Just a video on how to make patterns with the TD-3
How to change Key
How to Switch Midi Mode
I've owned a TB-303, but didn't have it for long and have long since forgotten how to program it. I now have two TD-3's and this is by far the best visual tutorial I've seen of how to program a TB-303/TD-3 I've seen on RUclips.
@@markgoodwin763 happy to support good content!
@@JayKaufman Cheers Buddy
I agree, I had an original 303 as well and this is the way I remember programming, Good job Mark!
Without this dude it would be curtains and lights off.
I've followed you and made a cracking track today.
We want more.
Best director out there
🎉🎉🎉🎉keep em coming
I learned more about my device in 8 something minutes than the days I've been fiddling with it. Thank you very much! 👍🏽😁
Holy shit, you teach exactly how i need to learn. Thank you from the bottom of me loins to the top of me third eye
Thanks that means a lot.
LOL.....I'm a guitarist but I also found it very interesting
The funny thing about the 303 is that the first time you get your hands on it you will absolutely hate programming it.
But once you did it a few times you'll notice it's actually not complicated at all - it kinda makes sense.
You just have to get used to it and seperate the notes and the rythm in your head and it will quickly start to make sense.
It's a pretty easy to use machine which can lead to insanely good results really quick!
Yeah its not so bad
I enjoy programming it now and feel like I have accomplished something
If you don't press step it's automatically set to 16 steps. Just for those new :D
True that
I've watched a few tutorials on this machine, and this is by far the most straightforward of them. Cheers.
exactly, some tutorial videos get too into showing off instead of teaching
This is the tutorial I was waiting for! Very clear and concise man, much appreciated.
So much better then the tutorial with like 400k views lol
I also was waiting for this im a bit late but very simply put
Another great video like how to program pattern in minutes. You made perfectly clear how to change keys in play mode on this video. What would I do without these videos. The manuals look like something someone drew with a pencil.
Ha ha drawn with a pencil LOLS
Legend, i saw someone changing the pitch live and couldn’t work out how to do it for ages.
Glad it should you the way
This is excellent! Thank you so much. I've been avoiding trying to program my TD-3 as I just haven't been able to find resources to figure it out how to do so, at least something I can follow. I stumbled on your video this morning, and felt like I struck gold. I think this will get me on my way. Thanks again.
Excellent video! Hidden gem is pushing start/stop and back w/ write/next to change midi. No more needing to hook up the app! Blessings to you!
if you`d have read the manual you`d have known that
@@glyn5385 And, if I point the crystals at the phasers, I'll get off on impulse power.
It's already been said but I'll say it again, excellent job making this super simple! Whenever I've heard people talk about the "old school" way of creating a pattern, it sounded incredibly painful. This actually seems easier than the TB-03 style even if it issn't. Saving this to my folder of RUclips music production related videos for sure! I appreciate it!

This was a actually very straight forward and helpful. I cant wait to get my td-3yellow in the mail
I used to make patterns with re-birth and we had a nice LED screen to see what step you were on. Since today I have my TB3 and I also have forgotten how to make patterns - however I could just jump right into the TD6 :) thanks for the great tutorial.
Omg thank you so much. Just got one and you explained it the best I've seen. Many blessings to you my friend. Much appreciated
You are so welcome
I bought this to accompany my TD-03 and assumed the midi signal would automatically be accepted from my Quad Thru - I was wrong so this has helped!!! :D
I wanted a 303 clone for ages for my collection and I just got a TD3. Thanks for the video, it's very concise and easy to follow. I'll work out the intricacies of it later, cheers
Thank you for the key pattern changing tip, I didn't know we can do it like that just to change the tune, perfect !
Thanks for this, didn't understand how to use the transpose or accent/slides and your video showcases it perfectly.
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for demonstrating this so clearly !
I'm dem-oing one. So thanks for this as my light doesn't flash at all!
AMAZING! Thank you. You are a good teacher.
Change key function is amazing, didn't know that little sneaky one
If you check my track mode explanation. You can program it the change key automatically in a multiple pattern sequence
Just got mine today, hooked it up to a couple of volcas and my microkorgS and run it all through an rc202.
Thanks very much for sharing buddy, my yellow td3 just arrived :D
I'm so jealous I want a yellow one :(
Just started watching your videos and subscribed I’m going to go get one of these units now😊
Your a fantastic communicator. Thank you for this page!
aaa thanks buddy
Perfect visual explanation. Very concise. Thank you
The td3 sounds great! I’m still waiting for mine to arrive ! Great stuff thanks 🙏🏽
I have it ordered for 3 monts now and still nothing. Should come in next weeks. hopefully
Thanks for a great tutorial nice and slow unlike some that whizz a cursor around a screen that's way too fast to follow 😋
Thank you for this clear tutorial!
Very useful. Clearly explained. Thank you.! !
You are welcome!
Btw, you can also sync with a drum machine using a 3,5mm jack cable, through the ”sync in” jack (provided, your drum machine has this option for clock-out)
When selecting sync mode, you also need to set the clock rate at the same rate as your drum machine.
Or on another clockrate to play with diff timings....
Really helpful for a beginner like me.
Just learned how to program a beat for the TD-3 while I'm waiting for the RD-8 and TD-3 I ordered from Sweetwater 😊
You think that hard to program, I'm still learning how to program my Krog Wavestation EX synthenzier 🎹
Subscribed!
Very Good and Clear Tutorial!!!
This was an EXCELLENT tutorial
Excellent tutorial ! Thanks a lot .. you compensate the lack of decent manual
Great explanation. TKS
Bruh, thank you!!!! Love how you jus went right into it! Helluva video!
Straight in no kissing
Thanks for this video! :)
Just came across your videos sham, about to buy one of these bad boys and this js exactly what I needed. Go raibh míle Síle!
Hey, thanks man, this helped so much!
I had the TB-03 and could never get my head round this way of writing sequences and flogged it. I just got one of these today, I've ordered one and cancelled the order twice before because I knew I'd have to learn it, third times a charm I guess!.
I've heard the the traditional way is supposed to better, everybody needs a 303 right?
I've spent 3 hours going through vids and this was the one that did it, thanks again, the least I can do is like and subscribe.
Cool video. Thank you very much
this was really helpful.
Very nice vid man!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so so much! It honestly seems possible
Amazing sound engineering programming..
Thanks so much for this video sir. Taught me everything i needed to know and was clear and concise. You should whack a PayPal on here because I really feel like I owe you a beer ! Peace
If you don’t want a note on every step how do you do that
Very cool. Nice tutorial. Thanks 😊
Thanks so much for this!
This was very informative thank you 😊
Would have been cool to see the drum machine when you switched to midi but otherwise great video, thanks!
The Best tutorial!!! Muy bien!! Gracias
Your welcome
Thanks for the tut! Very useful 👍
This is a great vid man, fair play
Thanks Brophy , it needed to be done had a hard time figuring it out so had to make a video to remind myself.
@@303Guy deadly, yeah you’ve laid it out really well here, was thinking of getting one and this was the one of the first demos I can across for it
@@michaelbrophy1212 I’m selling one right now actually
@@303Guy oh cool! I may take you up on that if you still have it in a couple of months
Thanks , the best tutorial I have seen on this.
Are ya a Dub.?
Thx, great tutorial👌🏽
Excellent tutorial!
Great explanation video. Can you edit the pattern notes afterwards?
I do believe so, When I was adding the accents by pressing the write/next key you can also change the note if you wish.
I rarely make music anymore but i still want this lol. ill probably order one this week.
Can you use this as a controller to the ABL3 VST acid machine ? As in assign the knobs ? Great video !
Nice video for getting into it!!!! Thank you :)
Great tutorial. You forgot to add the tie and rest functions, these are also useful.
Thank you
I cover some of these in my other video ruclips.net/video/K603ZLL4a00/видео.html
Great vid mate! I'm wonder if the key change of patterns is changeable over a external midi keyboard?
Great tutorial!
😮❤I watch in slow speed too it’s quite weird
I must try this
very good-very helpful - thanks
Very Great explaning!!!
Cheers mate nice and clear help (I needed it) any help on hooking it up with DAWs and over midi or USB would be good
Of course check my other vid - ruclips.net/video/gqQLQpRljvM/видео.html
Thanks for a cool video , how do you save a pattern? Can’t see in the manual
Once you change the pattern it should just save if you add all the steps.
@@303Guy thanks loads, I got there in the end :)
So helpful thank you so much!!
You're so welcome!
Nice tutorial lad. Right now I'm trying to figure out if I can change key of the pattern using an external sequencer instead of by pressing the buttons on the TD3
Hmmm possibly don’t know how to do that my self
A Roland JDXi works VERY well with the TD3. I have them. You can add a digital external clock by using a jdxi, simply midi the two, sync the tempo so the jdxi controls it. Boom.
DJ Statyk very interesting my dude
You added in a bit that’s not needed. Once you clear the pattern, you go into time mode and tap the number of steps, then pitch mode for your notes etc
If I want to make a pattern with 16 steps, but only use two or three notes in it - how do you make the rest of the notes blank?
you hit time mode and press the accent for blank steps... but you have probably figured it out?
@@patcraze Thanks for that. No, I hadn't gotten around to it yet. I had been just using the SynthTribe app to do it.
thank you for the inciteful and clear tutorial. I had now question which I'm hoping you or somebody reading the comments can. I use a cirklon to sequence a bunch of my hardware gear including the td-3 - I pre make my patterns on the td3 but is there a way I can trigger those patterns (including all its slides/accents and different time signatures) on the td3 from the cirklon. I'm only able to pregame in any riffs on the cirklon direct if it is in Midi mode. it won't play the pre programmed notes I've put in. The original Roland 303 was able to override this and play any patterns made before hand. Providing there were no pattern notes inputted in the cirklon sequencer. I was hoping the same would apply buy having no joy here.. hoping someone can assist..??
Based on the information in the provided texts, it is not clear whether the TD-3 can be triggered to play pre-programmed patterns from an external sequencer like the Cirklon. However, it is mentioned in that patterns can be selected and played in order by pressing and holding a PATTERN switch and then pressing another one at the same time. It is also mentioned that tracks can be created by adding together multiple patterns.
There are some parameters midi can change
Note Off
Note On
All Notes Off
Pitch Bend
Timing Clock
Start
Continue
Stop
It may be worth exploring the TD-3's MIDI implementation to see if there are any additional features or settings that could allow for triggering pre-programmed patterns from an external sequencer.

Well done bro!
Great tutorial. Can anyone help with this problem… I cleared down the pattern, no problems, and I put in 16 steps no problem, But then I press something and now for some reason my pattern only lets me enter 15 steps. I’ve tried again and again to put in 16 steps, But after 15 steps it flips back to normal mode and I can’t enter that 16th step
Very straightforward. What drum machine are you using?
Tr8
What's a good drum machine to pair with this machine?
Sure 16 steps is default?
Hi, nice vid, thank you for it. I'm trying to sync my TD3 with Maschine, do you know how i can do that please ?
6.20 we're having a party
Hi mate, just subscribed. can you do a quick tutorial syncing the TD-3 & the RD-8 and sync them both up in cubase 10....I'm really thick...LOL
Hi Mark, this is terrific. Thanks for the video. Apologies if this is all obvious or irrelevant, but can the length of each note and the spacing between each note be defined? So let's take a 6 note bassline with notes 1 and 4 lasting longer than the others and say a long gap between notes 2 and 3. Is that something the TD-3 can do?
Check out my video on how you can add rests and Half- Notes = ruclips.net/video/K603ZLL4a00/видео.html
HI great video, can i use a pattern from an usb for example from fl studio and play it on the synth without a computer connected?
They only method I know of transfer patterns into the 303 is using the synth tool
Nice job man
Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial!
Would you recommend this sequencer for a beginner?
It's a good beginner analog synth.
A korg Volca bass would be a better beginner sequencer .
You’ve a lovely voice
ahh hear jaysus tanks very much
🫠😘
Thanks but why tap in 16 notes twice? 👍🏽
Well it's not completely necessary you can combine multiple functions. I just wanted to break it down for people to easier understand it with overloading them.
Can you change one note in the pattern after you made the pattern? Or do you have to clear it always and start from scratch again?
Find the note in pitch mode then change it
Thanks for this- you’re clearly au fait with the front panel. What’s your opinion of the sequencer in the Synth Tool app? Easier, or just different? Btw, I’m currently in the ‘not sure I should have gone for this’ stage of td3 ownership as I already have two Craves and they’re just flat out bassier imho, but I’:m sure I’ll find a use for it!
@@maringpdx you can. Any note above the velocity threshold you've defined in the SynthTool will accent. Any note overlapping with the next will slide. They updated the firmware and now it slides properly.
You have that hooked through MIDI straight to your drum machine or do you have a controller? If there is no controller, are you using the MIDI out of TD-3 to MIDI in of the drum machine or is it the other way around?
nice one
will this work when its on saw tooth?
I assume so
Can you use this as a controller to the audiorealism ABL3 ? As in assign the knobs ? Great video ! Nearly buying one !
Unfortunately not, but you can manually copy patterns from abl
@@303Guy Thanks Mark - nice one ! buying today - also ordered a 9v ripcord to usb power it - whilst working in my TAXI ! FUN !
Brilliant
bought a used one would not play a sequence downloaded the latest software and did a global reset now working
use the behringer synth tool v2.3.5 web site www.behringer.com
Yeah always the best option if things aren’t working
