40-or-so HP comes from the battery, for a total of 181. The good news is that this system can use the full power of the engine over the range you demonstrated (maybe 20 MPH and up). In contrast, the RAV-4's Hybrid Synergy Drive cannot use the full engine output below 40 MPH or so (my estimate).
I own a Tacoma that was made in Texas. It's six years old and has had exactly zero problems. It runs like the day I picked it up at the dealership. The quality of a car lies in its engineering, the quality of components and the manufacturing system employed at the factory. Americans can and do build great cars.
The Toyota has a problem with the gas tank... Toyota isn’t saying anything !!!! Why Toyota ???? I’m definitely not buying a Toyota anymore just not the same as years ago. I’m going with the CRV-Hybrid
The lack of anything groundbreaking is typical Honda, they are really getting left behind. Without more R&D Honda will continue to decline in its world rankings
Pushbutton is the future. Get used to it. Why? Because everything is going electric to the wheels. Something you should have noted in here is that the electric motor is really two motors and is almost all you will ever have connected to the wheels as the ICE will only connect at high speed driving. There is no transmission in the sense that anyone thinks of in the Honda hybrid system. Not even a CVT. The high revs of the ICE are purely to run the generator motor side of the dual motor system.
The research I am doing is saying the 2019 and the 2020 is having a problem with the gas getting mixed in the oil filter. If that is true. That's not good! And what they saying is that it will not effect the vehicle tell around 5 years. For the reason!I am out.
Press gas pedal. Engine makes a loud noise with everyone's fan favorite loud droning CVT. And it doesn't actually do all that much to get you moving. Yeah, gonna hard pass on this car. The extra MPG isn't worth it if the car forces you to drive like Grandma to achieve such numbers.
@@JamesSmith-dn8lb could have fooled me with how it sounded when pushed hard. That 200 whatever horsepower feels more like 100. Great if you want an SUV version of a Prius. But if you're looking for a fun hybrid, go shop elsewhere.
Hmmm...very interesting how quickly Honda dumped the 1.5L motor....maybe cuz it was absolute oil dilluted JUNK. Still Honda won't recall them. Will never buy another Honda again. Shame on you Honda. You lost my loyalty.
@TheGoat i understand all manufacturers have recalls, defects and/or design flaws. It's those manufacturers who STAND behind their products and OWN their mistakes instead of lieing to their customers that earn that respect and loyalty from me. Silly, not to me. Be able to trust where your money goes is just common sense. To deem reliabilty and trust as silly in todays society is EXACTLY what is wrong with this world. Simply to say that is how things are today is completely unacceptable and unlike some I expect to get value for my hard earned dollar rather than look the other way. Honda should be doing the right thing and taking these cars back not stringing their customers along with a lame ass extended warranty. How Honda has handled this issue is completely unprofessional and has shown me how they truly do business.

I prefer buttons over stick. Except for the 5 speed manual hybrids.
How would you compare this to the escape hybrid?
Haven't tested a Escape Hybrid yet, will do so in the future. However the non-hybrid Escape was not anywhere close to the non-hybrid CRV in terms of quality, driving impressions nor utility.
Omg I hate those buttons. Not gonna get hybrid. I like shifters.
Isn't the torque higher on the CRV? I wasn't sure but I thought it was.
Is it ok vs crv 1.5 turbo, ad?
I have a 2020 rav4 hybrid and while its not perfect at least it has a real shifter better infotainment system and better gauge cluster than the crv and the rav4 has a spare tire/the rav4 has a smooth ride as well dare i say Lexus like
Going to review one soon and see how it compares.
Drivers Only ah gotcha. Thanks for the info! Great thorough review!
We won’t be needing spare tires anymore All tires will be airless soon
I can’t wait in CANADA, but I got Black Edition instead
Good choice :).
Drivers Only thanks
How much srp??
I love my CR V
Great information thank you dude... cool
In contrast, the RAV-4's Hybrid Synergy Drive cannot use the full engine output below 40 MPH or so (my estimate).
i think i will always prefer an actual shifter. aint nobody got time to keep looking down to know which gear youre in! lol
Reverse is easy to find with the push button because of the different shape. Really only need drive and reverse.
hybrid in 2020 : No , waste of money , too much cabin noise
If its not made in Japan Im not buying!
I own a Tacoma that was made in Texas. It's six years old and has had exactly zero problems. It runs like the day I picked it up at the dealership. The quality of a car lies in its engineering, the quality of components and the manufacturing system employed at the factory. Americans can and do build great cars.
I love Japanese products, like my bulletproof 2001 4Runner, but Japan is (was) also the home of the infamous, shrapnel-flinging Takata airbags.
hm... got a toyota rav 4 hybrid ad when watching this vid...COMPETITION!!!!!!
The Toyota has a problem with the gas tank... Toyota isn’t saying anything !!!! Why Toyota ???? I’m definitely not buying a Toyota anymore just not the same as years ago. I’m going with the CRV-Hybrid
How about towing capacity? Fuddruckers, FTW!!!
CR-Vs are not quiet...
RAV 4 Prime 300HP + spare tire.
Someone claims the dealership gonna mark that baby up when it comes out
That's only meaningful if you have access to home charging. Otherwise, it should be a hybrid-to-hybrid comparison - not plug-in hybrid.
The lack of anything groundbreaking is typical Honda, they are really getting left behind. Without more R&D Honda will continue to decline in its world rankings
Can anyone tell me the 0 to 60 time ?
Eventually
Pushbutton is the future. Get used to it. Why? Because everything is going electric to the wheels.
Something you should have noted in here is that the electric motor is really two motors and is almost all you will ever have connected to the wheels as the ICE will only connect at high speed driving. There is no transmission in the sense that anyone thinks of in the Honda hybrid system. Not even a CVT. The high revs of the ICE are purely to run the generator motor side of the dual motor system.
saitama? is that you?
Too little too late with RAV4 Hybrid or Ford Escape Hybrid being more efficient.
Honda is not that much less efficient.
It comes with a mechanical AWD and has wider tires.
Crv no1 CUV
The research I am doing is saying the 2019 and the 2020 is having a problem with the gas getting mixed in the oil filter. If that is true. That's not good! And what they saying is that it will not effect the vehicle tell around 5 years. For the reason!I am out.
Keith Marsh it only effects the turbo Honda engines not this hybrid
Keith Marsh this engine is currently in the accord hybrid and they do not suffer from engine oil mixed with gas
Video NOT sync’d with audio
Is it a 2 stroke like the new gas one, where to save money you can just put oil directly into the fuel tank.. 😂
It doesn't have a CVT though..
@@JamesSmith-dn8lb could have fooled me with how it sounded when pushed hard. That 200 whatever horsepower feels more like 100. Great if you want an SUV version of a Prius. But if you're looking for a fun hybrid, go shop elsewhere.
@@milestraysandor5901 switch to sport mode if you want to floor it....
Disappointed by the responsiveness in eco mode. But in sport mode it seems OK.
Wow
Problem with Honda are transmission's CVT, they are weak!
This doesn't have a CVT.
Hmmm...very interesting how quickly Honda dumped the 1.5L motor....maybe cuz it was absolute oil dilluted JUNK. Still Honda won't recall them. Will never buy another Honda again. Shame on you Honda. You lost my loyalty.
Honda hasn't "dumped the 1.5L motor." It is now the standard engine in all CR-V trims but the Hybrid model.
@@jonpenguin303 I agree with you. Trust and respect must be earned, not blindly given like Isheep.
