  • New Year in China is the biggest holiday of the year. People stop work, business closes down and everyone goes home to be with family. The kids get new cloths, the blankets and linens get changed on the beds, windows are washed as are the curtains. The entire house has to be cleaned for the New Year. The Chinese believe that starting fresh in the new year will bring them luck in the New Year. This is a short video about Nanning just before Chinese New Year. BTW Happy New Year

Business closed for holiday is a tradition, not because they live outside Nanning. Business will be closed for at least for 3 days, some may as much as 2 weeks.

Yep, if you want a haircut, you must do it before the first day of Chinese new year. Then you can not cut your hair until 2nd day of 2nd month of Chinese lunar calendar. If you have your hair cut before that day, your uncle (mother's brother) may die of accident or illness. If you follow the rule and have your hair cut on 2nd Feb of Chinese lunar calendar, you will get waves of good luck the entire year. That day is known as Dragon Heads-raising Day.

Gweilo60- Nice haircut for only $2. btw, red has always been the color of China since ancient times, BCE. Yellow, of course, for the emperor only. Like your videos. Show us your wife sometimes, she seems to make you happy, which is great. Any kids with her? I love to watch things such as your videos about China, but glad my forebears left there to come to Hawaii over 150 years ago! Aloha from Hawaii.

Nanning did do much better than most provincial capital in china. by comparing to those cities i visited, i found nanning make advantages on weather, road courtesy, cleanliness, planting and people's manners. though it loses in all those old streets (not that safe to live). in all the factors i mention above, i credit Hangzhou the best.
