Modular robotic arm

- Our reconfigurable modular manipulator (RMM), developed under funding from NASA, uses a Universal Mating Adapter (UMA) for internal power and communications. This allows the building of a 1-DOF to N-DOF manipulator in minutes by combing individual pitch and roll joints. Each joint contains its own power and control electronics, failsafe brake, and absolute and relative optical encoders. All power and data cables pass through the joints internally, avoiding potential snags of external cables. The joints are "hot-swappable" and contain all configuration, calibration, and park information in non-volatile memory. The final joint is equipped with an "auto-detach" device, which allows it to engage or disengage with different end-effectors... or with a payload that is equipped with a UMA plug.
"X15 is now ready for your prostate examination" is when you discover if that fire door really works.
Oh, how I loved watching this. Robots should be like an Erector Set - put things together in the form needed for the task. If these subcomponents could be mass-produced so that they cost $100 for the joint and $50 for the tube segments, there would be customized robots everywhere. Wake me when that happens.
I would like to do it! Wakey, wakey!
Beware, he's a time traveler from the 70's. The hair due is a dead giveaway...
This concept is so cool!
amazing gripper change!
better than lego
tought the joint had to be not in line for get folded
Where can we buy that?
This is magic, I saw Harry Potter !!!
Wolowitz! There you are
Cool video. What connector / slip ring solution did you use to make the mating work?
Beautifull work!
Amazing arm. What type of motors are you guys using?
good for jobs that need multiple tools but looks like it has limited movement based on the video, if that is true I would suggest working on that before going full release.
the movement looks like it focuses on the forward, back, and the turning of the whole arm but nothing else really. that limits the jobs it can work on.
I really need to put this on my sex doll. no joke. it's too heavy.
Bravo!
how much weight can it handle. how much is cost
Impressive. Are these available commercially for research?
Check out griprose.com for robust, instant and presice fix
that really cool robot arm can you tell me how to make one like that and how to program it
Yeah sure man, they have nothing better to do..
Step one become a robotics engineer, step two get NASA funding, step three build the fucking bot.
why is it moving so slow? can't make it lightning fast?
You've seen too many movies. This is reality.
very nice
Perfect
Awesome
awesome
It's amazing what you can do with half a dozen Arduino's. LOL.
Oh, & $Million of development, years of work, sleepless nights, & education at MIT.
Hanzhen harmonic drive gear , over 30 years experience , robot arm gear ,,
2:00 OH MY GOD BAD CODING! IT'S GONE HAYWIRE! EVERYBODY HIT THE GROUND!!! 😃😆😂😈🙃😜
