It adds a unique lever action shotgun to the game that uses 12 gauge ammo and does comparable damage to the Hunting Shotgun once you have the Cowboy perk, so it's not too OP but far more viable at late-game than the vanilla lever action SG. It's also located at Camp Searchlight Police Station, so it takes a fair amount of effort to acquire it.
Best playstyle. Taking on the Legion base with nothing but your revolver of choice (mine was Lucky), the Medicine Stick, and a crapton of dynamite is so much fun.

I’m normally someone who likes to roleplay a modern/21st century soldier archetype who also embodies Punisher vibes. But there’s just something special about roleplaying a cowboy/sheriff while rocking a long coat duster and a ten-gallon hat while wielding a Big Iron.
I like taking Chance’s Knife with a cowboy build, since its damage is effected by the cowboy perk AND the Grunt perk. Plus u can do a hybrid Cowboy Grunt build, parring the Ranger Sequoia, Chance’s Knife and the Survivalist Rifle.
My preferred cowboy set up is with two mods, Buffed Lucky and Fanning Revolver animation. It boosts the firing speed of hip fired revolvers, and when using buffed Lucky, you can take out a small gang in but a few seconds

1. Thematically NCR ranger armor doesn't quite work - that's more armor associated with an Anti-Material sniper type than a "cowboy". If you wear it, you should use more than antiquated rifles and revolvers. 2. The build is a bit limited - lever action shotgun and explosives would add a lot of versatility. There's some perks and traits that help with carrying more weapons. 3. Fast shot is just too good to pass up - way more interesting and offensive than four eyes. 4. Cowboy has weak explosives perk - just dynamite. You'd have to spec into explosives perks to really make use of it. 5. I actually prefer the Trail Carbine simply because it has a scope. Medicine stick is way better though. 6. I go female simply for Lady Killer - an across the board 5% damage boost against human males is too good to pass up. That, hand loaded ammo, and Fast shot closes the gap.
I don't play the game to get the most op character possible, I play it to have a little fun in my free time. This was mainly a role playing build and New Vegas is pretty easy so an "under powered weapon" can still destroy most enemies with little effort.
I'm doing a pseudo-Old West build. Nothing but Revolvers & Lever Actions. Specifically: Lucky with 357 Magnum, JFP. Lever Action Shotgun with 20 Gauge, Magnum. Medicine Stick with .45-70 Gov't, SWC. As for Armor, I go with Sheriff/Bounty Hunter Duster, then upgrade to the NCR Ranger Armor. Usually go with whatever variant I get first, then upgrade and stick with the Desert Ranger Combat Armor. Reason for that specific set is unlike the other variants, this version retains the, what I believe to be, cowboy boots of the original. Also, per it's lore, it is USMC issued; and I'm a crayon eater IRL. I don't use the helmet. I instead use a mod called A Sack Full Of Hats. Specifically, The Preacher hat. But if I had to go with a vanilla one, it'd probably be Ranger Grey/Brown or Sheriff hat. As for eyewear, I like the Authority Shades
You could probably shift a bit out of Perception and drop Four-Eyes for Skilled and/or Trigger Discipline. FNV is the Skyrim "Stealth Archer meme" but for Cowboy builds, I swear.
I usually grad the advanced riot gear and the helmet, and the riot gear helmet with the grey ranger cowboy hay over top. And just use the ranger sequoia
What about puting 1 charisma and have with the clothes 9 perception, luck and agility, and with the the implants have 10 from those three to have a full gun build?
Because what’s the point of taking down the Legion if you can’t do it as a badass loner wielding enough firepower to use Quarry Junction as one’s personal hunting grounds?

Make that one hit count; get yourself a .357, _minimum._ And, again, a shotgun just as soon as you possibly can, too. The soonest you'll get a .357 is by killing Joe Cobb and taking his. .357 is also what feeds the Cowboy Repeater -- a weapon that takes a little practice, but can be exceptionally useful from early all the way to mid game, after which you should be able to get your hands on either a Brush Gun or a Trail Carbine.
yea i’ll pass on looking up a build. i use the same weapons but whatever SPECIAL and perks felt right for exploring. games not that hard you don’t need to like min/max your half brain damaged courier. also high int and charisma ALWAYS cuz of the writing in this game
Blud games are for having fun. Not to make a perfect and balanced OP build. I did a quiet kid build and it's just shooting people and I have fun with it.
I’d suggest having Raul as a Companion and convince him to wear his old costume and the perk boosts revolvers

Went with the Alchestbreach preset and did the most badass play-through, Fallout New Vegas being a western puts it way up there in my opinion.

The problem with this build is that you need Lucky Shade, and the chad cowboy will never even consider talking to the virgin legionnaries.

in the base game bowie knife/bloodnap aren't effected by cowboy anyway. none of the dlc weapons are.
