Not really. Some games like hitman here simply aren't as demanding as others hence a 60 fps is an achievable feat. But compare that to certain graphically intensive games I.e. last of us 2, Death Stranding, red dead 2 etc, 60 fps is not as easily achievable as it seems

Im actually suprised by the lack of difference between the Ps4 and Ps5 versions when both are running on Ps5. On the Ps4 version you can choose between quality mode and framerate mode, and there is also an option to unlock/lock framerate. If you use quality mode and have the framerate unlocked on the Ps4 while running it on the Ps5 it looks and runs 100% identical to the Ps5 version as far as I've been able to tell

Because when ray tracing is implemented right like for example - Global Illumination in Metro exodus, the normal implementation doesn't 'get so close'. It's night and day difference. Also, DLSS 2.0 is a pretty good solution for performance cost.
Problem iui s on consoles. No dlss and all we're getting g is reflections. Only one game has had rt shadows. Console gamers by and large are still too stupid when it comes to tech. Most think it's just about reflections, not understanding that it needs to be GI to really impress. Reflections add a bit to graphics but they are low on the list.
I imagine the trees were changed as part of a new wind system that also ties into the cloth simulation. Similar to how speed tree assets work in UE4. Rather than just having the trees animate randomly, having cloth and the trees flow in sync.

Let's be real, no one has the 'next generation' consoles. nVidia is reportedly going to re-release RTX 20 series cards so people have something to buy. Industry is disgusting at the moment.
Yup ...but it's also true that these games are not taking advantage of the hardware either. All we're seeing cross gen bs with small improvements. As usual devs are doing the least amount of effort possible to sell these games as ps5 and Series x "next gen" games. The marketing has convinced us that the systems are great, and they may be, but we ain't seeing it. People don't think and complain enough. Hitman 3, nobody has even noticed that the HDR is broken. Despite having H1 and H2 IMPORTED in 3, where those games have great looking HDR! All one would have to do is press a button to instantly see how washed out and grey 3 is currently. People praising the 60 fps on ps5/x. Guess what? H1/h2 were 1440p/60 fps locked. So is the ps5 only capable of 1800p with admittedly some nice improvements? Textures and reflections are improved but still, only medium shadows 1800p..
What’s also awesome is in China, if you’re wearing a cloth outfit in the rain, the cloth physics return to a rigid shape, it’s not perfect but it’s a pretty cool touch

@@Parthurnax52 The whole "tools" argument seems a bit iffy to me. Minimal "superiority" in negligible RES/FPS stats is silly here. I'm still very excited to see where this all goes.
So when you run a game at 240hz is it more "unlocked" than running at 120?😊 DF is almost always highlighting an actual generational frame-rate unlock, where a prior 30fps cap has been unlocked towards a new 60fps target between console tiers. So it's totally fair to call that an unlocking or cap removal. The same way we've asked developers on PC to remove the occasional 60fps cap for players to enjoy their 120hz~ displays. A cap at any frame-rate/refresh tier is still a cap, so unlocking it to [insert supported performance tier] is still an unlock. It's a similar concept to Dynamic Resolution Scaling having highest and lowest value ranges you can benchmark: we don't say it's no longer scaling dynamically if it's not scaling within a very particular range. Uncappping 30 to 60 between cross-gen console versions still qualifies as an unlock.
@@griffgames9538 It just doesn't make sense to use a the terms "unlock" or "uncap" when the game itself isn't. That's all. The vast majority of console games simply aren't uncapped, I'm not saying they should use the terms at 120 or 240. Also typically in PC gaming, it's not necessarily for 120 hz+ displays. A lot of PC gamers would rather run actually unlocked, with the game's frame rate not bound to their display's limitations.
@@VGDocs It's true. Personally I prefer it when they say something like, "on Series X the game now runs at a 60fps target, compared to the 30fps cap it had on Xbox One S" or similar. The goalposts moved to a defined new distance, not an unlimited new distance. But I suppose the lingo is understood by gamers who watch these tech comparisons, in any case.
So better shadow quality and several hundred lines of resolution higher than the PS5. Is this an example of the beginning signs of the Series X pulling ahead in the future? Seems to be.

also xbox one x doesn't have hdr like ps4 consoles do for this game and then ps4 pro being better than series s with higher shadows is also funny, just shows man these devs need to go back, even ps5 should be doing 4k or have the option, that's why i wouldn't use this game as a comparison of power

They use what ever platform offers the best performance on consoles. This like the first time they've used the Series X for a comparison. Every other other comparison in the last 3 months have been PS5
I feel like ps5 has room to grow, like with a patch, because if the series x in that garden scene drops into the low 50fps but ps5 stays at 60 locked, then there is something more they could do for it on far less demanding levels without frame rate drops because no drops in the worst level means the game as a whole could still produce more, don’t see why shadow quality is limited to medium, I’m fine with 1800p resolution though, still would prefer 4k but I won’t hold my breath, anything over 1440p I’m highly satisfied with, I’d just like higher level textures quality, shadows, and other things, gaming wise I can’t tell a huge huge difference between 1800p and 4k, like I know it’s there and I’d definitely enjoy 4k/60 more, but ultra quality settings is a far more desired look
Dude the PS5 is literally barely being utilized and it’s handicapped due to development constraints. People seriously aren’t understanding this... the PS5 really wasn’t built to run games from HDD code, it’s built for SSD and IO code... The Series X SHOULD BE absolutely kicking it’s ass because MS built BC tools into the console. Sony really didn’t for the PS5... All we’re currently seeing is what the base hardware boost is doing. When development actually goes next-gen, we’re gonna see some shit from PS5...

So (honestly, no fanboyism please), why is the difference so huge in Hitman 3 between Series X and PS5 ?? Because if IIRC, AC Valhalla, the new Dirt and some other big titles have been slightly better on PS5, although marketeed with Series X.
because devkits were released later for series x, and the code is more complex. The devs for the last games had more time and an easier time to optimize for ps5 so they were better. But as time passes and everyone gets familiar with both systems, Xbox will almost always outperform. IO just had a lot more time than say Ubisoft or Codemasters. A digital foundry employee explained on resetera that on those previously released games where the ps5 was slightly outperforming, the Xbox is doing much better now since the devs are familiar now. Why the gap is so huge here, is unclear.
Its not huge its how the vr mode works with ps4 and how games need to work on ps5. 2 different game builds. Playstations games dont scale so they literally make 2 whole applications.
I wouldn't say its huge here, but it not expected as the PS5 has robustly performed better than Series X. I can guarantee this isnt a devkit situation. It almost as if for some reason they left power and performance on the table for PS5
I was gonna wait to play the game untill the best settings breakdown, but after trying the game all on max at 1080p I found I dont need to. It runs sooo good on even mediocre hardware. My 3700x, 16GB 3200MHz CL14 and GTX 1660 Super plows through. Great job IO Interactive!

Why are we pushing for RayTracing that pretty much halves performance when implementations such as this in Hitman 3 get so close without the cost!
Because when ray tracing is implemented right like for example - Global Illumination in Metro exodus, the normal implementation doesn't 'get so close'. It's night and day difference. Also, DLSS 2.0 is a pretty good solution for performance cost.

Now that 120 fps titles might start to become more common on console, I wonder if DF will still continue calling 60 fps caps "uncapped" or "unlocked"
Yea, it's kind of funny that they refer to 60 FPS as "unlocked" when it's literally LOCKED to 60 lol
So when you run a game at 240hz is it more "unlocked" than running at 120?😊
DF is almost always highlighting an actual generational frame-rate unlock, where a prior 30fps cap has been unlocked towards a new 60fps target between console tiers.
Don’t be surprised, DF are only human, and they make a ton of mistakes just like anyone else. Yet some fans take their word as gospel!
Good video - @digitalfoundry, do you think PS5 can do 4K? Or maybe will be patched later?
Lots of patches are planned for the Hitman trilogy.
@@fuzzface8744 Is that a guess or inside info? Will it be 4K on PS5? :P
@@gkork6 The game has lots of issues and the devs have said patches are coming. They are going to add ray tracing in one of them.
No the PS5 is incapable of 4K just look at Demons Souls Remake or Miles Morales it’s obvious they can’t do 4K...
/S
@@spenny2cents Spiderman does 4K.
I would like to see an incorporation of game file sizes in these videos, it’s vital seeing we are working with limited space.
These analysis videos are killing my joy of gaming sometimes! They are exposing all texture issues, frame drops, etc., which are things I don't even notice when I'm playing. I have the Series S and the game looks fantastic on a 1080p display.
I understand how you feel 👍
For me it was the second week of learning Maya 😵
Gaming graphics is not about perfection as very few games are perfect. It is and always was about fun. As long as you are having fun that's all that matters. You also will never need raytracing to enjoy playing games.
took the words right out of my mouth! SERIES S IS AMAZING WITH THIS GAME AND SO MANY OTHER GAMES
I'm thinking of getting a Series S, and i just wanna know, does it run at 60fps on there? It's kind of a deal breaker for me
@@LFC_Fan23 Alot of games don't, but this one(Hitman 3) does. 12:15 is where the infographic of what all consoles run at starts becoming visible, with all consoles visible at 12:25. The Series S is 1080p 60.
Ahh now it makes more sense why it’s 1800p at 60fps on PS5. The game is still basically running in a BC mode on next-gen consoles but they beefed it up a bit. That’s explains the difference between the PS5 and Series X. Series X has better BC tools. Game still looks beautiful, though. Might have to pick it up when I have time...
If that's true than this is a bullshit release and I'm pissed off for thinking I'd be getting something that would actually take advantage of the console I just paid $500 for
True 4K Ultra on Series X!!!!
No one cares. TrUe 4K oN xBoX, PS5 hAs A StaBle 60 FpS whEn XbOx has 41 FpS

@@pauperslament3467 you talking $500 when it cost $1000 to make a pc with same specs 🤡
@@Jwizzle45 pc may cost more but can’t hate on it. Pc is way better
I know this game is the first big example but it really says something that DF prefers testing in the Xbox platform 👌🏼 love how far MS has come since 2013
They use what ever platform offers the best performance on consoles.
When development actually goes next-gen, we’re gonna see some shit from PS5...
always love your content John, top notch!
At last, Series X showing its extra power over PS5.
Native 4K cost SX some performance. Just like it used to XB1X
Not true. How could SX jump about 35% and PS5 not jump at all?? Is the PS5 tapped out already? Nope. This developer gimped the PS5 version for some reason.
@@DualPurpose Because the PS5 was already using the same tools as PS4. Which devs are already very accustomed too.
Xbox seres x is more powerful than PlayStation5 . And everyone know that . So this game show that. And from now on every other big AAA title are going to show the gap.
Until the patches come in. These Hitman games need a lot of patches.
Woah, look at that shiny chrome dome!
No Ray Tracing btw. Game looks pretty impressive without but honestly i thought it would have RT. It will get an RT Update at some Point later 2021.
But it does have good SSR
@@goddess_hylia_ Yeah it looks pretty insane. No Question. But i just find it very interesting that this Game looks like it has RT when in Fact it doesnt. Already saw some ppl who think it has RT.
In some ways the more shocking part is how good hitman II looked on the older console, the framerate notwithstanding.
Omg, this game looks Knucking Futz on my XSX and LG OLED 🎮👀🤯😭💯
the noise on these reflection just makes everything look wet, but still an improvement overall
Watching this video made me buy Hitman 3!
Congrats for being gullible to simple marketing
@@spenny2cents thank you
The framerate cap has been lifted on One X at the expense of graphical fidelity which is rather minimal. Still looks fantastic and great to see at 60fps finally on One X.
It looks amazing on the series x
9:02 lol except the one on the right LOOKS better. it does a better job of simulating BLURRY reflections, which are harder to render than simple crapfest mirror reflections.
Ps5 wins 7 xbsx wins 1 let’s the games begin and this wasn’t a massive win because the ps5 could of done full 4K the FPS was 100% perfect at 1800p
I wouldn't say its huge here, but it not expected as the PS5 has robustly performed better than Series X. I can guarantee this isnt a devkit situation. It almost as if for some reason they left power and performance on the table for PS5
@@flubber8 you don't think a 44% increase in resolution + higher settings is huge? It's a massive delta
Still hard to believe this isn't native 4k on ps5 considering its not really an insanely heavy game to run
@Sam P hahahahahaha
That's not mediocre hardware lmao
@@Fastwalker27 Seeing all these 3080s and 5900x people have it sure feels that way😂
Does liking Hitman 1's XB1/PS4 framerate test count as liking your own video?
Xbox series x. The most powerful console of the new Gen. Showing its graphical prowess. I am still surprised that although xbox series X took the win. DF forgot to mention VRR setting that the Xbox has that the Playstation doesn't have wich makes fps run much better on xbox in mendoza stage. But a win is a win and xbox took it.
With more improvements to come.
It’s only one game so far lol

Lol and this game doesn’t make sense how Ps4 running better than the Xbox one x 🤦🏽♂️
