Ah yes, Death Wind I on Master with the Golden Fox. The only race I know of where the only way to win is to be "that guy" from the highway who not only refuses to move over when you want to pass, but when you change lanes he changes lanes to block you.
This is really impressive, couldn't even imagine the Golden Fox can beat Knight League despite of Death Wind. I play this game only at summer and never played it on a real SNES hardware (well, my brother had it back in the mid 90s but I cut off the joystick plug because it reminded me the... Golden Fox! Ahahahhaah), only on an emulator, and I go for the only way I can win this league on Master: with the Wild Goose. I'm weak at F-Zero, so I've never managed to handle the Blue Falcon (not to mention the Golden Fox, way more lightweight) on Death Wind at Expert difficulty, otherwise it would be the perfect car for Big Blue, Sand Storm and Silence (and Fire Field) because of its acceleration. So I learned the only way was to win Knight League at Expert and Master with the Wild Goose. But this video leads me to me look at F-Zero in a different way. I used Golden Fox to win Queen League only 2 years ago (otherwise I've always driven Blue Falcon since 2013) and I won at first attempt. I will try to feel comfortable with the Golden Fox on the Knight League then. About some comments that talk about luck at Death Wind. Well I think that those collisions between useless cars and your opponents are wanted, because if your opponents were some metres ahead they would have overtaken the useless cars anyway. When you are close to your opponent, instead, they would almost 100% collide with those cars since they share the same path. There are some forums where modders that opened the tracks on an editor have argued about this for years. Note 2: What do you mean in a comment of yours with "Golden Fox's turbo lasts shorter than other cars"? I guess you meant the extra speed given by inertial yellow/pink arrows on the track, not the "S" turbo itself. I find, on the other hand, that the Fire Stingray is freaking OP for Death Wind, because its inertial thrust lasts almost forever, while the other cars are pretty balanced so their inertia is basically the same. In fact you got a 2'06 here with Golden Fox. I've achieved a 1'54 in practice and 1'55 in grand prix with the Fire Stingray some years ago. Also, the Fire Stingray doesn't suffer wind, it's like a war tank, while Blue Falcon and Golden Fox are almost impossible to handle. Wild Goose handles a bit better Death Wind but it's not certainly as strong as Fire Stingray is. Great run and great video though!
Damn, that is a nice job! I can't imagine how many times you must have tried to do this, to pass Death wind. It is very hard. Very nice technique of pumping the gas pedal after you get hit, looks like the best way to control the car. You got lucky a couple of times too, the other cars got blocked by those sunday drivers right after passing you. I guess you must have some luck to beat that level with golden fox. Best natural run i've seen of golden fox on youtube. Congratulations. I see in the description you say you "forgot what strategy i used" ... does that mean you used savestates? I don't know if i blame you, it is extremely hard that Death wind track. good job even still.
I used an emulator to help me remember what strategy I used to beat Death Wind with the Golden Fox. Trying to do that in a console would have been tedious. I would have to beat Mute City, Big Blue and Sand Ocean over and over just to figure out what I did in Death Wind when I get there. Like I said in the description I already came in first place in Death Wind on a console with the Golden Fox.
@14:54 THAT message appears if you get all first places in all of the races? Master mode is a dick because of the rubberbanding AI mostly keep catching up with you especially that green car and the pink car since they have good top speed but their acceleration is crap. Don't wanna bump into cars or walls when using them. I know that the pink car has the best handling in the game, but I don't know if the green car has the second best handling... I managed to get first place in all of the cups in Beginner mode. I know I gotten first place in Knight and Queen League courses in Standard mode. I *think* I also gotten first in all of the King League courses.
Oops I made a mistake. You see, I was confused that Master mode was Expert mode. Expert Mode is the level I had a hard time with. Guess I have to play this game again on my Wii Virtual Console. Btw, can you handle the Special Cup on 150cc in Super Mario Kart for the SNES?
Don't get me wrong. Maybe you found a strategy that allowed you to have full control of what is happening. Maybe there is a way to do it that I just didn't think about while you found that way.. If so, that is really incredible. But it would have been nice to see that 1st place on the SNES.
The negative comments here regarding luck must be from folks who don't have vivid memories of trying something over and over for hours until it all lines up just right. I was never able to pull a win with the golden fox - just worried about top speed and got good at not hitting things. This video is a hell of an achievement. Using save states between levels seems totally acceptable in this case. Would have made this unbearable for the OP otherwise.
What do you mean careful with this guy? At Kindred192: They should have made the Golden Fox's turbo speed last longer. I don't know why they made the slowest car have the shortest turbo. The Fire Stingray has the highest top speed and the longest turbo, making it the best car in the game.
@@LuisParson I suspect it was intended to be a hard mode car. Or maybe they thought the slow acceleration and poor turning on the heavier vehicles was enough of a disadvantage? I'll give credit to games these days - they're typically much more thoroughly tested and balanced than games of the NES/SNES era
You're free to hold a grudge if that's what you wanna do. It doesn't matter to me either way. You do you. I heard doing that is not healthy. At Kingdred192 It was probably made to be a hard car. Although I find it hard to believe that they couldn't see the problem with the Golden Fox. It feels like none of the developers tested the Golden Fox on Death Wind 1 long enough to realize it's almost impossible win. Death Wind 2 is easier because it has more turns and the player is better than the AI when it comes to turns.
"I managed to come in first place with the Golden Fox with the Super Nintendo in 2009" And you didn't film it? That's sad, and honestly hard to believe, too. In order to get 1st place you have to be able to "control" the race. Maybe you can block Blue Falcon the first time properly. But sometimes there will be two cars next to eachother, so you can see the "check" of only one of them. Sometimes you may get lucky and still hit them, but how can you have that much luck for 5 laps?
11:21 Wtf? Dude, I have a printscreen (January/15/2019 BSnes Emulator) from my last time playing as Golden Fox on Master Difficult in Death Wind 1, my time was: 0'26'58 Rank 3 0'25'38 Rank 2 0'24'59 Rank 3 0'24'78 Rank 3 0'24'85 Rank 3 TOTAL 2'06'18 Rank 3 Now I compare my time with yours, your time is just 0'00'03 faster than mine, but you managed to won the race and did all laps at 1st. I have memories from my gold days playing this as a kid on my Super NES, in that time I remember that I did won everything unless Fire Stingray in Master difficult on Fire Field, nowadays I beat King League on Master as Stingray but I can't figure out how I have done to beat Knight League on Master Difficult as Golden Fox, I should have been a really good player at those childhood days. I have quited, I though this would be impossible without cheating, but you proved to me that I was wrong, and mostly importantly, you proved to me that I really have beaten this, and my memories wasn't just pure imagination, if this is really possible for a human player, so, I must back and replay this again and again, I have to practice to either improve my time and my reflexes to bump my Golden Fox always to forward, and win Death Win as Golden Fox at 1st place once more, as I have done before, almost two decades ago. I hope be good enough to record a better time than yours and upload here on RUclips. :P Thanks for sharing your victory! I'm going to be the next! (Just need some extra free time, because I have a job, and you know, a job is too time consuming, damnit!)

Hell yes! This is a very difficult racer to use and you dominated it. Great show!

1st place with Golden Fox in Death Wind on Master Difficulty? It is difficult even saving but on a console? Amazing 👏
Close call at the end of the fourth lap on Silence

Having played this for waaaaaaay too many hours as a kid, I can confirm the master mode ending. Was a really nice reward for all the time put in 😁
