Arnheid wasn't being punished because Gardar killed everyone who saw what happened. Snake only came back to dead men and no Gardar. The last thing he did was order Arnheid to be taken back to Sverkel's house. He actually just doesn't know for sure how Gardar escaped, even if he might have suspicions. She's literally just the bait cause they think he'll come get her again the same way he did last time, and nothing else.
I always love the Askeladd appears ! We need to remember Thors was a true warrior like Thorfinn trying to become. And we see thors fighting after his escape of the Army 2 times : One time to protect his Wife and his futur against Thorkell. And One other time : Against Askeladd and his crew to protect his son and villagers. Askeladd in all of his appears helping thorfinn to take the good way to become like his father ! Its wolesome !
I’m with you Morgan, I want to know more about Snake, his story and how he ended up being a bodyguard for this farm. One can tell by his dope sword alone, that he seems a little overqualified for this job.
Something a lot of people don't notice about Snake is he is not only reading the Bible, as already shows a bunch of education since he can read, but the Bible at that time was not translated, it was written in Latin, and nor the common Latin speak by the masses, but the Archaic Latin that spoke by the nobles and clerk, and Snake as translating it to the old man.
People zoomed in the bible and it’s in Latin, And in the next episode he confirmed who he worked for, so he’s at least trilingual. Danish + Latin + the third language
So the one thing striking me most about a ton of reactions to this and last episode is lack of understanding of Snakes position. See it is easy for us, in our modern world, after ALL the leg work and thinking of those THOUSANDS of years ago to look at this situation and just root for Gardar and Arnheid. Because of course from a purely logical stand point, the most "correct" position is the one where Gardar and Arnheid isn't enslaved. However that doesn't invalidate Snake nor the lives of his men, especially as he doesn't have this hindsight. He is living in these times and slavery isn't even questioned so why would he question his current position of prioritizing his mens lives over that of Gardar? This isn't a "I stand with Snake" comment, it is simply a comment pointing out the literal obvious in both what is actually objective about these circumstances and times and also where modern viewers miss the plot when discussing and reacting to these kinds of depictions.
@@jakejestes That's true but these three are outright dismissive of Snake and his caring for his dead men and valuing their lives. That is the difference, like myself I am voluntaryist and trust me I certainly am not someone down with slavery so I stand with freeing Gardar and Arnheid (as well as the others) however Snakes position is 100% understandable and honestly despite helping to uphold the institution of slavery I think he is a decent person. I just think you can both stand for what's right and logical but also not be subjectively ignorant of the reality of the other side and dismissive of their position. It isn't even like Snake is coming from the position of defending slavery itself, his sole focus is on the value of his men and their lives and that this was taken from them and it being justified or not isn't even in his head.
Maybe if they didn't try to catch him for horses they wouldn't have brought this on themselves. Dude was most likely gonna ride past the farm anyway...
@@projectomnia1997 "he's living in a time when slavery isn't questioned". Lmaoo the hell? Next time educate yourself in philosophy and history before making embarrassing statements. Just read up on Seneca, Epiricus and other Stoics of his time, Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle etc. Even in ancient times people constantly argued against slavery, it was just the case that the ruling class had that much power to continue to make slavery a thing. Even in the show, people are aware slavery is wrong. So no, he's fully aware that it's wrong.... it'd be odd if he didn't care about his men, but he has no case to stand on. @@NileSwimmer well next time you probably could use your brain before making embarrassing statement. Just because some people think it's wrong doesn't mean all people think so. Most people doesn't think slavery wrong back then. The African enslave other tribes, so was Mongols, European, etc. For example in modern world Hook up culture is wrong. Yep.. this is a nice episode. I love it when the story gives deep meaning when the mc decides to fight. There's actually a depth and reason. It's different from any other show where they just fight coz it's cool and for the fans.
Yeah. It’s cool and all but It’s not really something to be celebrated. Following Thorfinns character and his newfound philosophy it’s obvious this isn’t something he wants to do. I’m glad he will still defend himself and others but it’s bittersweet

Yeah, looking at their perspective tho they mostly watch shounen where the fights are cool and are made for hype moments in the story, so the themes of this show (and it’s aim towards a more mature audience) will take some adjusting.

Old man master really climbed out of the bed to watch peak
Askeladd spirit coming to be Thorfinn hype man is everything.
The thing is that it's not really his spirit, it's literally Thorfinns doubts manifesting as him, he's talking to himself as if Askeladd was there.
yeah it's not Askeladd's spirit but Thorfinn's own consciousness and memories formed together.
Edit: This is not Star Wars with force ghosts lol

Arnheid as a character feels too real for an anime honestly.
Thats the genius of Vinland Saga. Even a side character is done so well. Just peak storytelling.
Yeah
She has an immensely talented voice actor

I love Arnheid's character so much, I hope she gets some semblance of a happy ending. Seeing Thorfinn square up is just great too.
Thorfinn is literally like Thors now, he doesnt need a weapon, al he needs is his fist to defend & not kill

Well Thors said himself he was imperfect, and not a true warrior

Snake’s sword looks like a scimitar, so he’s probably middle eastern…
