Paul Romero send to me an anwer about originate this tune: ... this piece of music is partially constructed using pre-recorded samples of ancient Celtic flute and violin melodies from a sampled pre-recorded library that many composers around the world are using. I am not the original composer of this melody. But many composers buy these sample pre-recorded libraries and pick and choose the different pre-recorded parts and layer them on top of each other. ...
Well, I do not care! This tune, as it may be sampled or not entirely original, instantly transports me onboard a ship across the sea, wondering what will come next! So he did his job quite damn good!
There is a very similar tune in the Sea Dogs 2 / Pirates of the Carribean PC Game. Check Tavern theme, it's basically the same melody but with slightly different tune. Nevertheless, still a masterpiece!
Music and good campaign stories were the best features of Heroes 4. While i really prefered the actual gameplay (and combat) in Heroes 3, I still hold the 4. dear, because it has its own charm.
Yes, the beautifully told campaigns made an impression on me back then, even though they were just plain text windows. But that was, in the best sense, pulp fiction. I think my two favorite stories are "Elvin & Shaera and "Emilia Nighthaven." They were both very sweet.
Sometimes I dream of escaping from my monotonous life. My dream would be to buy a boat and go around the world before stopping on an island in the Pacific Ocean. Even if I would never live the same adventures as Tawni Balfour, this music helps me not forget my dream.
I think with some better graphics and animations and some more polish in general, this might have become an instant classic. So much wasted potential...
part 2: Then we can speed up or slow down the tempo, and then add our own orchestration on top of that. I rarely rarely use these pre-recorded libraries because so many other composers use the same thing and then there will be confusion as to who is the REAL composer of the melody! But I had a very short deadline (only one day) to create some music for this part of the HMM IV sea section and using the prerecorded Celtic library made it very fast for me! ...
Sadly someone plagiarized him and that has been used as a excuse, since this guy is on the onther side of earth Paul himself seems not to care about all the shitholes.

@Banzay27 Oops never mind. The Twelve Kingdoms was published on television on April 9, while Heroes of Might and Magic IV was first released in the USA on the 28th of March of the same year. The most probable explanation is that they were made form the same composer. The question now lies to whom we should accredit it to. Did Paul Romero sell it both 3D0 and the anime producers or did Kunihiko Ryo sell it to both? Pretty hard to determine...
I bought Heroes IV on release day, and it is still my most played game of all time. Shame about the second and third expansions being crap compared to the first one. I've been searching for this song separately, outside of the game, for two decades. I need to put this thing on a long, long loop and just listen to it all day long. I had found "Bayside Waltz" elsewhere, but this one has a few small differences. The remix used in the game is the one that is embedded in my subconscious for all time, and this is it!

@The40thThief Well... I mean it's really good... but after hearing all three songs, they're more like remixes than actually composing a new song. I would have at least thought that the composers would have altered the original song to some considerable degree instead of just changing the instruments used, which is easily done nowadays by quite a few number programs.
Cool... So he took a celtic melody. Then edited it to his liking. As a result we have a messed up Fuushun version. Doesn't sound like a lie at all. No. Not at all.
