Been playing this a lot, awesome game! Click down the left stick to see where the opponent moving options! Helps a TON, also head up. The shaking pieces are the one moving next. This game is fairly deep, I like the blade builds! This means you can upgrade and one hit melee sometime with a stun if you get the upgrade card!
Oh snap! Ive been playing this on PC for a while and i didnt know it was coming to switch and getting a physical! I really like the "you and your enemy" power up system because it keeps the balance from being too overpowered on either side. Also protip: be careful who youre shooting at! If you kill a piece that has another piece behind it with a movement option towards you it will bypass your shields and kill you on the spot
@@voodooguitarz let's say on your board you're about to shoot a pawn that has a rook behind it. If you kill the pawn, the rook now has a clear path to checkmate you even if you have full shields. Same thing goes for bishops and especially queens. It's easy to overlook and I've lost a handful games that way
To bad I can't equip my King with a shotgun otherwise, I would be a chess champion in no time.

I love a bit of strategy. Recently finished Disgaea story mode. Even though I'm not a fan of chess myself, it looks like an entertaining game, well paced too.

@@Whocareslol420 I know that feeling, kind of an addiction.
Honestly never heard of it until Glen mentioned it in a the upcoming games video series but I’m super hyped for it tbh ❤ so I’m glad you guys ended up reviewing this 🙌
As for the over saturation of roguelites we have, playing as a chess king with a shotguns sounds very innovative. I'll add this to my wishlist for sure
Seen this game a while back played in the indie community. So excited its coming to the Switch! What a delightful mix of ideas. Love chess, enjoy rogulikes gonna be a grab down the line for me.
I can't believe something like this didn't already exist, seems like such a great and simple idea, can't wait to give it a try. I wonder if it'd actually help me not be awful at real chess as well lol 😅
This looks so cool, I've had it in my wishlist since you mentioned it in a previous video, and i'm just waiting until I have the available funds to ull the trigger on it. Thanks for the review... and thank you to the developer for sponsoring you, I guess. 😅
if you didnt cover great games and make such convincing comments early on I'd finish more of your videos. Just gotta go download it now. Thanks for the look!
I’m sad there is no meta progress.. it’s pretty much the only thing that can get me to buy a roguelike/light as I want to get stronger and have the game get easier the more I play..
I get that feeling, which is why I usually prefer Roguelites over Roguelikes. Maybe think about it like this: You don't get any stat increases, but you get another form of progression after each run: knowledge and skill.
@@matti_xiii yesh I know.. but i’m really not a fan of difficulty in games, that’s why I mostly play jrpgs so I can just grind away the difficulty if need be 😝 even roguelites are often too difficult for me to enjoy them. I wouldn’t mind them if you could, after playing dozens of hours, unlock skills that makes it a lot easier to finish the game. Never really found any game like that yet and reviews rarely talk in depth about the unlocks from meta progress so it’s hard to know..
I never liked these kinds of games until Vampire Survivors came out. Binding of Isaac almost got me, but I didn't like the art style or the creator's sophomoric sense of humor and I don't think I ever got very good at it lol but games like Vampire Survivors and Balatro have become my new obsession, this looks right up my alley.
Great idea for a mashup. Gotta be honest, playing chess makes me want to wield a shotgun sometimes. Just kidding YT. Don’t send the police to check me out. 😅
Watching the game play, I'm surprised how they changed things to make it work on console. Working with a mouse to aim is more my style, though, so I'll keep playing on PC
@@hands_of_stone Brotato is awesome. Very satisfying. Army of Ruin and Void Scrappers if you love Vampire Survivors. Dicey Dungeons is another favorite of mine and of course Hades.
Of course.... The black king... Can you imagine if they chose the white king shooting all the black pieces? Yeah, it's so obvious. If you could swap then maybe I'd buy it, but its obvious IYKYK

I have been playing this on Steam for quite a while. Loads of fun.
Me too
Looks like a fun game. Probably wouldn’t have given it a second look without these videos
I’ve played chess my whole life. This game definitely puts a fun spin on one of my favorite board games.

It's a great achivement to give the most classic game a Twist that actually works. Really cool!
Looks pretty interesting and fun. I love games that put a spin on "traditional" games. So many indie developers are great thinking outside the box

@@nubocerbo ah right, yeah that makes sense and defo an important thing to keep in mind!
I bought this at lunch and I’m having a blast with it. Tough as nails though
At least 2 games i saw this week have "chess combat" mechanic in them. Almost as if "universe" decided: "This is the time for chess combat!!"
what are the others?
@@kjhansonkjhanson6643 There is a "chess Boss battle" in 9 years of shadow metroidvania game.
There is also a game on Steam called Chessplosion, which is a chess-themed version of Bomberman.
Great to see this gem come to Switch. Now just to get Pawnbarian ported over and we’ll have the two best chess roguelites around on here.
Makes me think of a Devolver Digital game… definitely on my radar… unless… we’ll, maybe 😉

Certainly a neat premise. I dig the visual style too. Lovely review as usual gents, will definitely pop this on the wish list!
It would be really funny if I this was the only form of Chess i ever learned how to play
I love chess, shooting, rogue-likes, tactics games, pixel art, and low prices... looks like we found a winner.

What a great time to be a gamer. I'm cycling through ShotgunKing, Blasphemous 2 and Bomb Rush Cyber Funk lately. Just incredible games!

Parents: why don’t you go work on your chess
Me: alright then 😏
Thank you so much for this recommendation I am having a blast on my day off. You guys are the best. I would not have learned about this game otherwise
This game looks absolutely amazing, it went on my wishlist *immediately*
Shotguns and Chess... two of my favourite things.
I was hoping you would cover this I just saw it last night!
I was in chess club back in elementary, and now with my love of roguelites... this looks perfect! Wishlists immediately
Hope you both had a great holiday 🎉🎉
Honestly, I hadn't paid this one much notice since I thought it was just chess.

Finally!
A version of chess I have a chance of beating my Mum at...
😂
This is a great pick up and play game. Was great on pc and will get it on switch, perfrct for when you have a spare 20 min
looks amazing, and glad they are doing a physical
I dont understand why it's 138 mb to download though 😭 that's about as much or more than cod or gta lol
Game so cool can't wait to try it
Really nice twist on a checkers
I love chess, was actually on the Chess Team back in HS. What a fun take on an absolute classic.
How to reinvent chess: give them a freaking shotgun to shoot you in the freaking face! Love it :)
seen this game a few times and looks interesting might pick it up great vid lads

Positive and optimistic comment !!
Love the idea, we need more games bases on chest
I have this on PC, got it in a bundle and it went straight to my backlog. I think I might need to try this one out.
Ahhhh my perfect new Sunday evening pub game 😍
Wow this looks great, love the concept!

This might kill my brain lol.
It looks very tricky but very fun!

Idk what a roguelike is but I am gonna play some before the physical copy comes out because I must play this game.
Super interested in trying this out
I love Chess and I love shotguns! This seems like a win/win for me!
Isn't pickup! Roguelike chess with a shotgun. What more can you love about a game?!

I’d like to see Magnus Carlson play this
Surprised this game can run on the Switch.

Huh so a different take on chess. Looks fun!

Can I use the King’s Gambit opening? 😂
I love chess. I'm grabbing this one now . This looks amazing. Also is there a multiplayer mode?
Sold.
Is that physical a retail release or a limited special kinda release because I do wanna pick this one up

Nifty.
Does this game teach you to how to play? It looks like a lot of fun, but i’ve never played chess cus my grandfather was too strict about this
